Impossible to reach live customer…

Impossible to reach live customer support for reservation changes.

I have been an enthusiastic user and promoter of Auto Europe for over 15 years, but their customer support process has recently changed, making it difficult to manage my reservation. I needed to change the pickup date by 24 hours because of an unexpected weather delay in Chicago. The Auto Europe website instructed me to contact the Avis directly. However, when I called Avis, they said that any modifications must be made through Auto Europe since they are the booking broker.

When I tried to contact Auto Europe to resolve this loop, there was no phone number to be able to speak with a live person. The only option they offered was to email them, which I did, but I have not yet received a response. I ended up booking directly with Avis, at a slightly better price.

Unfortunately we have lost $1500 due to the inability to contact someone at Auto Europe.

Due to no live phone support (nor email support) and the inability to process a simple reservation date change, it's unlikely I will Auto Europe again. Working directly with the car rental company would have better served me.

No Live human beings to fix a problem in the USA

I wanted to add insurance coverage on my rental. There is NO LIVE HUMAN BEING to talk to in August 2026. My only option is to cancel my reservation a $79 cost and rebook at a higher rate. I sent an email and it took over a week for someone from portugal to respond. I've used them twice in the past with good results. Awful not to have a live agent that can talk to you or answer an email or chat to simply add insurance.

Car was great but car trouble was a nightmare

While using our leased car from Auto Europe we had car problems that were covered by the insurance that is included with the lease. However, Eurodrive and Auto Europe who told us they would cover the expenses we incurred because of their policies of only using a rental car company which was not near us, will not respond to our repeated attempts. We incurred over $1800 in expenses.

AutoEurope & Europcar

AutoEurope & Europcar — Venice Airport
This review recounts my poor experience with AutoEurope and Europcar involving a 34-day vehicle rental from Venice Airport beginning May 12, 2026. Between the two vendors, I ultimately paid €5,558 for a standard vehicle rental—nearly double the market rate.
On February 20, I booked a Citroën C3 through AutoEurope for 34 days, paying $1,472.92 (€1,254.40) with Full Coverage, including excess-damage protection. Upon arrival in Venice, I discovered that I had inadvertently reserved an EV. Since this was not suitable for my needs, Europcar offered a manual Jeep Avenger as the only available gasoline alternative.
I was charged an additional €2,202, including excess-damage insurance, with the verbal assurance that my original €1,252 payment would be credited. This brought the total base rental cost to €3,454.
I later found that an identical 34-day Europcar rental for the Jeep Avenger was quoted at €2,560.85—approximately €893 less than I was charged. It appeared that my original payment had not been credited as I had been told.
On June 11, my credit card company alerted me to an unexpected Europcar charge of €687.56. After returning the vehicle, while I was still at the airport, I received another alert for approximately €1,414 and declined authorization. Despite contesting the additional charges with the vendors and my credit card company, I ultimately paid €5,558.
Finally, Europcar automatically converted my €2,202 upgrade charge to $2,745.60 at what I consider a predatory exchange rate of 1.2469 $/€. I was not given the choice to pay in euros and allow my credit card company to make the conversion at its substantially better rate. This failure to offer a currency choice violates Visa/Mastercard requirements for Dynamic Currency Conversion.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend these vendors without significant caution. Before signing, insist that every charge and credit be explained and shown in writing. Verify that any prepaid amount is actually credited. Before purchasing additional excess-damage insurance, check your credit card benefits—you may already have coverage for the deductible. Finally, specifically request that all charges be processed in the local currency so your credit card company can perform the conversion at its more favorable rate.

WARNING – DO NOT USE k10mobility.com & AutoEurope.com

k10mobility.com & AutoEurope.com

I booked a rental car online through Auto Europe with K10 Mobility.

The car rental company is located outside Mallorca Airport, and you are picked up by shuttle bus.

We arrived on time – there was no queue. However, we left without a car and without any resolution, because they were completely unreasonable.

I had already paid for the rental online, which is non-refundable – €220 (approx. DKK 1,650), and I also had full insurance coverage arranged from home.

1) My plastic driving licence was rejected as “invalid” because it was missing a corner.

Everything on the licence is completely readable and intact, and I have never had any problems abroad before because of this minor defect.

K10 referred to their strict laws in Spain, but they could exceptionally offer to release the car if we paid a one-time fee of €546 (approx. DKK 4,095) because of this “driving licence defect”.

So apparently there is nothing wrong with the driving licence if you simply pay an additional €546 in insurance? Does the driving licence suddenly become valid then?

K10 said they could not and would not help us in any other way and told us to contact the company we had rented the car through.

We did exactly that, but Auto Europe could neither help nor do anything about the situation. Instead, they referred us straight back to K10.

