Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 91 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers found the app and website to be largely unusable, citing constant lagging, freezing, and general malfunction across various devices. The user experience was frequently criticized for being difficult to navigate, with many reporting issues with basic functionalities like pausing, skipping, or even signing out of accounts. A significant number of people were also dissatisfied with the marketing strategy, feeling that the platform had become overly focused on ads, which were described as intrusive, frequent, and excessively long, often ruining the viewing experience. However, some customers noted that despite the issues, certain products offered good playback quality and a decent selection of titles, particularly for those interested in older or less common content. Conversely, a small portion of people also felt that the platform, in its earlier days, provided a smooth and reliable experience for managing personal media libraries across multiple devices.

So I installed this on my Firestick to…

So I installed this on my Firestick to watch "A Stone Cold Christmas", which is one of my favorite Holiday movies ever. This movie is extremely hard to find, but finally found it on Plex Tv. Played fine until the last 30 minutes which is the best part and the movie ends. Not happy with this being it's my time using the app.

Thumbs down

Plex is terrible. Doesn't work on any of my devices. Tried all the published fix it's. Temporary cures only. The only thing I could get to work at 15 minute stretches only was the live tv, and even then it played with captions which I had to stop myself, show headers that would appear. Awful service. After one week, I give up on it.

Absolutely disappointing experience

Absolutely disappointing experience. The app constantly lags, freezes, and often doesn’t work at all. Streaming should work on every TV under the same account, but it doesn’t — sometimes it plays on one device and completely fails on another. It’s frustrating and unreliable. For a service that’s supposed to make streaming easy, Plex has been a total letdown.

Finished with PLEX - Switched to Emby

New app for ROKU is terrible. Users have quit using PLEX because it is now too difficult to navigate. Theme music no longer works. Old app worked great, so PLEX completely changed that. Absolutely no way to get support from PLEX.

Plex is literally unusable, no exaggeration

I just tried opening the Plex app on my Roku and somehow it's already signed in to a random stranger's account. Not only is this an alarming lapse in security, it renders the app 100% unusable.

I need to sign out of the stranger's account so that I can log into my own. But in order to do so, I need to enter a PIN, which I can't possibly know because it's not my f&@%# account. Uninstalling and reinstalling the app doesn't make a difference—it still connects to the stranger's account. So I am effectively locked out of the app, indefinitely, and there's nothing I can do about it since there is zero customer support.

Fix your authentication so that random accounts don't get mixed up. Fix your user interface to allow the very basic minimal functionality of *signing out* at any time. And why not try to start providing *any* kind of customer support? It might help you avoid 1-star reviews.

The new Roku Plex app sucks

The new Roku Plex app sucks. They took a perfectly functioning interface and ruined it. Lots of bugs, but even if the bugs get fixed the user experience is still horrible. What used to take 1 or 2 clicks now takes 8 to 10 clicks. The side menu is gone in favor of a top menu that takes many more clicks to get where you want to go. The old side menu could be accessed from anywhere in the app, for the new top menu you have to go back to the main screen. What was once a perfectly function interface is now ruined. Going to start investigating Ember and Jellyfin as a replacement for Plex since Plex ruined the user experience.

Old stuff and slim pickings

Not a huge library of movies, so I can’t really recommend it. Most of what’s on there feels pretty old or titles you’ve probably never heard of. But...if you’re into digging through the vault and checking out the hidden stuff, then maybe it’s worth a spin.

Plex forced logout, now I have nothing. I actually paid for this rubbish!!!

I've had a one off paid for Plex account for years and it has worked just fine. Last week Plex announced a security breach and asked for me to sign out of all my devices, which I did. When I signed back in all of my carefully procured local library files had gone. These took years to get. I have spent days and days on forums to try to reclaim my server. I've used my IP address with the suggested extension, deleted my server pc as an authorised device, changed my password, signed up with a different email, uninstalled and reinstalled Plex server, regedit keys.............you get the point. When I try to add my media there is NO reclaim button ANYWHERE, there is NO SET UP WIZARD. ARRRRRGH!!!!!! You get the point. Plex also has no means of contact for support, NO LIVE CHAT, NO CONTACT NUMBER, NOTHING. Days and days of trying has now come to an end. Plex has been removed from any device I ever owned, good riddance, and Emby has been installed. Emby actually works. Give me my money back Plex cos you're RUBBISH. Hope you enjoy reading this review. Adiós

Pause no longer works, navigation no longer works, no excuse for a company that has been releasing a product for over a decade now to somehow not have any testing before release. honestly look for other options, both Emby and Jellyfin are superior options.

