Faulty door
I had my door fitted in September 2016. The door was damaged when it was installed and the letters were wrong. It is also too stiff and I was told to contact my fitter to fix this, I tried calling numerous times to find out it has gone into administration (not by the company itself which is disgusting!) I was going to buy my back door but after an unhappy experience first time round I am so glad I didn't! Luckily I have my door but it needs fixing! I chose the company because of the 10 year warranty and fact I thought it was associated with YALE LOCKS!! I feel like I have been totally scammed! I want to know what will happen with my guarantee??? And if my door will ever be fixed!
When is a door not a door?
I fully sympathise with the recent posts but for those who believed the earlier glowing reviews of Yaledoor on this site (still there if you scroll down past page 2 – they are highly suspicious in their similarity and make you question the reliability of a review site), I would say that they have a long history of appalling customer service. Michael Armstrong may be correct to say that Yaledoor was never featured on Watchdog – it was, in fact,” Don’t get done, get Dom” with Dominic Littlewood.
In September 2013 we bought two exterior composite doors online and paid in full, almost £1600. They were poorly fitted by sub-contractors and eventually, after months of ignored complaints resulting in me beginning a County Court action, were replaced in August 2014. I now bitterly regret not going to court to ask for a refund of my money. Fitting was problematical and again the locking gradually became more difficult culminating in one lock having to be replaced by an emergency locksmith to secure the house in November 2015. Communications with the company were initially ignored but in January 2016, to my amazement, Michael Armstrong phoned to offer to resolve the problems. They contracted a firm to inspect and report in March 2016. When the report stipulated new adjustable hinges be fitted Yaledoor sent hinges identical to those already in place. I phoned and texted the mobile number Michael Armstrong had given me without a reply and wrote again. This suggests they were out of their depth early in this year or had no intention of fulfilling their promises. Currently the garage door is unlockable and the locksmith advised that eventually the new back door lock would break due to forcing. A solicitor I consulted advised me to have repairs done myself and send them the bill, which would be enforceable in law – too late now!
Why is consumer law in this country so weak that people are exploited and left with worthless guarantees? Will the directors now be free to set up a new company and start the whole sorry saga again?
so sad
I had my Yale composite door installed in August 2015. Yale sent me a lovely joiner called Scott who did an amazing installation and he worked very quickly and tidily indeed. Yale had to send Scott back a couple of times to do adjustments, nothing was too much bother for either Yale or Scott. So I am sad to read that the company is in administration. However, I'd like to know how I stand with my 10 year product guarantee, because, at the end of the day, this was a really expensive door and I specifically chose it and Yale because of the 10 year guarantee.
Thought Yaledoor were Yale.
Horrific service and deposit taken and lost. Yale shirking all responsibility eventhough they have done due diligence on Yaledoor whom I thought were part of Yale. YALE are a total disgrace.
saved by Value Doors
After the administration and being desperate for a new door, I found Value Doors and they couldn't be more different from Yale. Not only do they show all their prices online, they take no money until the door is installed! I just wish I could have found them first before I committed to Yale.
Fraud
After making an order, I have just discovered that this company has gone into administration, I have had no contact from either the company or the administrators to inform me of this. These things happen and fortunately I paid by credit card. However, the timing of my order leads me to believe that my transaction has been orchestrated fraud. I have now read that Yale Doors went into administration at 3.30 on the 3rd October. £1279 was taken out my account just a couple of hours previous to this and an installer was supposedly assigned at the same time. It is very hard to believe that this was a complete surprise to the staff taking the money. I should add that the staff called me to be paid at this time. I did not contact them. If this is legal then the law truly is not fit for purpose. Is it not strange that right now you can order a new door from Yale Doors.
Is this Legal?!
Rightly or wrongly, I did not think to check whether a company like Yale had gone into Administration when ordering my front door!
Having not received a phone call to organise a survey, I did a bit of research only to find out they had gone into administration 04 October 2016. How on earth was I still able to place an order on 09 October 2016 and they be allowed to take my deposit?!