NOTE: It was not exactly easy to find a useful telephone number for Auto Europe. We had to go through four different phone numbers before finally reaching their German department.

What a service!

This is certainly not the kind of service you have to search very hard to find – judge for yourself!

I will NEVER use either of these companies again, and I will certainly make sure to speak up about this kind of treatment.

We have now rented a car from another company here in Mallorca, Spain, without any problems whatsoever and without a single comment regarding the driving licence.

Months of delays and completely contradictory explanations

Before my trip to Iceland, I emailed Auto Europe specifically to ask whether the Iceland road tax was included in my rental. I was told by Auto Europe that it was included.

When I arrived at Budget in Keflavík to pick up my car, the Budget employee told me I still had to pay an additional charge for the Iceland road tax. Because I had just arrived after an international flight and was told this was a required government fee, I paid it.

After my trip, I contacted Auto Europe because this directly contradicted what they had told me before I traveled.

Instead of receiving a prompt explanation, I spent months waiting while Auto Europe investigated the issue.

When they finally responded, they claimed the charge was not for the road tax at all, but for optional insurance that I had supposedly purchased. This was completely different from what Budget had told me at the rental counter.

Auto Europe never provided clear documentation showing that I had knowingly purchased additional insurance or explaining why Budget had described the charge as a mandatory road tax.

The most frustrating part was not just the charge itself. It was spending months trying to get an answer, only to receive an explanation that directly contradicted the information I had been given when I picked up the car.

Whether Budget gave me incorrect information or Auto Europe did, I should not have been left with two completely different explanations for the same charge.

I expected Auto Europe to stand behind the information they gave me before my trip and to help resolve the issue. Instead, I was left with contradictory explanations and had to pursue the matter myself.

Based on this experience, I will not use Auto Europe again.

Unreachable Customer Service

I made a reservation for a rental car in Italy via Autoeurope and now I regret it.

My wife didn't feel well on the day we reserved the car, so we forfeited the reservation. As we purchased the travel insurance I was sure we could get a refund. When I opened a claim the travel insurance requested a written confirmation that our reservation has never been used and for 3 weeks I can't get it from Autoeurope.

The main reason is their non-existent and unreachable Customer Service. All phone numbers associated with Autoeurope tell to use their website and hang up.

There is no way to contact this business and get a meaningful response.

I don't recommend this business to anyone.

BEWARE: Auto Europe is a SCAM and third party broker

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Auto Europe.

Before my rental even began, I realized I had accidentally booked my reservation through July 27 instead of June 27. I immediately called Auto Europe on June 13 to correct the mistake before picking up the vehicle. Rather than helping me resolve the issue, I was told that nothing could be done until after I returned the vehicle.

As a result, I spent my vacation worried about a reservation problem that I had proactively reported before my rental even started.

After returning the vehicle, I had to contact Auto Europe again to request the promised review of my early return and refund for the unused portion of the reservation. Instead of receiving assistance, I found myself chasing information while also dealing with an unexpected damage claim from the rental company.

For a company that advertises itself as an advocate for its customers, I expected far more assistance. When customers identify an obvious booking mistake before the rental begins, there should be a practical way to resolve it. Instead, I was told to wait until after the rental, creating unnecessary stress and significantly complicating the situation.

I sincerely hope Auto Europe improves its customer service and takes a more proactive role in helping customers when issues arise.

Complete scam. Contract said if one hour late you lose any money you put down. I paid for a car for two weeks and they took the car because I was 30 minutes late. I tried calling the number but it's a non working number, COMPLETE SCAM.

My experience renting a car at Venice…

My experience renting a car at Venice Marco Polo Airport (VCE) was the worst rental experience I've ever had.
I originally had an Avis reservation for a Cupra Formentor (or similar) for about USD 670. My flight arrived early, so I went to the counter to ask if I could pick it up sooner. I was told the vehicle wasn't ready and to come back later. Before deciding to return the next morning, I repeatedly called Avis that evening to confirm it wouldn't be a problem. No one answered. When I returned the following morning, my reservation had been canceled as a no-show, despite having physically visited the counter the previous day. My only option was to rent another vehicle at roughly three times the original price.
While I was at the Avis counter, another American traveler experienced a similarly frustrating situation. His flight had been delayed, his third-party reservation had already been refunded, and even after offering to pay substantially more for another vehicle, he was still turned away. Watching another customer face a similar problem made me realize my experience was not an isolated incident.
Since I had booked through Auto Europe, I immediately tried contacting them for help but couldn't reach anyone who could assist while I was stranded at the airport.
I then booked a replacement through Priceline with SIXT for approximately USD 990. At the SIXT counter, I explained what had happened. I was told my reserved vehicle category was unavailable. When I pointed out that I already had a Priceline reservation, the representative asked whether I had prepaid. I explained that I had chosen Priceline's "Pay at Counter" option. He then told me that because I hadn't prepaid, my price was not locked in.
He presented what he described as my only two options: approximately USD 2,000 with the protection package or USD 2,400 without it. Those were presented as my only available choices, so I signed the agreement.
After returning home, however, SIXT told me in writing that the replacement SUV had been provided free of charge because my reserved vehicle was unavailable. That explanation was completely inconsistent with what I had been told at the counter. My dispute has never been about signing the agreement—it's about how the transaction was presented before I signed.
I filed a complaint with SIXT, sought independent dispute resolution, and even disputed the charge through Bank of America, but ultimately received no refund

