I have no words to say how it is wonderful with Jonathan our guide. We could see beautiful animals even rare in amboseli as girafe crossing juste in front of us !!!
Jonathan is a guide since 19 years and he perfectly know where we have to go to see lion, girafe, éléphants…..

We are very lucky, safari with Jonathan was amazing, we saw the big five on the first day! Jonathan is very expierience safari guide, so I recommend this guy!

I was at maasai mara at Simba lodge for 3 days. I was happy I was able to see the big 4 and a lot of more wild animals, our driver guide Jonathan maina was so friendly, social, easy going, always on time and fun to be with.

We booked a safari with explorer kenya after being referred to us by a close friend, having travel with them before. We wanted one of their best guide Jonathan as well he was referred to us. Our safari was a fantastic one. We stayed at the mara simba lodge, in a very luxurious cabin over looking talek river where we could see hippos basking on the sandy banks of this river.
Jonathan our recommended guide was amazing too with stories of his past experiences with wildlife and he knew everyone and everywhere to find us animals.
This was the best safari and we never expected to see animals in a close range as we saw.
Our gratitude goes to Jonathan and explorer kenya safaris for being there for us and hosting us for a 3 day 2 night masai mara. Asante sana.

Our Maasai Mara safari with Explorer Kenya (Jonathan) was great!

We’re a traveling family with a 2 and 4 year old. Jonathan is a kind, knowledgeable person and made sure the kids were comfortable; they even slept during the game drives on bumpy roads.

We saw many animals and every game drive something special: a group of 20 hyenas feasting on a zebra, 2 leopards, lion couple, lions with cubs feasting on another zebra, a cheetah chasing gazelles and our daughter’s favorites, lots of (alive) zebras and giraffes.

The Simba Lodge was ok, but clearly low-season, the personnel at the restaurant were bored and tried to help in every way possible which was mostly annoying, overwhelming and not helpful at all. The lodge is not kids friendly, the pool is to cold and there are no other playgrounds/games.

What Jonathan doesn’t know about the Masaii region isn’t worth knowing. Not only has he been a fountain of knowledge throughout our safari but he has also been a pleasure to spend time with from the minute we met him at our hotel in Nairobi.

Jonathan made our game drives very enjoyable and we saw a lot of incredible animals due to his knowledge of the Masai Mara and ability to spot the animals hiding within the bushes. A particular highlight was watching a hyena hunt and kill a wilderbeast that he spotted from the distance and took us to see.

We specifically requested him as a result of our friend who highly recommended him as a guide and I would encourage others to request him for his breadth of knowledge and general politeness.

Absolutely no complaints from our side and when we return to Kenya, we will make it a priority to have him as a guide again.

Adventure of a Lifetime

Before coming to Kenya, I’ve been contacting several agencies, but must say that communication with Ibrahim was the best. He prepared perfect itinerary and was answering all the questions and requests I’ve been asking. They did take care of us from the very first minute we arrived to Nairobi till the final before departure.
We booked private 4x4 jeep safari, and we have been guided by Johnathan, who is truly the best of the best!!!
From the very first moment he was very friendly, attentive, communicative and we knew already we made the right choice. I can’t express enough how lucky we were while having him as a guide. Johnathan’s driving skills are trully amazing, he also knows everyone 😁 (especially rangers in safari which became very handy), he has very good knowledge on Safari, and he knows all the secret hidden places where the hardly spotted animals can be seen, and he simply do all the best to have the clients happy and satisfied. And so we are! Full of joy and emotions, full of adventures we never forget, and grateful for all we’ve seen and experienced. Thank you Explorer Kenya team, and thank YOU Johnathan for made our stay so amazing and brilliant.
P.S. That picnic in wild nature of Maasai Mara was the cherry on top of the cake ☺️

Safari tour guide is ultra important. He needs to be well experienced, swift, agile, sharp eyed, maneuvering the vehicle like Indiana Jones, positioning the vehicle for best viewing.
Jonathan is one such guide. Among all others, I find our Jeep always get to the right place with the best view. He even drives beyond scheduled time, without our request, just to find the gaming opportunity.

Our 12 people group were on Kenya Safari trip on 8/15-24, 2022, guided by Jonathan and James. They were nice, experienced and fun. Their professional training and sound expertise in guiding and driving have ensured an adventurous and safe Safari experience.

On the second day of the trip, we’ve already seen four of the big fives, lions , buffaloes , rhinos, elephants. They always know when and where to take us for the best angle and spot to observe the actions; they were very knowledgeable and explain all the natures , animals and plants, and answered all our questions. With their experience and patience we are able to see all big fives and so many more, beyond our expectations. Their game drives not only led us see the nature and animals, but also gain the knowledge, ex., the antelope family includes eland , kudu, topi, waterbuck, impala, gazelle and more ! We have taken so many breathtaking game photos, videos, and group pictures 😃.

