Furious!

Furious!! Bought 2 pairs of flats and 2 blazers. One of the blazers is fake, pleather trash and one of the pairs of flats I paid $112 for and was advertised as new with tags. The tags were attached alright. With a price of 49.99?!?!?. I paid over twice the actual price they were bought for???? Disgusting! I will never buy from them again and will discourage anyone that is looking at buying from them. I am legitimately furious with everything being a scam anymore. Buy at your own risk! This is not the first time I’ve had a problem and I will never be able to speak kindly about a company that screws over their customers. Pure filth..

I was searching for shoes in a size 7

I was searching for shoes in a size 7. The pair that came up in my search was a size 10! The price was $23.99. Thredup wanted $3.99 fee and $10.99 shipping for return the item. For nine dollars and change, I'll throw them in the trash. RIDICULOUS. WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THEM AGAIN!

Lies and empty promises

They claim you can make 40% off of sold items. I was given 98 cents for brand new torrid jeans and 1.50 for a Marc Jacob's purse. Also many items (new or like new) were rejected without explanation and they met the company's guidelines. They are scamming everyone. Do not trust this company.

Donate your items instead

I have been selling through Thredup for several years now. They consistently failed to measure my items correctly. With one shipment, I included the measurements for each garment, but they ignored them. For example, I had a size 14 dress where they listed the bust measurement as 30. When I have seen this on items I considered for purchase, I would message them and ask for correct info, but all they would do is say they will forward request. I never got the correct information. Once I sent them a knee length off the shoulder dress that they listed as a top. When I bring the incorrect measurements and mislabeled situations to their attention, they blow me off. (Now I notice that they don't even mother to list the bust measurement on dresses anymore...at least not the half dozen or so I looked at recently.) I have sent them new with tags items (identical to ones they have currently listed at fairly high prices ($50-100) that they oddly deem unsalable. Other new with tag items fail to show that they are new and describe the fabric as having wear. I would never send them anything with wear, a stain, a hole, a rip, etc. Those items are not salable IMO and I would have discarded them myself. Over 3 years, I sent them about 500 items of which they listed 270 for a net return of $1110.80. That's ~ $4 per item on average, or ~ $2 an item if you figure in the ones they did not list. All of this stuff has been better brands like L.L. Bean, Levis, Talbots, Ann Taylor, Vera Bradley, etc. Is it worth the hassle? Honestly, I think it might be better to donate the stuff and take the tax deduction which would have probably amounted to about $800 per year. The batch they are working on now was a total of 26 items. 2 items have sold, 4 are pending sale, 5 have expired, and 12 were not listed at all. Of the 4 pending sale, one is a new with tag Nicole Miller maxi dress which they described as: 'Still has life left in it, but has visible flaws that may require repair. May be from a best-selling brand that is eligible for resale due to high demand. Inspection shows: light to moderate fading or discoloration.' the pattern on the dress is a multi color blurry design that they think is 'flawed' when in fact it is the way the fabric was printed and is not a flaw at all. I have found this same comment on other dresses for sale which tells me they are basically putting the same disclaimer on things to reduce returns for 'not as described'. All in all, I don't believe this company is well run and the people working there are not properly trained.

Thank you for your review and we are so sorry that your clean out did not live up to your expectations and that your items had listing errors. As far as payment, it’s important to remember that using our Clean Out service means that you may not earn as much as you would if you sold your items peer to peer. But what you may miss in earnings, you earn back in overall convenience. Our goal is to help make our customers’ lives easier by helping them get rid of unwanted items from their closets from the convenience of their own home. We'd be happy to look further into this and have requested additional information. We look forward to your response!

I should have checked the reviews…

I should have checked the reviews first. I sent in 15 items for resale. 1 item they could not sell and will donate. 11 items they could sell and 3 items (bought at the same place as the 11 items) aren't eligible and will donate. All items were brand new too.
The percentages they pay you are from 6.6% and 15.4%! I'll be lucky to get $20.00 back. NOT WORTH IT!!! I would have rather donated to someone here that needed them.

UPDATE: After my review they changed the clothing items they could sell from 11 to 5. Not sure you should let them know who you are if you don't want them to retaliate. This company should be band and shut down!

If I could give it zero stars I would

If I could give it zero stars I would. I have sent in 3 premium kits each with at least one HIGH end designer item. I'm talking Hermes, etc. EACH kit where I meticulously put the said designer item into a ziplop bag labeled and described was listed under assorted brands for pennies which I immediately flagged so as not to post for sale...and yet each miraculously sold within a day of being flagged. This most recent kit I sent TWO HERMES scarfs in and one is literally not listed nor in the going back home returned to you list, it's just gone. I am done and will be seeking legal advice at this point. Also if you're wondering I sent all kits at once otherwise I wouldn't have kept sending them in after such shady and illegal behavior. Don't send your stuff to them.

