Lovely books, poor customer service and high costs
Delightful shop, delightful books. So I ordered seven on line as I don't live near one of their two shops.
Full price is £18 each but you get a discount for every multiple of three. Then - postage. £3 PER book as they are posted separately. Irrespective of how many you buy. I accepted their policy, as was stated on their web site under Terms. They said it was to make sure that the books could go through a letterbox one by one.
A box of books turns up. I'd been charged £21 for postage. For a box. Thankfully I've got a mailbox.
I queried £21 postage for a box delivery. Let's just say the attitude was so bad I'll never buy from Persephone again. Apparently they post six or more books in a box (they've amended their web site now) but still charge £3 per book. That's steep on top of an expensive paperback anyway.
The next day I discussed my experience with a group of friends who are bibliophiles. I'm afraid they agreed with me. Sorry Persephone.
