At Primal we are passionate about the outdoors and would love to share our knowledge of bushcraft and survival skills with you. We believe it’s best to have a few survival skills in your back pocket so you don’t get caught out when you need them most. Like our primal ancestors of old, living off the land and utilising skills to live in harmony with our surroundings was a natural way of life. In today’s fast paced environment we are dependent on technology more and more and have lost touch with our Primal Instincts and Hunter-Gatherer skills. So let’s get outdoors, as there’s no better way to learn than by doing.

Enjoyed a truly memorable weekend exploring a stunning uninhabited island learning about bushcraft and nature. Fishing, sailing, swimming, walking, sleeping in a castle ruin - brilliant. And the guides are exactly who you'd want them to be
... top guys!

I recently enjoyed an excellent day with my son at Primal Bushcraft and I would thoroughly recommend this activity to others.
Very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable staff contributed to the experience and we will definitely be looking for an opportunity to go on an extended experience next year!

Attended the Highlander Survival Skills course over a long weekend. Can't recommend it enough if you're interested in bushcraft, survival and some Scottish history and martial arts thrown in too!
All the instructors/guides were professional and enjoyable to spend time with. It was the perfect balance of enjoying the amazing Scottish forest, with a number of challenging activities too.
Personally some of the activities took me right up to my line, but that's the point right!?!
10/10 would do again and hope you do too.

I thoroughly enjoyed my weekend and the experience as a whole. All the guides were extremely knowledgeable and professional and were always ready to step in and give extra help to anyone when it was required. I wouldn't hesitate to book onto a similar course in the future and I'd certainly recommend the company to friends and family.

I recently took part in the Bushcraft and survival day with my husband. We both really enjoyed learning how to make shelters and having a go at making our own. It was really interesting to see how other had made there shelters also. My husband really enjoyed knife skills and how to make pegs for a tent and fire wood. We also got a chance to go for a small froiging walk that allowed us to learn about diffrent kinds of plants and there purposes. Of course the day would not be complete without being able to make our own kebab skewers and cooking meat on the open fire. To finish off the day we were shown how to make fire. I really enjoyed the day at duncarron, I would high recommend for all the family.
The people running the course were awesome and really friendly. They were very approachable and always encouraging.
My husband and I really enjoyed this day out and was totally diffrent to other things we had done before. I would highly recommend this experience to everyone.

My adventure in Bonny Scotland with Primal Bushcraft and Survival left me feeling rested, energised and high on life.
Time to reset the compass & take stock, learn new skills, make wonderful memories and nurture my zest for life.
Through activities such as fishing, sailing, making fire and stomping through the wilderness we explored new paths, enjoyed the simplicity of fresh coastal air, connected with mother nature and enjoyed the elements.
From staying warm cooried round the fire, sharing local food freshly caught or foraged, helping each other, laughing together and saying yes to new experiences our adventure helped us all to thrive.
We inhabited a castle ruin, slept under a starlight canapé, watched sunrise from a beautiful location, swam with seals, and played ball games with a beautiful backdrop. This all happened thanks to the primal bushcraft and survival team.
Memories & friendships we’re made, lessons learned and it was impossible not to leave with smiles on our faces.
The location, the brilliant organisation, the hospitality and the leadership from a skilled and positive team allowed all of this to be possible.
So often in life, thriving comes from stepping outside of our comfort zone and our world gets a little bigger.
We arrived as a group of strangers. We left the experience friends, a happy and topped up team, confident, and free and then we brought some of that expansiveness home & back into our lives... and that is simply priceless!!
Thank you so much for this experience 🙏

I booked on the 3 day Castaway trip and from the moment I arrived and met the team and other castaways I was made to feel very welcome and confident that the long weekend ahead would be fun, friendly and I would learn lots about survival. The team - Paul, Andy and Matt - were very knowledgable and passed this on in sessions including fishing, making fires, putting up shelters and foraging. They were very accommodating with our ideas and wishes for the weekend, we learnt lots about survival, we slept under the stars, explored the island, swam with seals and spent a day sailing. I couldn’t have asked for more. Getting back to basics in a beautiful location was such a wonderful experience, I would recommend it to anyone.

Brilliant day learning bushcraft and survival skills with the primal team! The instructors were really knowledgeable and were excellent at keeping my 9 year old and the other children there engaged.
Amazing setting too - we really enjoyed the day and I would def book another course with these guys.