$150 Rescue Box Was Like Paying for a Donation Pile

Spent $150 on a rescue box and it was a complete miss. I understand the ‘mystery’ aspect, but this was mostly unsellable inventory—damaged pieces, low-demand brands, and items with little to no resale value. It honestly felt like paying to take out someone else’s donation pile. Would not recommend, especially for resellers trying to maintain quality inventory. Not a good fit if you rely on fast sell-through or need consistent, quality inventory. All but one item went to the trash. It was not even worth donating.

ThredUp is a scam…

ThredUp is either wildly disorganized or something far worse and at this point, I’m leaning toward the latter.

I sent in a Clean Out bag full of quality, name-brand items that I carefully selected. When they processed my bag, I was told multiple items were “rejected” and couldn’t be returned. The only “proof” I got? Ridiculously zoomed-in, cropped photos where you can’t even tell what the item is. No real explanation. No transparency. Just a vague excuse and a payout that doesn’t come close to the actual value.

Here’s where it gets interesting.

I later found one of my items, a hoodie I KNOW I sent in, listed on their site for $65. So let me get this straight: items are “unaccepted,” disappear, can’t be returned… but somehow end up for sale?

That’s not a process issue. That’s a trust issue.

And after digging a bit, I’ve seen other people describe the exact same thing happening to them. Items go missing, customers get unclear answers, and then magically those items show up for sale.

Customer service has been completely useless, just copy-and-paste responses that avoid the actual problem.

At best, this company is careless with people’s belongings. At worst, it feels like customers are being taken advantage of.

Either way, I would not trust ThredUp with anything you actually care about. Send your items here and don’t be surprised if they “disappear” and then show up for sale later.

We are truly sorry to hear about your experience with our customer service and our Clean Out Bag service. At ThredUp, we understand that it takes a great deal of trust for our sellers to send in their clothing, and we never want anyone to feel uncomfortable or dissatisfied with our process. While we wish we could accept a higher percentage of items from Clean Outs, we are only able to accept around 60% due to our quality standards and inventory needs. We strive to be as transparent as possible with all our sellers about this limitation in our selling guide. For sellers sending in items with significant monetary or sentimental value, our Consignment Premium option is always available. This option allows you to have unaccepted items sent back to you, so you can have peace of mind when sending in your clothing. Upon reviewing your case, we can confirm that our Customer Support Team has since resolved this matter with you via email. If you have any additional questions, concerns, or need further assistance, please feel free to reach back out to us at any time.

Extremely disappointing experience…

Extremely disappointing experience selling a bag of nearly new items--many never used. To have to pay for the bag, which is pretty small for a closet cleanout, along with the shipping fee, when the amount earned for never used items is mere dollars, is pretty insulting. What cemented my negative feeling about this company is the requirement to pay $5.99 to repurchase my items (never worn) that did not sell in a certain amount of time. Very bad business practice. I won't use ThredUp again. I would rather just donate to someone in need or sell via the NextDoor app than go through the hassle of selling a bag of near new items only to bank $17 in the process. No thanks.

They are wonderful

They are wonderful. I sent in now 6 bags most with tags. They have donated all but a hand full of items. They did get me 14.00 for a brand new with tags tag said 343.00 Michael kors purse. I guess I can use that for their fees. I thought it was better than buyers on ebay stealing stuff from you, however I believe they are one of the same.

Complete waste of time and money! You would probably do better by selling your clothing locally, or just donate them. Rip off

Rip off. They accepted only 7 of the 16 what i considered clean and in excellent condition clothing and got rid of the ones they didn't list. When one of the items did not sell I needed to pay $6 to have it returned and they claimed that if it had sold I would make only .72cents. This item cost over $60 new. My other items have not sold in over 30 days. I definitely won't sell with them again. As a matter of fact I won't buy from them either cause I'm really annoyed.

They steal your property and only offer $1 profits

They steal your property and only offer you a dollar for profits. Even if you pay extra to get your property back they keep the property that you don't want them to sell when they want to rip you off. They're just selling it anyway and they refuse to return your property. You are much better going to a thrift shop or even if you go drop off your fabrics at H and M for a discount that's probably worth more than getting $1 for items that cost hundreds

Hi there,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience—we’re really sorry to hear how frustrated you feel about the outcome of your Clean Out.

