apparently had an Ingo Money account…
apparently had an Ingo Money account already, but I had never actually used it to cash a check before. When I received a legitimate $402.78 class-action settlement check, I specifically chose Ingo because they advertise the ability to cash checks through the app with “Money in Minutes.”
This was literally my first time using the service to cash a check. After I submitted it, the app showed “Money in Minutes” with an estimated availability time of approximately 10:23 AM, about 15 minutes later. Instead of receiving the money, shortly afterward I opened the app to find that my entire account was being closed.
The only explanation I received was a screen saying that, “after careful review” of my most recent transaction, my account exceeded their “risk criteria,” along with an A10 error code. There was no meaningful explanation of what supposedly made the transaction risky, why my account needed to be closed, or what I had allegedly done wrong.
What makes this even more frustrating is that I then deposited the exact same $402.78 check through BankMobile. They accepted it without issue. It successfully posted the following morning, and a substantial portion of the funds was immediately made available to me.
I understand that a check-cashing service can decline a check it doesn’t want to process. What I don’t understand is advertising “Money in Minutes,” allowing a first-time customer to submit a legitimate check, and then responding by closing their entire account with essentially no explanation when another financial institution subsequently processed that exact check without a problem.
The experience was confusing and frankly insulting. If Ingo could not accept this particular type of printable settlement check, they could simply have declined it and explained why. Closing my account and vaguely labeling the transaction a “risk” instead was an extreme response to my very first attempt to use the service for exactly what it advertises itself as doing.
