They will cancel with NO REFUND

Flew to Corfu last Friday and had a rental car booked to pick up at 9pm, knew the rental company closed at 10pm but we were due to land at 8pm so should not have been a problem. Because of problems at Gatwick we were delayed and landed at 10.30pm. Rental pickup was shut. Accepted we were late so went to pick it up at 8am the following morning when they opened to then be told that because we had not picked it up within 2 hours of the pickup time the booking was cancelled with no refund. Firstly I argued that we could not pick it up within 2 hours because they shut at 10pm so they were only open for 1 hour after the pickup up time, I also tried their 24 hour helpline, no answer !!! I was there when they opened so was there so I was there within 2 hours of their opening time. Also I had booked and paid for the car for the whole week so it should have been available all week. I was then told it had be rented out again so not available. So they took my money for the week and then charged someone else for the same vehicle for the same week. SO. If you are delayed for more than 2 hours they will cancel your booking with no refund. Absolute CON. WILL NEVER USE AGAIN OR RECOMMEND

Booked a car through Auto Europe for…

Booked a car through Auto Europe for collection at Faro. Our flight was cancelled, so we arrived 24 hours late.

We tried to call the number in the confirmation email, which put us through to Hertz (the supplier), around a dozen times. No one answered and our email went unanswered. AutoEurope also didn't have a number we could contact.

At the desk, Hertz told us the reservation had been cancelled and that we would need to make a new booking. They also confirmed they had received no money from Auto Europe for it.

Auto Europe has declined to refund us and has kept the full amount, despite the supplier never being paid and us never receiving a car. Would not book through them again.

SCAM DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM

***DO NOT BOOK WITH AUTO EUROPE - THEY ARE A MASSIVE SCAM - THEY CHARGED ME TWICE CANCELLED MY BOOKING AND REFUSE TO ANSWER THE PHONE OR EMAILS****

I tried to book through Auto Europe for a car with Drivalia in Italy.

They sent me an email with a voucher confirmation, however 5 minutes later I recevied an email to say the voucher was cancelled and the booking was no longer valid. I decided to try and book the car again through auto europe, the same process happened again.

I since went directly onto the drivalia website and managed to book directly since auto europe kept cancelling my attempts to book but still charged me.

They are a scam, I strongly advise to not book with them it is almost impossible to speak with them directly and they just ignore any attempts to reach them.

Hired a car on terminal an Lanzarote Airport, searched the whole airport for the Budget desk and it didn’t exist.
The desk was off site and a mini bus was required.
Lost 2 hours in blazing sun with luggage.
Auto Europe the refused to accept the desk was off site.
Incredible gaslighting.

Avoid this company

Avoid this company! They take your money but don’t give you a car!

I booked a car at Palermo airport. I arrived an hour after the time I’d booked - not surprising surely, airplanes can be delayed. I was told I only had 30 minutes from the booked time, there was no car for me and my payment was forfeited!!! No one to complain to and no complaint can be made online till the phantom booking has ended!!!
Astonishing, unethical and counterproductive business practices. It’s theft in my eyes - taking the money but not offering the service or a refund through a contract term that isn’t made clear and doesn’t make sense anyway.
I would never use them again and I hope they cannot continue to be so unethical.

Car cancelled - no refund - and no help

If you have made it here before you book with Auto Europe, pat yourself on the back because you have just prevented yourself losing either money, or the car you booked. Let me explain. I have used Auto Europe recently and I would advise you to avoid at all costs, and use one of the more established recognised providers who have cars themselves. Auto Europe are a booking agent and when we got what looked like a great deal, it turned into a nightmare when we landed in Italy in August. Auto Europe basically use local non reputable car hire providers who low ball the price so they can get you at the desk for additional charges. In our case, firstly there was no clear way to the rental depot area. Eventually it turned out there was a significant walk outside the terminal to that area. When we arrived there was large queue to our local provider. Everyone seemed to be having hassle or delays. Over an hour wait in queue they tried to foist extras on us and then they just cancelled the car in our face using the excuse of over 2hrs from booking time which was caused by their own delays. My only resource was to seek help from Auto Europe. The we realised there is no easy find customer service number after endless searching. We had to be dismissed from the desk. We tried the internet’s for an hour looking for some number that worked. Eventually we got through to someone who couldn’t do anything about the cancellation. In addition to really rub mud in our face, he committed to only partial refund. €100 would be held back by the very company that cancelled our car! In addition, it is over a month now and I have received no money back from Auto Europe. The advise form that phone agent to use an online claim system has resulted in endless back and forth emails here they evidently don’t want to help at all. I will have to take this legal to get any money back so the nightmare continues but I would exhort anyone considering Auto Europe to stay well away. They have no care for customers. They are just set up for the money intake and then you are on your own. We had to go to much extra expense by using another rental in Pisa that cost us hundreds more on the day.

Took the money but no car

Took the money but no car. AutoEurope will not give you your car if you are 2 hrs late. It's in the small print. Or in our case, 30 minutes! Our flight was delayed, AutoEurope cancelled the car, leaving us stranded at the airport. No refund. No way to contact them - no-one answers the phone and our emails were answered 5 days later.

Extremely rude customer service and no practical help

On 22 August 2026, we were due to collect a rental car at Heraklion Airport. Unfortunately, the person who made the booking had forgotten his driving licence at home.

