When we got in line, there were 2 agents at the counter - apparently both needed a break. It was 10:45 pm. One ignored all customers and walked out. There were 4 customers to be helped. Luckily, King... See more

Failed to refund bogus additional charge
After my rental was completed, Routes Car Rental made an additional charge to my credit card, giving the false reason that I had cancelled the reservation. Attempts to resolve the issue with Routes were met with delayed replies, off-topic irrelevant replies, and finger-pointing to the booking agency. Similar experiences are reported by other Routes customers on Reddit, some naming the same representative. After two months of trying and failing to get this resolved with them, I finally had to dispute the charge through my credit card company.
Absolute scam. They will double charge on insurance and other fees.
Absolute scam! They forced us to buy insurance and additional driver fee again totaling to about $900 at the counter when it was already paid to Economy Bookings. They refused to give us the car if we didn't buy the additional insurance. We are tourists and were stranded if we don't get the car as our accomodation was one hour away from the site. They said Economy Bookings would refund the money; however, Economy Bookings refused stating no accident claims were made. I will never book a car through them again and will advise everyone I know to be aware of this scam! Why would Route Car Rental partner with Economy Bookings if they don't accept their insurance? Is it to make money on both sides using the loop holes in contract to double charge on insurance and other fees per customer?

Routes car rental is a big scam
Routes car rental is a big scam. People do not use rental cars from routes. I booked the car from bookings.com for 4 days . It was 500$ total. Later when I reached their car rental office in fort Lauderdale FL, it was a big queue of people waiting to get the car rented since they were charging extra for the insurance even if people had their own insurance with good coverage. They added 252$ extra for me giving the reason as mu deductible is high which was 1000$. Apart from that they also kept a deposit of 300$ for any damages or tolls. Also there was big fight betwen two people in the queue due to one of them trying to get in the middle of the queue for which cops came and arrested the man. It was a scary situation. We waited for more than 3 hours in the queue after a whole night flight journey.
After when i returned the car, they charged 150$ more for the toll. Also booking.com took 50$ extra as a platform fee. Both bookings.com and Routes rental have a tie up to scam the people by taking extra money in various fees.
Terrible company
Terrible company. I prepaid £57 and had papers showing CDW theft protection TPL +++. At the Europcar desk they explained they had nothing but trouble with Routes and I was charged an additional £59 for Damage Waiver and Theft waiver. Europcar had no record of my prepayment from Routes. They said this always happens with Routes/Carla. Just book direct with Europcar and don't use these hopeless intermediaries.
We rented a mid size SUV through Armed…
We rented a mid size SUV through Armed Forces Travel (same as Priceline) to be included with a package travel deal. When we arrived, the wait time was okay. The car given was a small SUV which is what they said we had reserved. I specifically wanted a bigger SUV. So husband went back in and they were all to happy to upgrade to a vehicle that is a mid size SUV. We got a toll tag to use and maybe used it 4 days. They offered Collision insurance or Liability and we opted for Liability. Now they are saying we agreed to the vehicle upgrade, toll tag and Collision. Yes, we should have looked at the receipt when they handed it to us. But we were in a hurry and it was not explained that if we took the car that it would void the original terms and we would have to pay full price for the vehicle. DON'T USE THIS COMPANY.
Still angry a year later.

Bring a gallon of lube when you pick up your rental car. Needed to avoid significant damage as they ram their extra fees down your.... Um... Throat.
Poor rental cars
Hello,
The low rental prices attract you, but on the day of rental, the prices change and additional costs are incurred, so that the rental ultimately ends up being much more expensive than with a traditional provider. The vehicles are standard and offer no special features. In addition, the agency is located far from the airport, so you need another means of transportation to get there.
Absolutely the worst car rental company…
Absolutely the worst car rental company in history. Even though we bought all of the insurance ahead of time when we reserved the car they made us get more insurance at the counter and would not let us get the car without the added insurance. Bunch of thieves. At first they told us the extra insurance was $200 but when it was time to swipe my credit card, 10 minutes later, they said oh the taxes went up and it is actually $400 more. The car was garbage, banged up and barely accelerated. NO matter what you do do not rent from them.
Avoid this car rental agency
Terrible car rental agency with terrible cancelation policies. I have tried to cancel my reservation within 24 hrs. from the moment I’ve made it. Apparently, they have no change, no refund policy for the pre-paid reservation which was not disclosed while I was making reservation online. Instead, the online page still suggests that there is free cancelation within 24 hrs.
In order to process the cancelation of my reservation and to stop any possible further charges (like no show charge), I was charged $84.88 cancelation fee.
Do not use this rental agency ever. There are better options.
DONT rent from this scammers
Routes had a special to rent a Jeep for $81 for 3 days , we kept it for an extra day and we end up paying $423 with all the hidden fees. Ridiculous. Be aware of this scammers. STAY AWAY FROM THEM.
Thanks Carlos for the quick service.

No car for me…had to take an Uber
I took the chance with Routes Car Rental hoping to have a positive experience despite their concerning reviews. But I was so wrong. First, when I showed up on time at their Chicago Ohare counter with prepaid car reservation in hand, they did not have a car for me. They wanted me to wait 5 hours for when they expected a car to be ready for me. I had to take a $75 uber to get to my destination and messed up all of my travel plans without a rental car. And then they gave me a huge runaround with the dispute process which wasted more of my time to get my credit card refunded which happened over a month later. Unsatisfactory!