We understand how disappointing it can be when items don’t sell for the value you expected or when the process doesn’t feel clear. Our pricing and payout structure is based on a variety of factors, including brand, condition, demand, and resale value, and we aim to be as transparent as possible about this upfront.

Regarding item return and unsold inventory, we do offer return assurance options at the time of sending in your items. If that option isn’t selected, unsold items may be responsibly processed according to our policies. That said, we never want you to feel like you’ve lost control over your items, and we’re sorry this was your experience.

Thank you again for your feedback—it helps us improve.

Best regards

We are sorry to hear about your experience. At ThredUp, we understand it takes a lot of trust for sellers to send in clothing, and we have many measures in place to ensure items are processed according to our standards. Please note that we cannot guarantee the acceptance of any items, regardless of their condition or brand, as there are several factors involved in our decision process. While we would like to accept everything, our team must be very selective to maintain our quality standards. Moving forward, we highly suggest requesting a Consignment Premium Clean Out and opting to have unaccepted items returned. Customer loyalty and trust are top priorities for us at ThredUp, and we work hard to uphold these values in our business.

We have followed up via email regarding your an update on your clean out bag, so please review that message at your earliest convenience. If you have any additional concerns, feel free to reply to that email thread. Thank you!

Really disappointed in my last two…

Really disappointed in my last two selling experiences. This latest one netted me 86 cents. I had some really nice pieces in there, a Paige sweater new with tags (for which I received about $6) The saddest one was a Veronica Beard sweater that was in perfect condition and current style and they gave me nothing! Said it needed to be "recycled!" Broke my heart. They sell other Veronica Beard items for $160-$500! I want it back. I used to have such positive experiences for years and loved this company. What happened to them?

Terrible

Terrible. Donate rather than send to them. The amount you receive is so minimal. I sent in brand new jeans with tags on. They sold for 20.00 and gave the buyer a discount of 50% off I ended up with about $1.38.
They have promotional discounts which they take out of your profits. They don’t make it easy to know that they will hold your earnings from sales for 30 days until the buyer has had a chance to return the item. At least be upfront about it. They also have some items that they don’t hold your earnings for 30 days but they don’t pay you out till everything else sells.
They are holding your earnings for a very long time. I sent in so many new with tags items. If I’m lucky I’ll make about $7.

Cancelled

I am a huge online shopper with a bit of a clothing habit. I received a promo from ThredUp in an email and realized that I had not shopped there in at least a year maybe two. I receive countless promo codes from companies daily, most of which I usually take a peek at. So regarding the ThredUp promo code, I took a look, got completely re-hooked. Spent over an hour searching for a significant amount of clothing that I wanted for a vacation coming up in a week. Come to find out yesterday, they CANCELED my order because I was not “eligible“ for the promo code and will issue a refund. What?? if I was in eligible for the promo code, why send it to me and why let it work at checkout? I spoke to a representative online who was cold after I expressed that I felt the company should make an exception and honor it due to it being a mistake on their end. I had spent over $250 on a few items. Now I’m out the clothes, and lacking for my vacation with too little time to shop again. I think that’s HORRIBLE practice! So you’re issuing me a refund? Will you issue compensation for the time I spent on your website as well?

At ThredUp, we allow only one account per household, and orders placed to the same address may prevent the use of promo codes and could result in order cancellations. I placed a order here today

I placed a order here today, and paid with Afterpay. Right after doing that my order was immediately canceled no explanation. I tried to contact their so called good for nothing "chat service" which is pretty much useless. It just sits there forever no reply like you have no life. What's even more frustrating is that every time I put something in my cart and go out to look for other items my cart items are deleted. I don't know about you but I dont shop in ten minute intervals. There's no time to actually shop and you lose what you wanted. You have to place ten orders to get everything you need this is a joke. Posh, Etsy, Mercado etc. don't use this crazy tactic why bother you good these bad reviews for a reason. It doesn't matter now. ThredUp after researching your reviews everything pretty much speaks for itself.

Hi Yolanda,

We’re sorry to hear about this experience we would love to provide clarification on the cancelation of your order. Please send us an email for further assistance at Support@thredup.com.

We completely understand where you're coming from! The cart timers have been implemented to encourage a fair shopping experience for all customers browsing the site that may be interested in the same item(s). We recommend starting a bundle order - this would be a great way to go ahead and purchase what you know you'd like to buy but still have the option to continue to shop the site and add more items to your bundle order. If you aren't ready to purchase quite yet, you can instead add items to your favorites. Once you're ready to make a purchase, you can then move the item(s) to your cart. We really do appreciate the feedback and will pass it along to the respective teams!
