Evaluating 45 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Longtime users frequently complained about massive, unexpected price hikes that drastically increased their monthly costs without providing any noticeable improvements to the aging platform. Some reviewers were not happy with the complicated cancellation policies, noting that they were forced to pay extra fees and unwanted charges even after ending their subscriptions. People also mentioned facing extremely long wait times on the phone and receiving completely unhelpful customer service when attempting to resolve technical problems with their email accounts. Consumers felt that the company no longer values loyal clients, leading many to migrate their services elsewhere.

Awful

Awful, awful company now. 30 minutes on the phone to pay a bill. I had to phone because their billing system would not accept my card. They did not claim on the Direct Debit. And now, after yet more problems, even after phoning and supposedly paying my bill, I receive a call from my bank's fraud team. That sums it up.

Shadow of what they once were

Shadow of what they once were - bottom line - I've been a customer for over 10 years and this year have given up.

We are migrating all services away from Rackspace.

Don't touch them for ANY service. 100s of better options. I don't see Rackspace being here in a few years if this is the level of service they're going to now for long-standing customers.

Ineffective employees. Except in Billing Dept.!

Horrendous business practices and customer service. Rackspace had hosted our email for decades via a marketing company. That company advised us that due to changes at Microsoft, our email would no longer be supported and we needed to establish our own direct link with Rackspace and then migrate the old email account(s) to the new account(s). They happily billed us every month but lacked the ability or skill to migrate the email accounts. We were not the administrator(s) on the old email accounts so had no power in the migration process. They do have a polite support team that was not helpful to us. We are on the West Coast and they seem to have East Coast Hours. It's extremely difficult to reach anyone there who knows what they are doing. So much frustration with Rackspace! When we finally gave up they would not speak with us directly. Claimed our phones were not working. When we requested full refund for the wasted time not being able to use the new Rackspace email accounts. They refused a full refund.

How can they improve?
1. Listen to your customers!
2. Identify all hurdles to success. Remove them.
3. If you cannot successfully provide the service your customer is paying for... DO NOT CHARGE YOUR CUSTOMER FOR THE TIME WHERE YOU (Rackspace) FAILED TO PROVIDE THAT SERVICE.

One star is about 5 stars too many!

Without doubt the worst company I've ever dealt with in my 25+ years of working in IT.

Having been a customer of theirs for corporate email for well over a decade I decided to migrate all my personal email accounts to them, however after just over a year they advertised that they were increasing their costs by over 300%. Great service up until then, but not at that cost, sorry.

Having migrated my accounts away to a new provider I cancelled my account with them, receiving confirmation of the termination date, hoping that was the end of that saga. How wrong was I?

Since then, and over the last 3 months, I've received COUNTLESS emails notifing me of my account being in arrears (I've blocked the card*) only for today to receive a threatening email suggesting they will be proceeding with debt recovery if I don't log into their portal and clear the account.

There's just one problem, when I cancelled the account it terminated my access to the portal, proof that it was indeed cancelled.

Did I say "one problem"? - I wish!

They simply refuse to respond to emails. When you call it depends on luck of the draw as to whether you'll get a support rep who is a) capable or b) willing to even try and help.

This evening however I did manage to get put throught to a manager who insisted that the account was closed, there were no payments outstanding and that it was entirly normal to receive these emails.

SERIOUSLY? It's "entirely normal" to spam ex-customers and threaten them with legal action for an account that's in arrears to the sum of zero dollars? Having asked for emailed proof that the account is closed and that all outstanding monies are paid I was told "someone will be in touch soon". I'm honestly not holding my breath!!!!

Do yourself a favour and DO NOT use Rackspace, and if you do, make 100% certain that you document absolutely everything when you finally leave them because otherwise it's going to be like Hotel California!

* Why did I block the card you ask? Because we had almost exactly the same issue migrating a few of our corporate domains away from them as well!

WORST CUSTOMER SUPPORT RUN!!

You can call customer support and they will tell you it's not their department and you need to call back the next day because they are going off shift. Been trying to get someone to fix a problem for three days!

Raising prices and lowering quality

This is a company that raised their monthly email box price by over 300% back near the start of 2026, all because of the claim that "costs were increasing". However, there are better-priced options out there with better support than what this company is charging and providing. I have moved about 75% of my email accounts to other providers, save just a few that are harder to migrate, and even with the ones that I still have, I have not found the customer support to be improved or even as helpful as it once was (now at 300% more cost).

This is a company to avoid at all costs.

