Yet another fabulous holiday with Aahilya and Isha. We visited lots of interesting places and took part in great workshops. Everyone on the trip was very friendly and our driver, his helper and guide... See more

Textiles tour of West Bengal
Not my first holiday with Aahilya Holidays - and certainly not my last! The experiences have left a lifetime of wonderful memories.
Superbly organised down to the smallest detail by Isha and the staff of Aahilya. And we were honoured to have the company of the talented textile and embroidery artist, Paula Watkins.
We explored many aspects of local textile production - with hands on workshops - from rural village family work, block printing, batik dyeing, kantha stitching, small scale silk production, beautiful temples, grand scale flower market, trip on the mighty Ganges, all complemented by extraordinarily kind, friendly and informative people.

Textile tour of Gujarat
Another great trip with Isha and Wendy. You genuinely get to meet skilled Indian artisans in their own workrooms (or back gardens)! Demonstrations and workshops to learn some of the techniques they have spent years perfecting. It would be almost impossible for individuals to track down craftsmen & women without the inside knowledge Aahilya and their local guides possess.
On top of all this, there are historical sights & general interest visits. Every care is taken for their guests, l felt safe and secure at all times.

An Outstanding Trip
This was, by no means, my first visit to West Bengal, but it was made memorable, by the wide range of experiences offered, the care and attention to detail given by our tour leader, the creative inspiration shared by the accompanying textile artist, and the outstanding knowledge of our tour guide. As well as the planned highlights, we had many memorable, serendipitious expexperiences, like seeing jaggery being made by the roadside, or an impromptu visit to a Santal village. Of course, in this less touristy part of India, there was the occasional glitch, efficiently handled by our tour leader, which helped us to feel more in touch with the lives and circumstances of the local people. I would certainly love to travel to India again with Isha and Aahilya.

Textile tour of West Bengal
Having been on a previous textile trip to Rajasthan I went on this trip with high expectations and I was not disappointed. It was a wonderful and inspiring mix of sight-seeing, culture, textile experiences, visits where “normal” tourists do not get to go and some retail therapy as well. Isha was a delightful host taking care of every detail, often anticipating our needs before we had realised what they were ourselves. Every day was an adventure, a feast for the senses. I will certainly be booking another trip with Aahilya.

Perfectly planned
I went on an Aahilya holiday to West Bengal.
An incredible region of India for textile lovers!
It was the most wonderful experience. I knew it was going to be fantastic but it exceeded all my expectations. Every detail of every day was planned so perfectly. Each experience took our breath away because we were treated to the best of culture, textile heritage, exquisite artistry, local village life and textiles that were humbling to behold.
All our needs were taken care of so well. We were such a happy group of travellers and reliving each day through the excited retelling of one another’s experiences has been a complete joy. Thank you so much Aahilya for your expertise, your care, great guides and unforgettable textile adventures. We will be back!

North East India & Hornbill Festival
I booked the trip “Glimpses of North East India and Hornbill Festival” because it seemed to offer a unique combination of traditional crafts and culture. I was not disappointed. It was a wonderful opportunity to see many local craftspeople at work, to marvel at the skill of these artisans and even to attempt some of those crafts ourselves. Of course, spending a day at the Hornbill Festival, watching the performance of tribal dances and songs, was a highlight but so were the visits to individual communities of artisans where we could see how they lived and worked. Without the knowledge and careful planning behind this trip we would not have been able to access these experiences, many of them situated in small villages and towns. Our guides and drivers must be mentioned as their knowledge, patience and skill added to our enjoyment. There are so many memorable moments from this holiday, the welcome from local people, the food provided in abundance – You will be amazed how much you can eat because it is so delicious that you don’t want to stop, the opportunity to see a private collection of exquisite historical embroideries, and, on a personal note, at one hotel having an ayurvedic massage that banished the back ache that had been plaguing me for more than 2 months, plus many more events. I was impressed that Isha, the organiser, was always thinking if there were any alterations she might make to the itinerary and arrangements for future trips to improve the experience but I loved it just as it was.