A second driver was included in the booking and had a valid driving licence. However, Auto Europe would not allow the rental company to hand over the car to the second driver. If this is their policy, then we have to accept that, even though it left us in a very difficult situation.

What was completely unacceptable was the way Auto Europe's customer service handled the matter. When we contacted them for assistance, the employee was rude, dismissive and unwilling to help. The employee then ended the call by hanging up on us. The conversation was recorded and documents exactly how we were treated.

We understand that rules and booking conditions must be followed, but there is no excuse for treating customers disrespectfully - especially when they are stranded abroad and contacting customer service for help.

Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Auto Europe. Their inflexible handling of the booking was disappointing, but the rude and unprofessional customer service was far worse.

If there was a 0 star rating I’d give…

If there was a 0 star rating I’d give that. Booked my hire car through auto Europe to get it with ecovia. The flight was slightly delayed then the 2 people in the queue in front of me took an hour to sort out their hire cars. By the time I got to the desk and the gentleman was looking through my booking, autoeurope had pulled the reservation as a no show so lost my rental and money. There is no way of contacting them via email or phone to rectify this (call me cynical but don’t think this is a mistake). Ecovia were not exactly helpful so would recommend neither company, never experienced such shambolic customer service in my life and not the best way to start a holiday

Check your Credit Cards

What went wrong? When I arrived at the Car hire site in Palma De Mallorca Airport - Drivialia, the car hire company, did not accept my Credit card for the security deposit, as it was not associated with a traditional high street bank, but my card was an MBNA card, which is part of Lloyd's (You try and argue). This meant that I couldn't collect the pre paid car and instantly lost the £92.66 I paid to Auto Europe, which meant I needed to hire another car exclusively from Driviala, for which I did at the tidy sum of £150.21 (transferred to sterling).

How can this company improve (I am being honest and factual)? - This restriction should be made clearer and not directed to read the biblical sized T's&C's, that this little grey area is not in. I realise that Auto Europe is a business that is there to make money, but they are also in the "make people happy business," and judging by their 3.5 star Trustpilot review rating, I feel they are not fulfilling that part of their core business values.

I'm not looking for compensation, as I'm quite confident silence will be the next thing I hear after all my attempts at communication, but I am looking for other people to read this and just be aware that no matter how "up in the Google racks" Auto Europe come, please zoom out and cover the landscape of your deal.

Terrible experience, no car and no refund

I genuinely feel scammed by Auto Europe.

I paid $500 for a Europcar rental and correctly selected Denmark as my country of residence when booking. Their website accepted it, showed no warning or error, took my money and confirmed the reservation.

At pickup, the car rental refused to give me the car because Danish residents were apparently not eligible for the rate Auto Europe sold me.

After waiting around 40 minutes to speak with Auto Europe, I was simply told: no car and no refund because I booked through their American website.

How can you knowingly accept Denmark as a country of residence, take $500, confirm the booking, and then blame the customer when the rental cannot be provided?

Absolutely unacceptable. I have filed a formal complaint and will update this review depending on whether they return my money.

Terrible communication lines!

OMG - we leave in just over 24 hours, there’s errors with my booking and I can’t get hold of anyone!!!!! Help needed urgently!! I’ve emailed but only through the reservation sent to my email (which doesn’t correspond with my log in email, so it’s not showing as a current booking!) please can someone help me urgently! I don’t know how the hell to get a hold of someone in this company, I have emailed so many times. This is ridiculous

DO NOT use AutoEurope

DO NOT use AutoEurope
I booked a car to pick up from Florence airport and return to Pisa. The booking was accepted and I paid AutoEurope in full, upfront. When I went to collect the car, 2 weeks later, I was told I could not return the car to Pisa as the office there had been closed for 2 months, I would have to return the car back to Florence. Due to my travel itinerary I could not accept this. There was no way to contact AutoEurope about this, and no way to request a refund. My only option was to ask my credit card company to perform a chargeback, which they did. No comms from AutoEurope, no apology. Nothing. Truly shocking.

We were left without a hire car!

The pick up from the airport was late which took us over the 1 hour time allocated to collect the hire car. When we eventually arrived at the hire car place (Drivalia) the man said 'I am really sorry but as you are over an hour we have given your car to someone else!' and we never received our hire car! I explained that the reason we were late was because Drivalia didn't have enough shuttle buses for the amount of people waiting and we were late (over 1 hour) because of this. Drivalia said that there was nothing they could do as they didn't make the booking. They told me to contact AutoEurope (who we booked through) and they said it was Drivalia's fault and they put the phone down on me.

The communication is appalling

The communication is appalling. They cancelled the car hire because they didn’t have the car in stock but said it would take 5/10 working days for the refund! Don’t advertise if not in stock. They then emailed to say they didn’t have the have a car available but it was an hours drive from original pick up. Tried to cancel but notes not kept updated by customer service staff it was very frustrating and stressful

Horrible company - no way to contact them

Horrible company. Impossible to contact them even through the booking confirmation itself. No contact phone numbers (all deactivated) or answers were received via email. The car we rented through their website was different than what was shown later in the confirmation and it was not possible to contact them at all. An absolutely horrible company.
