This feels like a scam
This feels like a scam. Find a better place to rent a car.
We booked and fully prepaid a rental car through Auto Europe using a debit card in my name, while my husband was listed as the main driver.
At the rental desk in Basel, he was refused the car because the main driver must personally hold an international credit card in his own name.
Yes, this requirement technically appeared during the booking process. But Auto Europe still allowed us to complete the booking and take full payment from a debit card belonging to someone other than the main driver.
That is the part I find completely unacceptable.
If the rental cannot be collected unless the main driver personally owns a credit card, this should be treated as a basic eligibility requirement and checked before payment is accepted.
Instead, Auto Europe accepts the money, confirms the booking, and then the customer can arrive at the rental desk only to discover that the booking is unusable and the prepaid amount may be lost.
That is not a reasonable customer journey. It is a trap.
To make matters worse, I have repeatedly tried to call Auto Europe and have been unable to reach anyone. I also cannot find any straightforward email or meaningful contact option to resolve the issue.
So the result is:
We paid in full.
We received no car.
Auto Europe has our money.
And we cannot get through to anyone.
Whether or not Auto Europe can point to a checkbox in its terms, this business practice feels deeply misleading and, frankly, scam-like.
I would strongly recommend that anyone considering booking through Auto Europe checks the credit-card requirements extremely carefully before paying. Or even better, using another car rental service with decent business practises.
Terrible experience, no car and no refund
I genuinely feel scammed by Auto Europe.
I paid $500 for a Europcar rental and correctly selected Denmark as my country of residence when booking. Their website accepted it, showed no warning or error, took my money and confirmed the reservation.
At pickup, the car rental refused to give me the car because Danish residents were apparently not eligible for the rate Auto Europe sold me.
After waiting around 40 minutes to speak with Auto Europe, I was simply told: no car and no refund because I booked through their American website.
How can you knowingly accept Denmark as a country of residence, take $500, confirm the booking, and then blame the customer when the rental cannot be provided?
Absolutely unacceptable. I have filed a formal complaint and will update this review depending on whether they return my money.
Total scam
Total scam. Rented a car from Palma de Mallorca via Goldcar at a very good price. When we arrived, they refused to give us the car unless we add extra 250 eur for an insurance which I did not need , since I already had an insurance via my visa credit card. Looked for a phone number to call but they were closed in the evening. We left without a car, so this was a total scam. There
Not trustworthy
Would not rent through them unless it’s one of the big three - no support if scammed by local car rental
Bad when you have a claim
Renting of a car was ok, but customerservice is the worst. they hide behinf a form on the website and when you have a claim, the just finalize and get no answer on the result. Called them, but the customer service never return even though it was agreed with an administrative employee. I have a claim on a damage og 1500 chf...but never heard from Europecar. It's a bad company
No support !
I need help to manage a damage that was claimed by Nollegiare on my car when i returned it. I have tried to call, but an automatic voice says that the office is closed, even in the normal opening hours for Auto Europe. I have written an email to Auto Europe explaining my issue. Email was on their webpage. I get no answer back. Pretty hard to get support!!

WARNING: AVOID AUTO EUROPE AT ALL COSTS – INCOMPETENCE, A DECEITFUL INSURANCE SCAM, AND A GROSS DATA BREACH
Let me be perfectly clear: our experience with Auto Europe was a catastrophe from start to finish, and I am here to strongly warn everyone against using their services. This isn't just bad customer service; this is a level of incompetence that is directly harmful to their customers.
The Worthless Insurance Trap
We booked a 2-day car rental with Hertz at Stansted through Auto Europe's platform. Upon return, we were hit with an absurd charge of over £600 for alleged damages that were already on the car when we picked it up.
But "luckily," we had purchased Auto Europe's "full coverage" insurance to avoid exactly this kind of situation. Or so we thought.
Our insurance claim was promptly rejected on the grounds that the car was returned outside of opening hours. The absolute absurdity is that it was Auto Europe's OWN booking system that allowed us to select that exact return time TOGETHER with the insurance policy.
They have deliberately engineered a digital trap where they sell you an insurance product they know will be void under the very terms they themselves offer. This isn't just poor service; this is calculated deception that borders on an outright scam. You are lured into paying for a false sense of security that vanishes the moment you actually need it.
Shockingly Unprofessional Handling of Personal Data
As if the financial slap in the face wasn't enough, Auto Europe also managed to demonstrate a terrifying level of incompetence on another level entirely. I received an email from them containing another customer's Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
This isn't just an "oops" moment; it is a gross breach of data security and a serious violation of GDPR regulations. To handle customer data with such carelessness is completely unacceptable and dangerous. It signals an organization in a state of total decay.
Conclusion:
The verdict is clear: Auto Europe is a company that operates with deceitful business practices, sells sham insurance products, and shows an appalling lack of respect for its customers' data and privacy.
Stay far, far away. This experience has cost us our time, our money, and our peace of mind. Do not let yourself become the next victim of their amateurish and predatory system.

