Aparently my long haired dog is 100% pitbull terrier.. when I called and suggested it was wrong they told me they were very confident in their lab work. Complete scam. I wish I could upload a picture of my dog on here to show you how inaccurate this result is.

Results are for 3 generations only and did not provide the answers we were looking for

I purchased the Embark DNA kit because it was one of the few that tested for Carolina Dog, which we believe our dog is. The DNA test goes back 3 generations, and the results came back as American Pitbull, Pomeranian, and Shepherd. However, our boy also had an extremely high "wolfiness" score of 20 (Embark states that most dogs are 5 or less). The “wolfiness” score is not really explained very well, and there are no definitive results as to what makes up the score other than it has something to do with past generations. I wish more information had been included about this part of the test because our boy exhibits many of the features, mannerisms, and behavior of a Carolina Dog (aka American Dingo).

Very good service and detailed results

Very good service (I sent my swap back from the Netherlands and was helped by customer service a lot).
Detailed results on the DNA and health of my dog came back earlier then predicted. I recommend Embark!

I have been waiting 8 months for…

I have been waiting 8 months for results on my TWO dogs. I’ve written them 3-4 letters & no response regarding test results. I have tried calling them & all I get is “there employees are tied up w/ other customers.” Personally, I wouldn’t have given them a one except I couldn’t have written this review! They must not want to stay in business. I’m really upset w/ this company:(

If I could rate this company zero stars I would.

If I could rate this company a zero stars review I would. One star is too generous. I did not fill out any breed info or coloring before sending in his DNA testing kit. I was hammered by emails asking me to fill in his info prior to receiving the DNA test for analysis. The only thing I provided was his vet information. Within 6 hours of registering my DNA testing kit, Embark emailed me saying how accurate their DNA tests were for husky parents. Almost 5 weeks and $200 later, I get the results back. Embark says my dog is 100% husky, and should max weigh at 65lbs. Problem being he isn't a husky at all. Kona is a malamute mix who weighs in at 94lbs. He has the big block head, widely spaced ears, tail curves over his back, feet the size of diner plates, and big stocky chest and legs. He's a poster dog for a malamute, but people swear he is part Akita. My Kona is a BIG dog. At least be honest and say we don't have enough DNA to test, or incomplete results and requires a new test. But don't scam me of my time and money for a result that isn't remotely true. I called Embark and was told to call back tomorrow. There is no husky on earth that weighs 94lbs. I don't think Embark even ran the test at all. I think they called my vet (who has Kona's chart written down as a husky mix) and they pocketed my $200 and had me wait 5 weeks for absolutely nothing. They couldn't tell me the coloring, age. And said Kona tested negative for all problems, yet he was diagnosed with some of these conditions by a very experienced vet from extensive testing that took months to complete. DO NOT BUY THIS TEST!!! It's a scam.

Definitely save your money

Definitely save your money. The whole reason I wanted a dna test was to see if my boy was an Isabella! We’ll embark assured me that he IS! Based off his dna results the bully community said they’re (embark) sorely mistaken and the community reached out to them for correction. I requested my money back as I cannot trust them or their results! I wanted to go somewhere more reputable. Hard to do when these embark tests cost me over $300! They refuse and tell me that the colors keep changing and they can’t be responsible for LYING to me smh. It doesn’t keep changing they’re just stupid!

Results 100% correct.

I didn't upload any pictures or any breed info. My Lola is a golden retreiver and her results came back as 100% Golden Retreiver. Embark know what they are doing when it comes to breed detection. Very happy with the results and the communication.

Scam company Worst experience possible

Worst experience possible. Jist.like many others stated. This company is a scam. Gave me the same runaround about automatically having swab forwarded which is a lie. If Us postal service says delivered they're not.forwarding anything. I asked for.the physical address to send small claims.summoms and md was given a Boston address that isn't embark at all. I tried to file a claim with the Better Business Bereau and cant even find Embark noted.Save your money and use another company. It may be longer return timee.but as least it's real. Note that Emnark is estimat3d at 75 million dollars. How.does a company this size scam so many people

Don't bother

The first swab, after 3 weeks in their 'lab', had insufficient DNS. They sent a replacement swab and the results, 2 weeks later, showed NIL of the breed and breed traits our vet had informed us of. A total waste of time and money

Embark is a complete and total scam!!

Embark is a complete and total scam!!! Don’t throw away your money. We submitted a swab of our purebred dog. We left the breed blank on the questionnaire (That’s what we are paying Embark to tell us). We get the results back that our pup is 40% chihuahua, 22% min pincher, 20 % small poodle and the rest super mutt. We were stunned that Maltese was not any part of her report as clearly she and her parents are. Embark is a fraud, and they refused to refund us. I wished we would have checked this site before getting scammed by them.

