I should have read the reviews before purchasing, rather than assuming that a big name in the extractor fan industry produced decent quality fans. The fan I am reviewing is a 150mm fan from the Xpelai... See more

GXC6. WHAT A LOAD OF RUBBISH

What a load of rubbish. I have had Xpelair 6 inch fans for years my old one packed up after 20 years it was brilliant. I purchased the replacement Xpelair the GXC6. Pull cord . Works prefect until the front grill goes on then won’t work. And try to get the grill off what a joke can take an hour still don’t work unless you tap the bottom then will work . DIMPLEX Who now manufactures this fan won’t acknowledge they have a problem. Biggest load of rubbish I have bought better looking for a manrose far superior. DONT BUY THE GXC6 they are not fit for purpose

Purchased an Xpelair C6TS fan around 4…

Purchased an Xpelair C6TS fan around 4 months ago to replace an ageing humidistat model .
The fan worked quietly for 2 months but is now so noisy that it's worse than the model i took off .
The fan impeller mounted on the spindle is not tight so rattles like mad . If you but any product from Xpelair then ensure that there is little or no play between the fan-blade and the main body of the fan as this will get much worse and sounds like an aircraft taking off !!!

Shockingly bad design Xpelair 100mm fan

Just had a Xpelair 100mm fan installed and can't get the cover off to adjust the settings. And no, pressing that thin, fragile plastic tab with a screwdriver is not getting it off. If something as simple as this can be this badly designed, I'd hate to think what other issues this fan will have. Such ridiculously poor design. I could have designed this better myself.

Xpelair GX9 Update

Update, I got an overdue reply and an apology the next day. The slot is a result of the injection moulding process for all GX9 front covers so apparently not an issue. There is a separate hole for the cord on a GXC9. I am grudgingly overlooking what I consider to be a defect and now hoping for no issues once installed. Review upgrade due to receiving a reply.

If you are looking for a NOISY fan you…

If you are looking for a NOISY fan you can get the model C6HTS. It is absolutely awful experience. I thought that was a bad installation but it was not. Oh, It has two speeds meaning: VERY NOISY or EXTREMELY NOISY. £129 wasted. Yeap, £129!

Serious Quality Control Issues

I recently purchased an XIDP100 fan to replace the failed unit in our bathroom. The failed unit was an XID100. The XIDP100 is a plastic bodied version of the XID100. The XIDP100 arrived crudely packaged with small components loose in the box and with three of the terminal box cover screw threads stripped. The supplier have exchanged the fan but the replacement also arrived with small components loose in the box and with two of the terminal box cover screw threads stripped. After receiving the first fan I wrote a lengthy letter of complaint to Xpelair but all I have received in response is a very brief email acknowledgement. I tried calling Xpelair to establish the current availability of the XIDP100 but they bluntly refused to speak to me - they will only speak to wholesalers. Xpelair are ignorant, arrogant and have very serious quality control issues in their factory. I will never buy another Xpelair fan.

One extractor fan set fire and caused a short!

I had 3 of extractor fan simply silent contour c4 with humidistat. One has stopped working after a couple of month. Then a few days ago another one had a short and lit up in flames as the design does not have protection from from water dripping back on the side of the pipe. Water got into the electronics and caused a short luckily we have been home and the fuse tripped this could have burned our house down.

GXC6 Xpelair

GXC6 Xpelair
I’ve been fitting this type of fan over 20 years and can confidently say this new reincarnation of the old Gx6 is definitely not up to scratch, the fan unit has been modified (cheapened) and the cover is of very poor quality, Xpelair have seriously let their customers down with this pile of tat, I would advise any prospecting buyer to look elsewhere.

Xpelair fan is better than Airvent

I'm really impressed with the Xpelair VX100 Standard extractor fan I bought from Toolstation earlier today.

It was a little fiddly to wire it up, but it is working fine - and is doing exactly what I expected.

Originally, I bought an Airvent 150mm Extractor Fan Standard, as I thought the measurement was straight across the front of the grill. As 150mm was too large, I took it back, and discovered that I actually needed a a 100mm one.

This Xpelair one was the cheapest one available, so I bought this.

Everything to do with the Xpelair one was so much better than Airvent - from the box, to the instructions (which was just a flimsly piece of A4 folded paper for the Airvent one). Xpelair even included screws and plugs, which Airvent didn't.

Fan for 100mm hole is 115mm

Purchased 100mm fan with 100mm window kit. Come to fitting it and it doesn't fit, I've check the window which is actually 105mm in diameter, so has space to spare. In the small print of the terrible instructions it says it needs a 115mm hole.

Exceptional support

I contacted Xpelair following the replacement of a very old extractor fan only to discover several manufacturing issues with the new model one of which resulted in a significant cold draught when switched off. I'd bought the device several years ago but had delayed fitting it until the previous fan became unusable. To their credit, Xpelair acknowledged the problem & replaced the fan unquestioningly and have exceeded my expectations by some margin. Very much appreciated!

Xpelair extractor doesn't start

I purchased Xpelair (DX100TS 6.7W Bathroom Extractor Fan with Timer White 240V Item Number 2041H) 12 months ago. After 6 months it showed signs of rust on the visible face and regularly requires manual intervention to start. Have to nudge the extractor blades to encourage fan start. Poor quality product.

Avoid Simply Silent fans

Four Simply Silent fans have lasted about six months each. The noise coming from the unit is unbelievable, it sounds like an engine running. Replacements have been sent and fitted at cost, but to no avail. I recommend anybody seeking an extractor fan for the bathroom uses another company.

Xpelair Simply Silent 100mm Window Kit SSWIN+ 93235AA unfit for purpose

I bought a Xpelair Simply Silent 100mm Window Kit SSWIN+ 93235AA so that I could fit my fan into the kit which should fit into the window. However, both sets of screws are the wrong size, 3 locating pegs were missing, there are no threads in the window ducts for the screws, the fan clamps will need to be broken off to fit into the duct. I asked for help and they sent me correct number of pegs, but the screws are still wrong. This kit is unsuitable for the fans it says it is for! I'm still waiting for my money back from their representatives, GDHV Resolutions, and now have an unfilled hole in my window!

I received excellent service

I received excellent service. It seems the complete opposite of the recent reviews here. I did call them rather than email which suits me to talk to humans. I rang regarding old extractor fan units. The product and manual were immediately identified. Roisin/Rosheen was even patient enough to stay on the call to guide me through the procedure to take the fronts off. I recommend most highly.
