They are lucky not to have no stars to trigger! In January they sent me an email congratulating me that I have become a 'no charge' customer and followed this by refunding my account and card fees (I regularly pay monthly my UK pension into my account). Then the next quarterly charge was made and not refunded. I visited the Torre Pacheco branch in May, and the staff member recognised this was a mistake and said he would investigate and email me. I didn't receive that response until I emailed him a second time asking for an update. His response was that he had moved branches and was no longer able to deal with the matter. I was then passed from pillar to post and back again by customer services who, not only failed to make any attempt to help, also irritated by clearly giving an automated list of criteria required to access charge free accounts when I had also copied to them on each occasion the email from Bankia stating I was free from charges. If i could find a convenient way of changing banks without involving a charge to myself and having to change all my direct debit details I would do so - I may still go down that route. They also think it is OK to telephone from the UK at my expense and have a lengthy telephone call, when the error has clearly made by them and their system. There is an offer of 'call back' but they don't.

Bad service and high bank charges with no explanation...... Also given wrong information several times about payment dates then had my credit card blocked through misinformation. Always one person on cash desk causing long waiting times sometimes up to a hour
Update to previous review - AWFUL
As per my previous review and other people's reviews with Bankia and it's problems, here is an update!
I have received today an email from a DEBT COLLECTION AGENCY FROM BANKIA!!!!
There is money in the account to cover a considerable amount of months mortgages and a monthly rent going in and my transfers.
I received the letter and immediately contacted the agency who informed me the mortgage payment had lapsed 3 DAYS AGO!!!! I have immediately contacted the branch who after an hour of trying someone answered the phone..... they looked at my account and said they had "forgotten" to send the payment. This is ridiculous and outrageous behaviour from a bank. How are they still allowed to operate as a bank when they can't carry out their duties???
Taking money out my account €15 every 2…
Taking money out my account €15 every 2 months maintenance fee and now I find that I am in the red again because of a €28 annual debit card fee! Well not putting any more money into this account, they can get lost! Horrible bank. Avoid them at all costs because they will cost you!

We have a similar problem
We have a similar problem. €125k frozen. No access to broken online banking. No help from branch staff after expensive, time consuming trips to Spain. No way to retrieve the money.
Did anyone have any success sorting this out? And how?
WORST WORST WORST THIEVING LYING BANK…
WORST WORST WORST THIEVING LYING BANK IN SPAIN - THEY STOPPED ALL OUR DIRECT DEBITS, WE HAD MONEY IN THE BANK TO PAY FOR HEALTHCARE INSURANCE ETC - THEY STOLE OFF US A 90 Euro a month bank charge - Even trying to leave them they want P60's from the Uk etc - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE - FUENGIROLA ONE WE USED. ALSO PREPARE TO WAIT 1 HOUR EVERY TIME YOU GO IN. HOPELESS CLOWNS - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!
The worst bank ever.
Unfortunately I had to rate them with one star to enable me to write a review. One star is one too many. Bankia should change their name to WANKIA. This has to be the worst bank I have ever had the misfortune to use. I sold my house in Spain over one year ago and my lawyer paid the funds into my BMN account which was taken over by Bankia. I found that I could not use my account and it has taken over 3 months of chasing and sending UK tax documents to them to unblock it was eventually unblocked for one transaction and then blocked again. Worst bank I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. Not only that but I then found out that a sum €400 was being removed from my account each year. When I queried this I was told it was for life insurance on my wife and that it had been taken each year since 2012. I advised them that we had never requested this and I was eventually sent a copy of the document supposedly by my wife for the insurance but payment was being taken from my bank account. On checking the documents the signatures were clearly a forgery and the date that the document was signed we were not in Spain nor for some weeks either side of the date. Needless to say the bank will deny all responsibility even though a possibly current employee who should be fairly easy to identify has committed fraud. My house sale proceeds are now frozen and I just want to close my account and get my money out.
Have to give it 1 star
Have to give it 1 star. A bank that wouldnt change danish money unto euro.
Customer service was OK with BMN, but Bankia....!!
Customer service was OK with BMN, and the staff were pretty good.....until they were taken over by Bankia. Now the service is dreadful. They would be closed down if this was the UK. Surely it is criminal for them to freeze your account without any warning or explanation? I have been trying to solve this problem for a few days now, and they don't respond to emails or answer the phone most of the time. When they do answer the phone, they don't follow through with what they say they will do. This is causing me a great deal of distress; I just want to pay my taxes and bills.
Arrogant Director
Customers waiting in line for hours, only one cashier. No opening hours stated outside the bank.
Asked the arrogant swedish Director if they could make a sign, he didnt care at all, and just passed by in a very arrogant maner.
Without doubt the worst Bank I have ever dealt with
Without doubt the worst Bank I have ever dealt with. There sole purpose is to get as much money out of you as possible. They do not reply to calls or emails and there staff are rude and unprofessional.
After taking over my Mortgage account from Caja Murcia they told me that they had taken out a life policy for €27000 on my €104,000 mortgage without my consent at a cost of €80. Which is no use to anyone and totally unfit for purpose.
As I wasn't aware of this, they then demanded €250,00 which included penalties and interest.
When I queried this they have refused to answer any of my emails and to make matters worse when I made a complaint via Facebook, I was told they would reply in 2 months.
If yo are considering using Bankia do yourself a favour and look elsewhere.
Be careful before using this Bank
Disgusting service
Disgusting service
never reply to emails or phone calls, account login is a nightmare, extortionate charges, take money without warning then charge you for going overdrawn, worst customer care ever.