Save your money and AVOID this company

Save your money and AVOID this company. Extremely disappointed. Results provide no information that you couldn't already tell by simply looking at the dog. Total waste of time and money, and customer service rep has no remorse whatsoever. They know they are running a scam and are going to continue right on doing it.

Highly recommend!

Process was easy and they kept me updated every step of the way so I knew where my swab was in the process. I bought Embark because they have invested the most in the research and are making new health discoveries all the time so I know I'm always getting the best advice for the care of my dog. My dog was at risk for 2 conditions which I immediately discussed with my vet and we put a care plan together. I did Wisdom Panel in the past and the results were really off base, the experience was clunky, and there was zero customer service.

I activated the swab

I activated the swab, it was sent and tracked in their preaddressed/stamped envelope. Tracker said received 11/4 I checked my account on 11/10 still not showing received. They said they would send out a new one. The next day I received 2 emails one stating a new one was mailed and one stating they received the original one and processing it. After multiple emails with no answers and multiple days of calling and leaving a message(no one is ever available). I finally got someone on the phone and all they could say was they could not update my profile to show they are working on it, but to take her assurance all is well and they are processing the sample. They did give me a 20% discount, however, taking her word for it when received multiple emails stating received, not received, activated, not activated I am not reassured. We will see if the results come back....

I cannot recommend this company

I cannot recommend this company. They are so slow with processing the results. While waiting they send emails advising the next step. Honestly when you see the email you think you have the results only to be told another 3-4 weeks. It took nearly 2 months for them to admit they received the DNA. I emailed about the slowness of their processing and advised they re-routed my three samples to another lab. All around, the experience with this company has been poor and I would never recommend them.

The DNA sample lost in the mail

1. After having my first DNA test, I started receiving spammy emails from Embark which had links to a known unsafe (malware spreading) site. Even the "unsubscribe" link went to the 3rd-party site.

I ended up speaking to a manager who didn't seem to understand my concern (nor explain why Embark needed to engage in this dodgy practice, but Chewy, Rover, Wisdom, et. al. don't.). She seemed frustrated with me for raising the topic. [Edit: It appears they may not use that click-tracking service now.

2. My 2nd DNA test appeared to be lost in the mail after three weeks. I contacted Embark support to ask how long until we would say it's not happening, and they would send me another kit. (Just a simple inquiry, not accusative or frustrated.).

I received a canned response instructing me to "be nice" and that abusive language "won't be tolerated." That was quite off-putting (being lectured after spending $150 on a service I haven't received yet, and didn't even give any attitude about yet.). My initial thought was: "they must have a lot of unhappy customers if they have to draw that line from the start."

It turned out they switched their lap, and the mailing envelops included with the kit didn't have the correct address. It took a very long time for my test to reach the new lab.

The results were so-so. The two breeds making 86.8% were roughly the same percents as Wisdom Panel. However, Wisdom Panel broke down the remaining 13% with three other breeds. (Embark called it "supermutt.").

I like Embark's web interface better.

Embark lost my dogs DNA sample

Embark lost my dogs DNA sample. We sent in two at the same time and they processed one and lost the other. Embark takes absolutely no responsibility for losing the sample. It seems odd that a company involved in DNA test would be careless enough to lose a sample. How many samples do they mix up? The company seems like they may be a scam.

Would recommend genetic health screening for all dog owners

I've purchased a scottie puppy. Feeling a bit raw after loosing my gorgeous scottie Bonney in June of this year, way too young, I was keen to have genetic testing done on this pup so that if he has any genetic susceptibilities I am aware of them, can share them with the vets and look at monitoring him. I do realise that genetic testing on Bonney probably wouldn't have made any difference to her outcome. Testing a young pup was a little tricky. Trying to get the swab inside the cheek cavity was an invitation for him to chew on it and I must admit I sent it off half expecting to be told the sample wasn't suitable. Informed when the sample arrived (which was great as I'm a bit of a worrier about things being lost in the post) and kept in touch throughout by the company. Having arranged DNA testing on myself, my daughter and parents (with their consent) the time from sending the sample off and getting the results back was considerably quicker for the pup. Fortunately no genetic mutations were identified. Informed he was 100% scottie (no surprise there). I'd love to have had a bit more information about the genes involved in coat colour, that is my only disappointment. The family relations shocked me. My pup shares between 48 and 62% of DNA with the other scotties tested. Putting that in perspective he is genetically more closely related to some of those dogs, most across the ocean, than I am to my parents and daughter! My main interest was the genetic health tests - the rest is interesting and a bit of fun. The 2 tests may breeders of scotties do are for CMO and von Willebrand. There are separate place that do them and a blood sample is required. Embark cost me, from memory, around £150. Had I chosen to just test for the 2 conditions the tests would have cost £98, add to that vet fees for the blood tests, the trauma to the dog etc I think that the money I spent was at least equivalent of that I'd have spent going down the other route. More convenient and I got loads more information (4 breed specific tests and 204 others, and a few fun bits of information).