What an amazing day. Took my 6 year old son on the Bushcraft and survival day course and I was worried that he would be bored with 6hrs of outdoor activities but he had a great time. He really was one with nature and Matt, Paul, Andy and Mark were all amazing with him helping him do ropes and letting him try out their own hammocks. They helped keep an eye on him too so that I could get involved with all the activities. All the team were extremely knowledgeable and made each part such fun as well as educational and I know we all learned some new skills. The whole day was so good that it's made me now want to take the little one camping soon. Thanks guys for a great day

I booked a course for two people (foraging walk) on the Primal Bushcraft website for a date that was listed on the information page for the course. After checking out and charging my credit card, I received no further information about the course or any instructions on how to reach the course location.
I emailed Primal Bushcraft about this and after a couple days (and sending another email), they responded with a rough explanation of where the course would be held and that more information would be sent closer to the course day.
A week before the course was due to occur, I received an email stating that the course was canceled due to no one else signing up. I found this highly unprofessional – I had paid for a product and experience, and was not aware that it was dependent on them generating enough interest. The impression I got was that it just wasn't worth their time if more people weren't coming.
They offered to keep my money (how kind) and simply allow me to come to another foraging walk at an undetermined time THE FOLLOWING YEAR as the weather was turning and more foraging walks wouldn't be scheduled.
Obviously, I asked for a refund instead. They agreed and said they would refund my money.
More than a week later, I was still waiting for that refund. I emailed them again and they apologized and implied they simply had not gotten around to it. After this exchange, they did process the refund.
This review was prompted by my looking at their website and seeing the same foraging walk I attempted to book still listed with a price of £50 per adult and "2020 dates coming soon." When I clicked on the course, it takes you to a page where the adult price is inexplicably listed as £30 instead and no dates are listed HOWEVER you are able to add the course to your cart and check out.
I think this is an incredibly unprofessional way to run a business and would be highly nervous about booking any other course with them, as who knows if it would even occur and when I would get my money back.
Note: this is a review of the booking and payment process. I can't comment on the Primal Bushcraft experience itself, which may be wonderful.

I had a great time on the Highlander course. It was a great couple of days, well planned and thought through. All in all, I'll be going back to do other courses with PB.
Amazing day learning wilderness survival. Guys are very knowledgable, friendly and a great laugh! Learning through fun is the way to go! Very useful skills - shelter building, knife work, water filtering and fire starting....and marshmallow toasting of course! Highly recommend and can’t wait to go on another course!
My friends and I spent a great weekend with Matt, Paul and the Primal Bushcraft team recently and can honestly say we had an incredible experience.
Camping under the stars, great food cooked on an open fire, a few drinks and a few songs with great company.
We were really well looked after, we learnt about ancient and modern ways of living off the Scottish land, hunting, cooking skills.
I’d 100% recommend you try them, we’ll be back again later in the summer!

Brilliant Day.
My nephew and I spent the day on The Bushcraft and Survival Course.
Our instructors were Paul and Iain, and their knowledge, presentation and help was great.
There is plenty of time to practice what we were told and shown, with subjects including shelter, fire, water, how to carve with a knife
and walks through the forest to find items useful in Bushcraft and survival situations.
Will definitely use the company again.

5 of us had a great day as part of our team building away day - would definitely recommend this! The staff (Paul and Luke) were extremely friendly, helpful and informative. We took part in archery, axe throwing, shelter building, knife skills and fire making in a 4 hour half-day session and were provided refreshments during this time.
We will definitely consider this for another away day!

My brother and I had been talking about doing a bushcraft course for years, and finally got round to actuallly doing it this month.
Didn't really know what to expect, but the team were really hospitable, v straightforward and were fun coaches.
By the end of the day, we'd: built emergency shelters, been given a tour of the forest for foraging and raw materials, taight how to use knives to craft our own wooden tools, made fire from kindling and hi-tech flint & tinder, and made our own pesto salad from wild garlic.
The guys knew their stuff, and Paul, Liam and Andy's attitude made for an enjoyable experience.
We're now planning on going back for further adventures, regardless of the weather!
I know these guys do corporate and kids events, but if you’re heading to Edinburgh for a stag do, just go ahead AND BOOK THIS!
Didn’t really know what to expect when we got there, and for sure some of the group were apprehensive about spending 6hrs outside playing boyscout. But honestly, Liam and Paul were both total legends making the whole thing a really fun and interesting day.
Liam gave us a tour of their knife collection, (which is epic!!) and showed us 20 ways to make fire. I’m not 100% sure he should be allowed on the bus with 30 knives, petroleum jelly, lipstick, glyscerin etc... but I’m glad he is!! Paul talked us through how to make shelters, snares and how to carve tent pegs. Finally they did a bushcraft edition of Delia Smith, helping each of us prep our own pheasants for lunch.
All super interesting and Liam and Paul were great sports and, to be honest, really funny guys making them great hosts for our stag group.
Icing on the cake was that they organised a few games of flunkyball to help us polish off the 60 random cans of beer that we’d ordered to our hotel from beerhawk.com the day before. (Knives were put away at that point!)
Thanks guys - really glad I took the punt and booked primal bushcraft!
Wear clothes you don’t mind getting wet, smokey and muddy. Bring beers for the afternoon!

Amazing weekend with Primal Buscraft on their Primal Bowyer course. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere with expert tuition and encouragement. Came away with a bow, some arrows, a lot of new knowledge and experience, and some great memories. Look forward to my next event with Primal.