I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with our recent experience renting a car through your company on Gran Canaria.
Upon arrival at the airport, we followed the instructions provided in the rental document. However, these were vague and confusing – especially for a first-time visitor unfamiliar with the area or the airport. We tried to locate the pick-up point, but no one at the airport had heard of your company or ClickRent in general.
After an extended period of searching and growing frustration, we attempted to call the phone numbers listed on the document – both the driver’s number and your main office. It took several calls and failed attempts before we finally reached someone at your headquarters, which only made the situation worse. Communication was extremely difficult, as the representative spoke very poor English and did not appear to be familiar with the airport’s pick-up procedures.
After speaking with a total of seven different people from your company, and still with no resolution – let alone a car – we had no choice but to give up and try to cancel the booking. However, we were informed that this was not possible… It is simply unacceptable to be unable to cancel a pick-up that never took place. The entire process was frustrating, unprofessional, and a complete waste of time and money.
It is deeply disappointing that a car rental experience can turn out to be so chaotic and inefficient. I expect a formal apology as well as a full refund, as we never received access to the vehicle we paid for.

Out-of-Hours Fee for Minimal Delay and Confusing Booking Information Dear Europcar Customer Service,
Dear Europcar Customer Service,
I am writing to formally raise a complaint regarding the handling of my recent rental experience and the out-of-hours surcharge applied.
We had a confirmed booking with a pick-up time of 23:00. Due to a slight flight delay, we arrived at the counter at 23:04. We were then informed that, because we arrived outside normal opening hours, an additional fee of approx. €36.60 would be charged, as outlined in the rental terms.
While I acknowledge that the terms mention such a fee, I find it extremely disappointing that no tolerance or grace period was allowed for a delay of just four minutes — particularly when it was caused by circumstances entirely outside our control. This rigid enforcement feels unreasonable and reflects poorly on your customer service standards.
In addition, our booking confirmation stated “Keddy by Europcar,” which caused confusion at the airport and delayed our ability to locate the correct rental counter promptly. This lack of clear branding and guidance contributed to the short delay and could easily have been avoided with more transparent information.
In light of the minimal nature of the delay, the confusion caused by branding, and the fact that we were otherwise fully on time and prepared, I believe this fee to be unjustified. I respectfully request a refund of the out-of-hours surcharge and urge Europcar to review its handling of similar situations.
I look forward to your reply and a resolution of this matter.
Yours sincerely,
Anne-Mette

Double price or NO car….
Rented a car thru Autoeurope with Super Cover.
When we picked up the car, the car rental company did not accept our voucher from Autoeurope.
They denied to give us the car unless we accepted additional insurance.
This way the price were doubled…
We tried to contact Autoeurope, but there were NO help at all.
Customer service do not exist with Autoeurope.

Problemfri reservation
Hidden extra fees
Otherwise loyal customer has used Autoeurope for the last time.
By reservation EU-21564465, the company failed to inform me about a mandatory cleaning fee to the car rental company. The car was returned with dust and stains from normal use, but for the first time in my life I was charged a fee for car cleaning. Autoeurope refused to help relieve me from the unexpected extra expenses - stupid choice!

They will take your money
Voucher EU21482664-1 Prepaid the car at AutoEurope incl. the required insurance. When arriving in Palma Airport ClickRent was nowhere to be found. ClickRent claim to be sited in the airport terminal. So does AutoEurope apparently. But they are not. You need to find a shuttle bus and drive 15 minutes to the ClickRent yard. So what can you do when they shuttle you to the middle of nowhere and then start their scam. The ClickRent lady forced me to pay 120 Euro for extra insurance. I refused since I already paid for insurance, also my MasterCard includes insurance. Then the desk lady refused to give me the car, so ultimately I paid to get on the road. AutoEurope are unable to compensate me they say. But they are able to take my money. For what ? And they are able to cooperate with a shady company as ClickRent. Been renting with AutoEurope for +20 years but I will consider where to go next time I need a rental.

Do not rent a car via AutoEurope
I rented a car from a car company via Autoeurope. I paid extra for full insurance.
When fetching the car, I was told that Autoeurope’s insurance was not valid, and that I would have to pay 249 euro for extra insurance. I protested, but was told that I would have to contact Autoeurope if I was not satisfied. Shortly afterwards, I contacted the car company to complain, and was told exactly the same.
AutoEurope say they cannot help me, since my signature is on the extra insurance policy (force majeure: otherwise they would not have given me the car.)
Moral: If you hire a car from another company via AutoEurope, you risk being caught in a scam.

This is the worse experience that I've…
This is the worse experience that I've ever had.
2 months begging to have my reimbursement due to a tire puncture. I was charged by the car rental company and AutoEurope should reimburse me as I hired full coverage insurance. Since then I'm in contact with AutoEurope to have my reimbursement and they answer with a lot of delays, asking to use the site to raise the complaint what doesn't work (the site keep in a loop). After I wrote the 1st review about them here, they asked me to contact another customer service mail, but, no answer since 5 days. When this difficulty of to have my rights will be won?? This is the worse service after rental that I've ever experienced and I don't recommend this company. They could never offer insurance if it is charged by the rental company. They should let the insurance to be hired directly with the rental company!!!!
