Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 70 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people felt misled, believing they were booking directly with a hotel through what appeared to be an official website, only to discover they were using a third-party site. This often led to unexpected and significantly higher prices due to additional fees and taxes that were not clearly disclosed upfront. Customers frequently reported issues with the booking and cancellation processes, with many finding it difficult to cancel reservations without losing the full amount or incurring substantial cancellation fees. Some also experienced reservations being cancelled without their instruction or found that their reservations were not properly communicated to the hotels, leading to further complications and overcharges.

TERRIBLE, FRAUDLENT, SHOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS.

TERRIBLE. FRAUDULENT. SHOULD BE OUT OF BUSINESS.
It's not clear that this company is a 3rd party booking company on hotel sites. Their making money on cancelation and change fees only.
They do have an 800 number but it goes offshore, and then if you want to make any changes to your reservation (not canceling), they want to charge you more money than the actual room fee. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Getaroom does not deserve the one star…

Getaroom does not deserve the one star I gave them. Like others I booked a room thinking it was directly with the Holiday Inn Express. When I realized I booked the wrong date I immediately called a reservation number at the bottom of their page to change the reservation by one day. The agent said they could not do that and the only way to change the reservation was thru the hotel itself which was not the case. Fair Warning stay away from this crooked third party booking agent.

Deceptive Trade Practices

My husband made a booking on this website thinking it was the real hotel website ! They copied the look and even domain name. The wrongful website was royalhorsguard.guestreservation .com while the real website is royalhorsguardhotel .com !
Unhelpful customer care, impossible to reach a real person when you call and if you cancel, you lose the entire money. Our booking was 547USD on top of which they added 263USD without even announcing these fees when we booked from our phone. It is after pressing the "Pay" button that you discover the full amount. This is totally deceptive trade practices. I will still look for a way to resolve thi.

AVOID AVOID AVOID

AVOID AVOID AVOID

I made the mistake of clicking on what seemed to be the official hotel website and made a booking for two nights.

The price I saw was comparable with what was quoted when I compared it with another booking site. My mistake was that the other site quoted for the 2 nights and this one quoted a nightly rate even though I had typed in the duration of stay for 2 nights.

As the quote for payment was in local PHp currency, I did not check the total amount before giving my credit card details.

My utter shock occured when I reveived the confirmation with the converted amount in USD$. It was double the amount on the other booking website and the official hotel website that I subsequently found.

I phoned my credit card company explaining that I felt that I had been scammed because of the deceptive appearance of getaroom.com but they informed me that while the payment was still pending, it could not be stopped because of the 'not refundable' terms of the transaction.

Having read the reviews on Trust Pilot, I cancelled the booking believing that getaroom.com would issue a refund as they had advertised 'the lowest price available policy'.

When I phoned customer services at getaroom.com, they said that they would not refund me according to their terms and conditions. I then asked if they would reverse the cancellation and was told that it was not possible.

So if you have been scammed by this organisation, it looks like you will still get to stay in the hotel for double the usual price BUT if you cancel it, you will have lost your money and have nowhere to stay. Therefore AVOID.

Getaroom is a scam - report them!

Getaroom is a scam, don’t book! You think you book on the hotel’s website, see the room rate and only when you enter your credit card details they have tiny print in light grey that actually mentions a totally disproportionate “tax recovery charge and service fees” - in our case 52% of our hotel booking! Only when the credit card amount was taken off my card (they don’t show the total amount), I noticed this. Too late. Messages them twice, second time ‘Pelagio C.’ reacts as follows:

“…this charge includes the estimated amount we pay to the hotel in connection with your reservation for taxes owed by the hotel including, but not limited to sales and use tax, occupancy tax, room tax, excise tax, value added tax and/or other similar taxes.

In certain locations, the tax amount may also include government imposed service fees or other fees not paid directly to the taxing authorities but required by law to be collected by the hotel. The amount paid to the hotel in connection with your reservation for taxes may vary from the amount we estimate and include in the charge to you. The balance of the charge for Taxes and Fees is a fee we retain as part of the compensation for our services and to cover the costs of your reservation.”

The hotel confirmed that they are not charging any fees and in the EU there are no taxes that the email refers to. The fee was written in such way that it goes against the EU digital transparency rules. This is a total fraud site and I will report them to the authorities. Report them too, they need to be taken down!

They are a total scam

They are a total scam. Do not put your card details into this website. They will charge you more than the quote and they will never return the money.

I personally clicked cancel once I saw the amount they were trying to charge me, but the cancel button actually charges you as well. Avoid

*AVOID Getaroom.com

*AVOID Getaroom.com - EXORBITANT FEES AND POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

I recently booked a room through and was shocked by the excessive fees they tacked onto my booking. But that was just the beginning.

When I needed to cancel my booking, I called them within minutes of making the reservation. They assured me that they'd be happy to refund my money if the hotel agreed. I contacted the hotel directly, and they confirmed they would cancel without any fees.

Despite having written evidence from the hotel stating no fees would be charged, they refused to return my money. They slapped me with a staggering $750 cancellation fee.

The communication was appalling, and their customer service was unhelpful. It's clear that they prioritizes profits over customer satisfaction.

*BEWARE OF THE FOLLOWING:*

- Excessive fees added to bookings
- Difficulty getting refunds
- Poor communication
- Unhelpful customer service

*DO NOT USE Getaroom.com Instead, book directly with hotels or reputable travel websites.

*UPDATE:* I'll be taking my business (and my review) to social media, travel forums, and consumer protection websites to ensure others avoid this company's predatory practices.

Do not book on this site

Do not book on this site, it's a rip-off. was booking a room in a hotel, this site looks as if you're booking on the actual hotel site. It offers rates a fraction cheaper than other sites, when you have filled out your booking, they add an extra 50% for themselves in tiny print. Can't cancel or get a refund.

Total rip off

I booked a room with getaroom.com and cancelled 5 days prior to visit. Was told no refund. I was mislead by website because I wasn't booking with hotel directly and I never go through 3rd parties. On line portal doesn't state no refunds. Plan to contact Better Business Bureau concerning my experience. The only service they provide is defrauding customers.

Reviewing this here isn't going to help…

Reviewing this here isn't going to help anyone. They create sponsored links that look similar to or exactly like the official links. You book and later find out that they've charged you above what the listed price was plus about $110 of taxes on top. Further, you can't get a refund because contractually they've excluded it.

I agree with all below

I agree with all below. They would not reinstate a booking I cancelled in error 10 minutes previously. I dealt with The Burlington Hotel directly in the end who were very helpful. Lesson learnt I will go direct in future.

Getaroom is awful

Just like everyone else has said. I realized my error when I booked and tried to get them to cancel within 10 mins of my booking. They upcharged the room 56% vs the state room price calling it "taxes and fees". So mad at myself. Have contacted the Better Business Bureau and Hilton. Do not use Getaroom

These bogus reviews of resolved issue…

These bogus reviews of resolved issue are fake. They owe me $2650 for a booking that they refused to cancel 5 minutes after I completed it and realized it was in us funds (not clear on their site). They don’t resolve issues. The hotel cancelled right away but not them. I have been through 3 avenues and still won’t refund. Even the better business bureau got a response saying it was non refundable. Now I have contacted multiple media people in order to publish story and warn others. I am also contacting a lawyer who is investigating. They don’t back down. This represents 3 years of saving for my sister and I who are seniors. Now we won’t be able to realize our dream of seeing the blue jays in spring training. Be aware that they use front sites that look like the hotel like best western.com. Call the hotel and book yourself or use a reputable booking agent like Expedia. These DONT resolve their issues.