Stay away

I needed to change my reservation to add an additional day. But the "manage my booking" page button the modify the reservation is now gone. It says I cant manage the reservation online. When I go to "contact us", there is no way to email or chat and there is no phone number. So I've just lost my money with no way to contact them. I won't ever use Auto Europe again.

WARNING!!

WARNING!!! Autoeurope sold me service from Europcar in Spain. When I came to pick up the car, Europcar refused to provide the car unless i paid additional insurance which effectively doubled the price of the rental. While that is not directly relevant, I have premium VISA card with highest insurance policy, including rental car. This was just after midnight and no alternatives to rent at Alicante airport. For three months now, Autoeurope has been stalling and next step is reporting to the police.

For the third time in the past 6 years…

For the third time in the past 6 years Autoeurope's service came up short. This last time the company (Centauro) in Spain (it happens very often there) did not honor their agreement with Autoeurope, denying they had a booking through Autoeurope for me. They put in me in a position to either rent at much higher rate or go fish for another rental car company - dragging two suitcases along. I gave in because of fatigue and urgency to arrive to my destination. Now is not even possible to contact Autoeurope to claim my double charge back, as with the excuse of technology modernization they eliminated phone contact. Well, I'm done with them. If I have to be fleeced, I might as well do it directly with the rental car company.

Terrible, terrible, terrible!

I had an absolutely terrible experience with this car rental service and Europcar, and I strongly advise others to stay far away. I made a reservation in good faith, only to be told upon arrival that no car was available for me. To make matters worse, despite the fact that I never received the vehicle I paid for, they flat-out refused to issue a refund.
The staff were completely unhelpful and showed zero accountability. Instead of trying to resolve the issue, they hid behind vague policies and offered no real explanation or solution. I was left stranded, forced to scramble for alternative transportation at the last minute, which cost me significantly more time and money.
What’s most frustrating is the lack of basic fairness. Charging a customer for a service that was never delivered is unacceptable. Any reputable company would have processed a refund immediately, but this one clearly prioritizes profit over customer satisfaction.
This experience was not only inconvenient but also incredibly stressful and disappointing.
I will never use this company again, and I highly recommend that anyone considering it think twice before booking. Save yourself the headache and choose a company that actually stands by its commitments.

Don’t count on them to help if you have an issue

I’m sure they are ok if you don’t have any issues. But when I used them to rent from Budget in Innsbruck, and arrived and Budget’s systems were down, after waiting 3 hours for a car rental I called Auto Europe for help. I was told to rent a new car on site (for more than double the cost of my original rental) and that my original cost would be refunded, as well as the difference between my original booking and the onsite booking, so that my total cost wouldn’t change. They refunded my original payment but I haven’t seen that additional refund related to the onsite rental and I don’t think I ever will. Awful experience with the rental and awful experience with support, who has me the run around. I will basically never see the additional refund.

We were extremely disappointed …

We were extremely disappointed to arrive at Girona Airport on 13 June at 16:50 and discover that our car hire company, Enterprise, was closed and that there was no way of contacting anyone.
Our flight landed at 17:00 and I immediately went to the car hire area, only to realise that the Enterprise office was not located in the airport terminal. After receiving no answer to my telephone calls, I took a taxi to the Girona Enterprise office 15KM from airport - despite that my booking said Girona Airport pickup, where I discovered that the office had closed at 13:00 on Saturday.
This was completely unacceptable and caused significant stress and inconvenience at the start of what was meant to be a relaxing holiday. As a result, we were left with no option but to arrange alternative transport and eventually hired a vehicle from Gobycar at a cost of €1,044.
I am extremely disappointed by this experience and the lack of support available when we arrived.

Booked thru AutoEurope

Booked thru AutoEurope, rental company was Dryyve. When i tried to get the car, they started giving me reasons as to why I HAD to get insurance. I cancelled the reservation and went with another company. Now they're declining a refund since I didn't cancel 48hrs before pickup. Well, I didn't expect to have to pay 4x the rental car amount in insurance for lame reasons. I won't ever do business with either company ever again.
