ZERO STARS. you absolute parasites at Bristol Transmissions. Gearbox clunk? Pfft, they'll slap you with a £2,500 clutch con job faster than you can say screwdriver. I got fleeced for their nonexistent fix—clunk laughed in their faces the second I drove off the premises… Road test? More like a con-fetti parade. Decent mechanic exposed their scam said they are renowned for it. swapped a £400 mechatronics unit, and boom, done. These money-grubbing vultures don't know a wrench from a wallet. Don't touch them with a ten-foot pole unless you're begging to be their next victim. That’s £2,500 I will never get back.

Absolutely first class service! Had to wait 3 weeks before they could see my Mercedes but diagnosed the problem correctly within an hour so left it with them to source the parts required and collected it 5 working days later; drives like a dream now. At all stages I was informed of the progress and the invoice was perfectly in line with my expectations; I wouldn't hesitate to use this company again, in fact, I booked my Peugeot in at the same time as collecting the Mercedes such is my confidence! Well done all and thank-you!
I was recommended to Bristol Transmissions by a gear box company I had used before who could not help with an intermittent problem with an automatic diff on a cherished Jaguar XFR. Several local (London) Jaguar dealers refused to look at the car and others quoted more than the value of the car to do something that may cure the issue. When I contacted BR they told me that they would look at it but I would have to wait almost 6 weeks due to their workload. I had no option but to wait and was just pleased to know that they would look at it. My normal mechanic checked their website and was very impressed by the amount of older cars they repaired and the fact that they could even make parts that were no longer available. I checked in with them before the 6 weeks were up and arranged for the car to be transported from London to Bristol. They actually looked at it ahead of my scheduled date. As the problem was intermittent they could not find it at first but they preserved with with repeated test drives until they found the issue. I dealt with Miles who told me what needed doing and quoted a price I was happy to pay. After having had the car back now for 10 days and haven driven it extensively I have just received a follow up call from Miles enquiring how the car has been. Excellent I informed him. This is probably the first review I have ever left for anything but after reading some of the bad ones (only read after I had left my car there) I just felt I had to share my experience. In my view Bristol Transmissions are probably so busy as they are so good at what they do. I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending their workmanship and am extremely grateful to them for helping me keep a car on the road that I have enjoyed for 15 years and now hope to for many more. Workmanship worth waiting for and workmanship worth telling others about.
Thank you very much Bristol Transmissions.
Dropped a gearbox if with these guys on Monday would be told would be ready today had to ring them to be told would be end of next week and they haven't even looked at it yet. What a way to run a business shocking customer service and really didn't care about it at all what a joke of a company !!!!
I found this company to be first class !
Don’t be put off by the previous negative reviews.
Simon did everything he possibly could to convince a very reluctant warrantee company (The Auto Group) that I had a genuine sudden mechanical failure claim, which eventually thanks to Simon resulted in a successful outcome.
I am very pleased with the repairs carried out on my vehicle, which now drives better than it ever did. I would not hesitate to recommend this company to anyone. I feel confident that the repairs carried out on my vehicle have been done to a very high standard. Thankyou Bristol Transmission’s for your help.
Did a full service on my 320d auto box which also had a new sump cost £240 plus vat in 2019
Did a full service on my Alfa auto this year cost a bit more than the bmw but 6 month later still driving sweet so can’t complain, lots of bad reviews on here but can only give my experience, I think when some auto boxes go bad it can shock people how much the repair is, but if gearboxes didn’t break this company would be out of business.
Today I dropped my car off to Bristol transmissions for a RAC warranty claim. WORSE DECISION OF MY LIFE!! the 12 year old courtesy car I was provided with was covered in and out, a carpet in the boot, used e cig in the ashtray, trims in the glove box and a dash light. No covid cleaning at all on arrival. I was advised to speak.to Simon the manager who is supposed to be really helpful and by far was he the most rude person I've ever spoken with. I have had this fault diagnosed by 2 different technicians previously as a gear box synchro fault but unfortunately could not direct the work to them as they are not RAC approved. Simon tried telling me he needed to replace my.clutch before he could work on the gearbox when there is nothing wrong with the clutch (obviously trying to con me out of money) when I explained that there is nothing wrong with the clutch he argued and become.very rude and abrupt. I then told him about the state of the courtesy car was and that I was supposed to have 'like for like' provided under my warranty and he said that I should have spoken to the RAC then and if I don't like it drop the car back. So that I did and I would NEVER use them again or trust them! ( I do also have pictures and videos to back this up.)
