Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 143 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found the mail app and website functionality poor, citing issues like ineffective search and filter options, and disappearing archived messages. Users frequently experienced being thrown out of the app, losing work, and struggling with account access due to incorrect password prompts or recovery options sending codes to old phone numbers. Additionally, a significant number of customers reported a lack of accessible customer support, with no live person to contact for help. However, some customers found the service reliable for daily tasks and personal use, appreciating its convenient synchronization and overall problem-free operation.

Google AI locked our account and won’t…

Google AI locked our account and won’t reinstate it. We are a nonprofit community art organization that not only used gmail, but used the Google account to sign into other services. There is no recourse, no way to contact a live person to help. We’ve move to proton email, but will never be able to recover all the contacts in the Gmail account.

Stay away from Google. With all their money, they still don’t offer live support.

google security is the pits

many apps would allow me to login using google. One name, one password for many different apps. breaches security rule number 1, do not use same name and password for multiple apps. Google have zero idea or concern for security.

at the other extreme, gmail persists in locking me out for 48 hours because it insists on multistep login process. by the time I have found my phone or done multi-step login to another email, the gmail codes have expired.

I just want a username and password to login. In one case google make these totally insecure (same login for multiple apps), in another the make it so secure I can't access my email. How do I block all use of multi-step login?

The last update has made it unusable

The last update has made it unusable on my Samsung. It swallows up my power in a matter of hours. My battery went from lasting up to 2 days to lasting 8hrs. Returned to 10 days when I archived Gmail.

They have wiped all my contacts

They have wiped all my contacts. Now when I start to write the name of my contact nothing happens and it doesn't recognise them. I looked on my contact list and now that is empty too. It was fine two weeks ago but I came back from holiday and now this. Why???? I though I'd report it but every time I try to send it, it says it cannot be sent. That's a lot of good when you can't even report it, so why even put that on there if you can't use it. Talk about rubbish. Just when I thought they couldn't get any worse, they do!!!

Oh, the hollow echo of that promise, mocking my every attempt.

Oh, the indignity of it all! My trusty landline, bless its heart, it stretches its tendrils to every dusty corner of this gilded cage I call home. It meets every need, every whispered word. But no, no, no, the modern world, in its infinite and maddening wisdom, has decreed we must all be tethered to these infernal mobile contraptions. I can't even peek into my own mailbox without one! And soon, oh so soon, this wretched cancer will claim me, and my coffers are as bare as a winter tree. The pressure, the sheer, crushing pressure from society to acquire one of these things! How many of my fellow pensioners nod in weary agreement?

In my desperate quest to reach the whispers of my urgent Yahoo mail, I sought solace in the promise of a Google account, a beacon that Google itself proclaimed wouldn't demand a mobile phone. Oh, the hollow echo of that promise, mocking my every attempt.

I wrestled with browsers, a dance of the ordinary and the private, with and without the invisible veil of a VPN. Yet, each time, that infernal Google page, a digital sentinel of frustration, screamed its demand for a phone number. Each time, the same cruel refrain.

I confided my plight to a bot, a tireless companion for an eternity, its circuits humming with an unhelpful loop. It understood not, and in its confusion, spun its digital wheels, going nowhere.

Then, a voice from my broadband provider, the very architects of my digital home, the ones I had entrusted with my mailbox. Another bot, another circle of confusion, and then, a stark reminder of their world: an attempt to peddle me television and broadband deals. Can you imagine? While I was adrift in a sea of despair, they offered their profit-driven wares.

Cancer, a cruel spectre, will soon claim me. Sky knows. They know I am a lady fading, a candle guttering in the wind. And still, they seek to fatten their coffers. For thirty-five years, I have been a loyal shadow in their halls. Thirty-five years! And this is the bounty they lay at my feet?

I had a gmail account for years however their most recent update made me quit. When i read what they intended i.e. basically the creater of the account will basically no longer be the owner of it that was the final straw for me. I quit and deleted my entire google account and moved to something completely new to me.. It was a extreme overreach by google but hey its to be expected by big companies and the way the world is heading i.e where people will no longer own anything.. another 'conspiracy come true'...

The filter messages is useless

The filter messages is useless. I have often tried to create a filter to remove and delete unwanted emails from spam senders. These arrive on very specific email addresses so it should be easy to create a filter. Having tried this on a number of occasions against an offending company, I still receive emails, albeit in my spam folder. My request in creating the filter is to delete this without sending to my spam folder. IT DOES NOT WORK, get it right gmail or there is no point in having this useless option!!!

Gmail has become incredibly frustrating…

Gmail has become incredibly frustrating when creating a new account. What used to be a simple sign-up process now feels like jumping through endless hoops.

I was asked to scan a QR code and verify with an SMS, which in some cases may result in carrier charges. For a free email service, forcing additional verification steps like this feels excessive and inconvenient, especially for users who just want to create a basic account.

Security is important, but Google seems to have prioritized verification barriers over user experience. Creating a Gmail account today is far more complicated than it used to be, and the process can feel intrusive and unnecessary.

Google should find a better balance between security and accessibility. Not everyone wants to provide extra personal information or go through multiple verification steps just to get an email address.

Google says they have robust spam filtering for their Gmail. That is far from the truth. I get at least 30 crap emails a day on that account that I rarely use and I get none on my msn account. They are the worst for email.

While I was working google loged me out

While I was working, Google logged me out of my account. It’s Saturday, and I have urgent things to take care of. Now Google is telling me I have to contact the administrator. It’s a business account, so I won’t be able to do anything until Monday. And starting the week like this, with my email and calendar not working—how am I supposed to keep track of my appointments? I think Google isn’t customer-friendly and is putting up hurdles that cost me valuable time and are just a hassle. We’ll probably have to rethink our partnership with Google.

Worst email system since the beginning

Worst email system since the beginning, several of my email addresses were hacked, I get tons of spam that passes thru their so-called security system. There's just one solution delete all my Gmail accounts and find a secure email provider. I also hate Google Chrome browser that tracks everything you do. Good bye Google.

The email isn’t too bad but what is…

The email isn’t too bad but what is absolutely pathetic is the subscriptions box. Emails that are not part of a subscription always end up in there but, emails that are part of a subscription never go in there, what sense is there in that. Absolutely stupid it is a massive waste of space that subscription box. Including that subscription box as part of Gmail is the worst addition ever to Gmail.