Last straw for Plex, time to DUMP PLEX.

I have been a Plex user for many years, last night it unilaterally without consent or authorisation completely changed the user interface making it virtually unusable on my Roku 4k Stick.

I cannot find any means to reverse this FORCED UI change online, so I went to the Plex Forum only to be greeted with

"Unfortunately, your browser is unsupported. Please switch to a supported browser to view rich content, log in and reply."

I tried Firefox, Brave and Opera, Plex will not support ANY of them.

What kind of organisation blocks a large part of it's users in this way?

I guess the kind of organisation that allows itself to have a 1.4 star rating on Trustpilot, with no attempt to engage it's users.

It is bad enough that Plex keeps removing features from Plex and making them PAID options. Why would anyone pay money to be abused in this way.

I was actually considering using a paid option of allowing me to share my Plex library with family and friends, but now they want £250 for this, they must be smoking something if they think people will pay this kind of money.

I knew that Plex has created a new mobile phone UI that was really upsetting huge numbers of it's users, people were saying they needed to roll back, others said they should drop the update and that they did not understand the concept of sunken cost accounting.

It seems that the time has come to dump Plex and move to one of the alternatives, the most popular seems to be Jellyfin I think, that might be a bit complex for me but what choice do I have when the product I installed and loved has been ripped away from me and replaced with utter garbage.

Plex do not listen and they do not care, they need to roll back, sack their developers, roll back the charges and features. If they did that I might have bought a lifetime Plex pass.

Oh and as if this was not enough Plex sent me an email telling me that they got hacked

"Notice of a potential security incident"

"What happened "

"An unauthorized third party accessed a limited subset of customer data from one of our databases. While we quickly contained the incident, information that was accessed included device type, emails, usernames, and authentication data"

They say I MUST change my password but guess what, I can't change my password because they do not support my browser.

In fact, Someone may have already used my data that they allowed to be stolen.

If they at least rolled back the forum to support the browsers that they supported a few months ago I might actually be able to change my password and get some support.

So much work, so little time. Sadly I can see where this is going, A few extremely loyal users will still support them but the vast majority will dump them. Then they will be forced to dump the decent staff because goodness knows they seem reluctant to fire the group responsible for this UI "experience" change.

It honestly makes me really sad to see a trusted organisation make decisions that will cause it's demise.

New Roku app is unusable.

New Roku app is unusable.

The only way to contact plex is "Billing" or "Legal." Their "Technical Support" option tells you to go to the forums, to get help from other people that are having the same exact issue.

Plex staff and moderators of the forums have refused to respond to the massive amount of angry customers over a broken - not "different" - app. Their support page literally says:

"Technical Support
We’re unable to offer technical support by email. For help with issues you may be experiencing, we have a detailed support library, answers to common questions, friendly forums, and more."

Phishing scam

Got an email urging me to click a link and change my password because of a security breach. The problem is.... I've never even HEARD of them, was NEVER a customer, NEVER had an account. This screams "phishing scam" to me.

if there were a way to give negative…

if there were a way to give negative stars to this app there wouldn't be enough room on one page for how many i'd give it. who ever runs it is so effing greedy they load a movie with so many effing commercials it's barely watchable. don;t waste your time with this app. watch roku or tubi instead. much less downtime.

I would give negative stars if i could

I would give negative stars if i could. Same problems like 15 years ago. you can skip ahead the movie because if you do it will block and it won't stream anymore from your library. Even my 20yo portable hard drive handles better than this crap
Do waste your time and save yourself the frustration.