Unique and amazing holiday
I have just returned from the trip to Nagaland and Assam. It was a fabulous holiday extremely well organised with great attention to detail and ensuring that everyone had what they needed. What made the holiday so special were the opportunities to visit villages and projects that were really interesting, places that we would never have known about otherwise. There were so many highlights, the Nagaland dance festival which was my main reason for going, but I also loved visiting people in their homes and having meals with them, watching the different styles of weaving, the fabulous food, learning village dances and attending a demonstration of different dances in Assam, trying out embroidery, block printing and tie dying in Kolkata, seeing the countryside and visiting temples. I learnt so much from the holiday, it was a complete delight from start to finish and had been extremely well planned.
I would definitely recommend Aahilya holidays and hope to have another trip with them in the future.

Unusual holidays in special places
Well thought out programme, seeking out special activities such as block printing, indigo dyeing and Kantha workshops, meals in local people's homes, amazing dance/music performances, opportunities to meet local people in areas where we met few tourists, chance to go to the incredible Hornbill festival. Excellent guide and drivers, attention to detail and friendliness of all we came in contact with. Good value. Will definitely travel with them again (my previous trip to W. Bengal was also excellent)

My recent tour of Nagaland and Assam…
My recent tour of Nagaland and Assam with Isha Sharma of Aahilya Holidays was my 9th holiday with this company but I can honestly say that I consider it the best yet. It was amazing! Both Nagaland and Assam were like stepping back in history and seeing the India of a century ago. One highlight was spending a day at the Hornbill Festival, watching the tribes of Nagaland perform their traditional dances, ranging in style from the beautiful and haunting butterfly dance to watching the Konyak tribes, former headhunters, dressed in tribal costumes and brandishing spears and rifles, perform their warlike routine. We stayed in Kohima and learnt the wartime history of the area and visited the beautiful cemetery. There are still remaining traditional wooden huts to see in the tribal villages and the history we learnt about the interaction between the British and the Naga tribes was fascinating. Another highlight was visiting the Kaziranga nature reserve and seeing one horned rhinos in the wild.
In Assam, a highlight was crossing the mighty Brahmaputra river by ferry and seeing the houses built on stilts in low-lying Majuli Island. We visited monasteries, watched traditional music and dancing, mask making, handloom textiles pottery and so much more. The city of Guwahati was a revelation, with artisan shops and local bazaars. Both Nagaland and Asssam were uncommercialised and unspoilt. The tour started and ended in Kolkata, itself a wonderful city and one which I was glad to visit again.
The tour was exciting, unusual and much that we saw was unexpected. I would not have missed it for the world.

Wonderful and Inspiring Adventure.
This was my first time to India and it was the most magical experience, all thanks to the impeccable organisation of Isha and Aahilya holiday. And having Helen Sill as our textiles guide made the adventure so interesting and immersive. The workshops with local families and artisans were pitched just right and gave us a real insight into the lives of these amazing and generous people.
Now I’m looking to book my next holiday with Aahilya.
Thank you Isha and Helen for making this such a memorable experience.

I have had the most wonderful holiday…
I have had the most wonderful holiday experience ever! It was far more than I expected being able to meet local families and small community businesses doing block printing, indigo dying and embroidery. Most of which is well away from your typical tourist traps. I still can't say what my favourite part of my stay in India has been as it has all been such a wonderful experience.
Isha and her guides have a wealth of knowledge, experience and expertise. Nothing is ever too much trouble and you are greeted with such a warm welcome. I hope to return soon with Aahilya Holidays.

Social conscience and good company
This was our first organised tour and I rather dreaded the sort of herd feeling I'd seen at tourist places. I should not have feared. Isha and Aahilya take you to places that you would not otherwise see - the woman's cooperative that teaches textile skills, the leprosy charity that gives medical aid and a home to rejected lepers while teaching them to weave the finest cotton. Combine that with amazing workshops and the normal sightseeing plus plush hotels and the company of like minded people and you end up with the holiday of a lifetime. I will be back

Would highly recommend.