Disappointed long time customer

I was a customer of Rackspace for over 10 years. All of a sudden, they increased the price 400%. I was unable to cancel after multiple attempts and they continued to try to bill me. Now they are threatening to send a collection agency after me, but I never even received an invoice for the amount I owe.

Don't Go with Rackspace

Where to start...

We were told our client's server was EOL. Great. It happens. We were told the replacement to that server was 2x the cost of what they were paying. When the client said they didn't want to pay double and said they were going to look for an alternative provider, Rackspace didn't take this as a "written" cancelation even though their rep said "Sorry to see you go," and "let us know if we can help" via email.

Rackspace then kept the server going after the term ended so they tacked on another 3 month cancelation fee per the MSA, totaling over $5k.

Don't do business with the predators. Companies like these need to go out of business.

Having been a long time customer of…

Having been a long time customer of Rackspace, they obviously had a major malware attack where we lost mail for months on end. Then, all of a sudden, they've now changed their billing process, and I requested multiple times for multiple email accounts to be closed or cancelled, and they refused to let me cancel them through their portal, and they are very unhelpful. I've now been charged $600 for email accounts that I did not even wish to use. These guys are completely incompetent.

awful, awful, awful

awful, after almost ten years of deactivating everything I've started to get charged. wtf. now I try to pay, I can't because the card on the system is for my old business that closed ten years ago. try adding a new card - not accepted. now I'm on hold to cancel this wretched account. for all things, if someone wants to leave, let them go, don't p155 them off any further.

make 1 person happy they might tell another person, make 1 person unhappy and they will tell the world!!

Stay away - Terrible service

Stay away! Terrible product and terrible customer service. When you try to cancel you have to pay for an extra month of service. I was then locked out of my account. When talking to customer service, I was routed to 4 different people. Customer service phone connections are terrible and barely audible. I would never use Rackspace for anything and never recommend them. 0-5 stars if possible!!!

Ripoff

Increased the price by a multiple of three. When I cancelled - they charged me for two months because I'd cancelled just after a payment had been taken, so they charged me another month for the privilege of cancelling.

Really poor

very bad experience

After an incredible increase in prices, I cancelled my subscription. However, not only they charged me for the month I cancelled, they also charged me for another month at full price because they decided to apply a 1 month notice. Thieves.

Another long time customer

Our company has been a customer with Rackspace for close to 10 years. The last couple of years service has reached an absolute zero-point.

I've used countless hours on the phone with support trying to resort issues to no avail - every time speaking on bad lines, with hard to understand English speakers, loud traffic in the background. Unhelpful, unaccountable and a waste of time.

The 400% price hike on email services was the last drop.

Terrible company that has fallen far from what their service used to be.

Stay as far away as you possibly can.

Many of the reviews appear to be for…

Many of the reviews appear to be for Rackspace's email products so I thought I'd put the perspective from an SME using their more traditional dedicated server offerings. After almost twenty years of being a Rackspace client I can say that they were good, so good that it arguably justified their high price.
Our more recent experience however shows signs of a failing company. Server outages because servers were accidentally plugged into the adjacent rack's power. DNS configuration errors taking critical servers out of service for entire working days. . . All of those we can understand as the pitfalls of what it after all a complex operation.
But the level of support we have received recently has been, put plainly, awful. Providing a replacement product without advising that it would not provide the prior product's features. Slow to respond to simple questions. Us having to advise them that the server was down. A general lack of communication masked by pointless ticket updates. And to add insult to injury pretty much ignoring complaints.
They used to be good but are now, I'm afraid, better to be avoided.

Avoid Rackspace like the plague, that would be better…

Never use this business under any circumstances. We’ve used Rackspace for a number of years and always supported them and recommended them, not based on their service but simply that they USED TO BE the gold standard with hosting and emails.

Those days are long gone. Recently they increased their email hosting prices by more than 235%. Our £60/m invoice is now more than £250… they do not care about you, your customers or your business.

If you are with them or even considering them, run, get away as far as you can and use far more reliable businesses out there.

As someone who has used them for more than 15 years, I would NEVER, EVER recommend them to anyone ever again.

I used Rackspace for years and they…

I used Rackspace for years and they were very good. Several months ago, they started raising their prices exorbitantly. For the past few months I have been trying to get the account canceled to no avail. I’ve submitted tickets that are not responded to. The email addresses they use cannot be responded to. The phone support in getting the account cancelled has been abysmal. I have gotten to the point of needing to threaten legal action against them.

DO NOT USE RACKSPACE