I have experienced the same kind of wrong diagnosis as another person on here. My elderly mother was told her gearbox fault would cost 2800 to fix. This is a 2014 Mercedes with 31k on the clock. And my mother was now panicking. I did some research and took the car away. I then found out from internet forums that all it needed was a gearbox software update. So I booked it in with Mercedes specialist and paid £75 plus vat and it's fixed. I strongly suggest people pls get a second opinion it seems this firm isn't as good as they say they are or they would have tried this 1st this could have been offered as a let's give it a go if it dont work we can then look more into it. If I hadn't got involved my mother was going to shell out 2800 pounds for a 75 pounds fix....maybe they knew it was a easy fix n seen my mum as a quick buck. If I could research this up as a common fault on merc why cant so called gearbox specialist. People say never go to dealers they are stealers well I've been to dealers a few times for different cars I've owned after other garages tried to RIP me off and I've been quite surprised how much I've saved. Always best to take the car back to the real techs as they have all the software and tools to fix it rather than replace it at huge cost.
think i have discovered the cloak of invisibility in Bristol. I travelled to Bristol transmissions because my Porsche Cayenne was due a gearbox oil change. The place i use in Kettering for my Range Rover recommended them because they have a similar machine which flushes it out too. I spoke to a helpful man on the phone and he told me that because of the distance i was travelling, the car would need an hour to cool down and to flush it and replace the filter would take till midday." Not to worry" he said, "someone will drop you to the city centre whilst you wait".
I arrived punctually as they opened. I walked into the reception area where 2 members of staff were talking, one looked at me, or rather through me and continued with their conversation. He then walked near to where i was standing to get a job card and walked off. The other guy became absorbed with his computer. A third staff member came in from the workshop, looked in my direction and walked off. That invisibility cloak is good!!
Finally Miles looked out of his office and came out and asked if i was being seen too!! Quite ironic. I explained that i was here to have my gearbox flushed. He looked at the job card and said it will be ready by midday all going well. I asked also if the transfer box oil could also be changed to which he said that should not be a problem. I realised he was not aware of the lift to the city centre. I had decided that because the othesr could not see me i would walk to a coffee shop ( rather than inconvenience Miles ) i had seen when i drove in.
I came back an hour and a half later having been soaked but managing to get a newspaper. I walked into reception once more as it has a rather nice sofa and decided to wait it out. As i walked in there were now 2 men and 2 ladies in the open plan office. One man who i discovered later was the owner Simon looked up towards my direction and then continued looking at his phone. I sat down and began reading my paper. A Caucasian customer came in, Simon cheerfully asked was he being looked after. Later 2 more gentleman came in, spoke to one off the ladies and were waiting by the reception desk. Simon emerged from an office briskly, spotted them, spun his neck around and asked if they were being looked after. I was amazed that out of the approx 9 staff members who walked close by me, only Miles and one lady from the office saw me, the lady with glasses gave a smile as she walked past me, whatan amazing cloak.
Amazingly my car was ready by 11, i must have been privileged because it took 2 staff members to test drive it. Miles came and told me that the transfer oil change had not been done. The technician had told him that unless there was a problem you shouldnt change the oil as that could cause a problem!! Ummmhh, i shall have to speak with Porsche when my car goes in next month for its annual service as to why they make such delicate boxes. Miles also kindly showed me the oil which came out of my gearbox and i am glad i got it changed. I am fearing for my transfer box now though.
In summary ,it appears the invisibilty cloak does not work on caucasians .
I speak fairly good English and on the phone to this company, they are very helpful and professional unfortunately me not being a caucasian is a hindrance when i turn up as i become invisible.
I think it best to avoid Bristol, its not nice being invisible, mind you they fix your car real quick, a bit too quick perhaps.....
Simon in his reply refers to staff but somehow omits his own behaviour.
The speed of job is stated because 2 people including simon stated the length of time it takes.A ramp being free is expected because it was aa booked job and the first of the day.... stated cooling time and work required does not tally with time it took. Shortcut perhaps.....

I booked my car in for a diagnosis they casually told me it would cost thousands of £££££s to replace fly wheel clutch and smg pump , but after several requests for this quote cost be to put in writing a verbal quote was all they gave me . I then became suspicious and decided to take my car to the main dealer after 1hr 30mins they diagnosed a faulty differential , this diagnosis was a fraction of the cost that Bristol transmissions charged me what a total waste of money , they were recommended as well just goes to show you cant trust any one . ALWAYS GET A SECOND OPINION
