No Epubs - only Adobe DRM books and PDFs

I wanted to avoid Amazon for an Epub book for my kindle, saw that they had Epubs and thought I was onto a good thing.
Turns out the epub download link actually downloads some kind of Adobe file that only a new Adobe app will open and there is no way to get an Epub that will work on a Kindle.
This information needs to be much clearer, both on the product page and they should stop calling them Epubs and start calling them Adobe files.

I'm sorry you had this trouble. Although the format of the ebook is technically EPUB, it's encrypted. Our customers do need to download and install a piece of free software in order to read our ebooks.

I will ask our dev team to change the wording we use, to make it clearer that this is the case - especially in relation to Kindle.

I think I'm right in saying that all Amazon's ebook competitors are in the same boat here; most mainstream publishers require us to encrypt their ebooks as an anti-piracy measure. But that creates obvious issues with interoperability.

EBooks.com is the best ebook store on the planet,bar none!! All of the books purchased can be downloaded to your PC desktop and side loaded to your e-reader. Ever since Amazon stopped the ability to download to your PC on February 26, 2025 I have been searching for an ebook seller that would allow you to download to your PC desktop. Look no further that eBooks.com and did I mention the prices are very reasonable? Search no further! eBooks.com is second to none!!!

Easy to find the book I wanted

Easy to find the book I wanted, easy to pay and download. Font increases to 200% which is not large enough on a phone for people with vision issues. Although font can be changed and background colour can be changed to make words more easy to see. Pagination could be better too many words running over into the next line but otherwise ok

Submit button issues to create a ticket with CS

seems like the submit button to create a ticket with the support team did not work on the website. After reaching out to eBooks.com via email, they were super helpful.

It is really concerning that on Trustpilot eBooks.com can answer within the same day, but when I created a ticket directly from my profile to have my issue addressed last week (related to

Very easy to use website

Very easy to use website, purchase was quick, as was the download.
After adding an item to my basket it would be useful to be sent back to place where I was in my search instead of back to the start of my search.

too much work for such a price, not reader-friendly

I wanted to find an alternative to amazon, which is really needed. I cannot download my e-books and read them without being forced to download their own reader. All ebooks are purchased at the same price as the print, the font is small, zooming in makes it blurry and is a feature not always available. the pages take time to load and if I want to go back, the pages are blank and more loading is necessary. using an oly kindle is not possible. all in all terrible experience. I am going back to paper books and unfortunately amazon for some that I can't get at my local bookstore, but this website is just too much work at such a price.

Poor Business Practice

I don't recall subscribing to this site; however, I have been charged $49.00 on my credit card. I obtained their telephone number through my bank and called them THREE times, explaining the situation and requesting a refund. They said the same thing three times: We will issue you a credit, which will take about 7-10 days. Today is April 10th, and I haven't received anything. The gal I had spoken with this morning was cocky and very rude. I didn't get to finish what I was saying, and she hung up on me. Is this what you call business etiquette? By the way, I have called them on January 31, February 11, and today, April 10th.

Poor reader quality and no response to support request

I'm another person who has regretted purchasing with ebooks.com due to the VERY clunky interface offered by both the online and downloaded readers.
The downloaded reader is especially terrible.
The interface and page viewing functionality are poor, and it claims to provide a search function, but it doesn't actually work.
I can also now no longer read a purchased book using the online reader (I keep getting an error message that I've tried to download the book too many times, which makes no sense!). I've followed the FAQ advice to resolve this with no success and have now contacted support twice but have not had any acknowledgement or response.

We should organise a full refund. Please write to us at reading@ebooks.com and we'll get that done pronto. Include the email address that you signed up with (in case it's different from the one you're writing to us from).

We'll also look into what went wrong with your reading experience, to apply necessary remedies.

Right now we're working on a totally new reading experience for desktop, mobile and streaming, which will be launched later in the year. Hopefully that will mean an all-round better reading experience for our customers.

I am running an experiment

I am running an experiment, can I de USA myself as I am one of the people who fears the worse. I read ebooks, I now read on a non USA app at the moment using android but thinking of going Linux when I work it out. Where do I get my books from, eBooks dosn't fly the flag but at least they don't seem political, they still charge the same. A step forward.