Jonathan and James were always on time everyday for all events. When we were late arriving at the airport, James waited for two hours outside the terminal until we came out.

Their passion for work and servicing customers has left great impression to our whole group. We highly recommended them, and are confident that with Johnathan and James as your guides, you’ll have a very happy, adventurous, and safe safari trip.

We, a group of 12 friends and families, just finished our amazing 8 day Kenya safari trip with the Explorer Kenya. It has totally changed our view of the East Africa, beyond any words that we can use to describe its beauty. Out in the wild Masai Mara, in addition to countless wildebeests and zebras, we saw lions, mom cheetah with her four babies, tree top resting leopard, buffaloes, hippos, elephants, giraffes, hyenas, gazelles, impalas, and many many more. Not to mention black and white rhinos in Oplejeta conservancy, and millions of flamingos in Lake Bogoria. All of these were made possible because of our wonderful guides Jonathan and James. They are very professional and knowledgeable, with a combined over 35 years of experience, there is no animals here they do not know! They are always multitasking - listening to their radios for possible nearby animals and answering our questions. As soon as they heard an animal whereabouts that we haven’t seen, they speeded up our vehicles to take us to the place right on time. When we were unsure, Jonathan would tell us to be patient so we didn’t have to miss what we came here to see such as zebras crossing. Not only can Jonathan spot on animals that we need to use binoculars to see, he is also a great photographer - he taught us how to get the best photos.

We are so lucky to have Jonathan and James as our guides and would like to recommend them to anyone who wants to come to Kenya, to see its beauty in you own eyes !!

I cannot recommend Explorer Kenya more highly. The drivers, Jonathan and Joseph, were excellent. They made sure we saw four of the big five, while showing respect for the animals. We were lucky enough to see lion cubs, a hyena kill, cheetah, a leopard and an aborted river crossing by migrating Wildebeeste, They could answer our questions, from type of bird to animal behaviour. The camp, Ashnil, is set on a bend in the Mara River with hippos in the water below and bushbuck wandering by the restaurant. The service is attentive, the food good, the tents spacious and comfortable. Plus, there is a pool where you can shake out the game drive cramps and the kids can play. It was all we wanted for our family safari - and more. Above all, as Jonathan said, the Mara is a paradise. It was a privilege to be here.

Great experience with Jonathan during a week in July 2022. I was with my parents, my sister and my girlfriend and we spent some magic times with the best guide, for sure. He always tried and succeeded to show us the best animals and the best views in Amboseli Park, Nakuru Lake, Naivasha Lake and Masai Mara!
I recommend Jonathan! He has always been perfect with us with a great knowledge of the different animals and of all the roads of the parks by heart!

We had an amazing experience with Explorer Kenya. It was so simple to deal with the team and make bookings, change dates and organise activities. Everything was taken care of and went so smoothly. Once on safari, Samuel was a great host and his knowledge and positivity made the trip extra special. All of the accommodation in Aberdare, Nakuru and Mara were so welcoming and comfortable. Couldn't have asked for a more exciting and luxurious trip. We planned a once in a lifetime holiday, but now we know we will be back again!

Our guide and Driver Jonathan did a fantastic job. He was patient with our small daughters, a good and safe driver.
In the parks he knows many persons and all the places. This knowledge and his love for photography helped us to spot and click everything we dreamed for from close range: Lions, Cheetahs, Leopards , Elephants, black and white Rinos, Hypos, Buffaloes, Giraffes, Crocodiles, Impalas, Zebras and many more.

We have just finished a 3 night, 4 day safari of the Masia Mara, staying at Mara Simba Lodge. We were collected by Jonathon from our accommodation in Nairobi and started the 5 hour journey to the national park.

This is our second safari (the first being in Tanzania) and we can’t tell you how important it is to have a passionate and friendly guide. Jonathan knew every spot to head to, all the rangers we came across and the other drivers, this meant he had a constant supply of information allowing us to see everything (Lions, Cheetahs, Elephants, hippos etc!) He’s also a very passionate photographer so was always looking for the perfect shot. He has being coming to the Masai Mara for 19 years so his knowledge of the area and the animals was highly valuable to the experience.

Kenyan Adventures were very accommodating and were very efficient when it comes to communication. We booked this trip prior to Covid and had to cancel and rearrange multiple times, Robert and the team were very helpful in allowing us to pick new dates. We cannot recommend this company enough!