They have blocked my account again and do not even kow if my bills are getting paid or not. No english contact numbers listed on their website and never reply to any e-mails.
Will be changing banks the next time we are down in Spain
Shocking service!
We opened our account ourselves in one of the Granada Branches In April this year and deposited 1100Euros into the account. We we're sent debit cards. These were cancelled without our knowledge. Our Spanish Lawyer (with our Power of Attorney) attended the offices to ask what had happened. They refused to deal with him. Upon our return to Spain in July we returned to the Branch with the translator from our Lawyers. They informed us that the account was live and that they could see the DD's that our Lawyer had set up for Utilities. They had no idea why the cards had been cancelled, so, he arranged a second lot to be forwarded to our UK address. He also gave us a code to use 'Online Banking'.
Upon our return home the cards were here. However, being able to get in to Bankia via the cash machines here we are unable to use any of the services. The code we were given for On-line Banking says 'invalid'!!.
I have emailed Bankia on a number of occasions and they NEVER reply!
So they have our money and we cannot access it. We are out again in October and will go to the Branch, retrieve our funds and close the account. Avoid them like the Plague!

I have been trying to log on since i returned from Albir in june to log onto my account ive sent numerous emails not one has been answered.ive phoned and its Spanish.i am not happy.
Dreadful service and staggering incompetence.
Since Bankia took over BMN earlier this year there has been problem after problem with our account. At first we couldn't even get into it - we live in the UK and Bankia had cheerfully changed all the details needed to access the account online. A visit to Spain and several hours in the branch sorted that. Now, though, the online account is telling us we haven't declared a country of tax residence, which is complete nonsense since that's part of the declaration we had to make during our last visit. So far I've sent all our identity documents to our branch three times, without any acknowledgement from them. And the online account is still saying we haven't declared any tax residency. All in all, a terrible experience with this bank. We'll be moving as soon as we can.

I transferred money from overseas by swift on 17th may still waiting . Helpline useless I can see my account as they can , told go to branch . Went to branch they have sent 3 mails over a couple of days to swift dept. No reply. What a shambles. They hold my money, no contact numbers for foreign or transfer department. I did not have this problem with BMN. I WILL MOVE BANKS........WOULD NOT RECOMMEND BANKIA.
Worst bank I've ever tried to use in…
Worst bank I've ever tried to use in last 30 years. Live in Gran Alacant. Bankia took over BMN earlier, no access to my online account at allfor about 6 weeks. Had to go to old branch to sign lots of forms to get access to my funds and get a debit card. No comunications by phone or email from Bankia. When my debit card arrived it needed unblcoking, despite my being told in the branch that it would be OK with my PIN. Called unblocking number, but it didn't recognise my pin and put me through to a person who asked many security checks, then told me I'd given a wrong answer but wouldn't tell me which question i'd got wrong, and that I'd have to go to the bank to unblock my card (approx 1700 km from my home in the UK). This is the bank that charged me over 500 euros in the last 12 months for signing a couple of cheques. These people are incompetent liars and thieves, is there no banking regulator in Spain? Anyone know a proper spanish bank where I can access my funds, pay bills etc?
Bankia service is Fatal
Bankia service is Fatal, awful. Waited an hour in the local Bank, only to be fobbed off and told to go to another branch I've never been to.
When a Complaint form was requested to denounce the service ... magically a new online account was created to access our money.
However, the online login doesn't work and English links and the telephone numbers provided either don't work or cut you off. Very worried by the experiences of 86% of customers who rate the Bank as bad and other users who complain the Bank fails to respond to emails etc. will have to reduce monies to minimum on account, certainly providers of an unacceptable experience.