This surely is outright theft?
Can a company keep their website online, taking orders that they know won't be completed? There was nothing to state the situation with the Company on their website!
I am not sure what, if anything, I can do about this. I didn't use a credit card so looks like I'm pretty stuck!!
Paid 905 by debit card was due delivery 7th oct
Just found out they folded, they said they was still making my door up to the end, if so then if they are to be believed then my door should be ready, can't the receivers just ship the doors that are built, I'm guessing they were taking our money and stringing us along saying it was in production when it was not, secondly their web site said 152 years of experience, ,proper hoodwinked
Small People Lose Again
As of today I have discovered the end result of a long and drawn out 4 months waiting for my door to materialise. Appointment after appointment broken, I should have sniffed the coffee sooner and realised there was no chance my door was ever going to be fitted. Constant delays with no real explanation. I cannot except that no one had no inclination the company was approaching its end days. Surely you know that if more money is going out than what is coming in things won't end well. Is there not a finance department that deals with these things within the company. Completely rediculous! Thanks for confirming my already negative view of companies, corporations, greed and the law, where a company can just walk away with my money and never get it back. If only this company could get bailed out like the bankers did!! Why the hell is the website still functioning.
Oh did I mention I now have £1300 less in my pocket thanks to this company. Angry and stressed is an understatement!
Lying scum
I'm absolutely furious to have found out that Yale Door have had the nerve to have lied to me for over 2 months. My mother and myself paid in full for a new door back in August, since then I've been given the run around. My mother who currently has a unsafe door was told the door was still in production when all along this was a BLATANT LIE! My mother who saved for months to pay her part of the door and paid by her debit card, I'm now concerned she will never retrieve her HARD WORKING MONEY back. I hope the guy responsible get what he deserves in court because I don't know how he can sleep at night knowing he has ripped decent people off. I'm disgusted by it all and hoping my poor mum gets her money back. I'm also shocked that he got away with using Yale door if this isn't any part of the well known Yale company. He definitely knew what he was doing all along if this is the case.
Not Surprised!
I wrote a review on 15th Sept detailing their shocking Customer Service and the fact one of the 5 doors I had purchased this year was letting in floods of water when it rains. A replacement door and £100 ex-gratia payment was offered. The replacement door was promised firstly by week commencing 3rd oct but at the latest by 10th oct. This I agreed to. However in the meantime I telephoned to inform them that my daughter had slipped on the water being let into our property and to ask for them to speed up the replacement. After much phoning I eventually got hold of Micheal again only for him to inform me he "had had enough of all this" and was now retracting the £100 exgratia payment. He repeatedly laughed when I informed him personally of my daughters accident. This conversation took place on 30th Sept when he pushed back my delivery date to the week beginning 17th. I was extremely shocked and appalled my his comments and behaviour. All of which are at the very least worrying. I understand all calls are recorded. CFS you are welcome to listen to them! Michael, no words I can say can politely express my total disregard for you as an individual. You repeatedly laughed when you heard first hand that my daughter had been hurt. You laughed at me, her mother, at my distress. As a Director you knew of the difficulties your company was in, to argue otherwise is very disappointing but as a human being you are disgraceful. You never asked if my daughter was ok. Yale customers - money is replaceable albeit it very hard to earn and even harder to loose but please note my daughter was hurt because of the lack of any timely professional response and the behaviour of Michael. Truly despicable.
No Door Yale Go into Admin but yet you can still purchase a door online
Absolutely disgusting, we purchased our door only 2 weeks ago so whoever is in charge knew they were going into liquidation yet still took our money! The staff were amazing and wherever they go next will be lucky to have them.
We managed to get our money back because we paid by Visa.
The fact that the website is still up and you can still purchase a door online needs to be taken down as it's misleading and could gain business from consumers that are not aware of Yale's demise.
It would have been nice to have been informed by Yale that this had happened but they didn't even have the decency to do that. A very poor act from what once was a credible company.
Saddened but slightly hopeful...
I've given the company 3 stars because I do need to credit the lovely customer services. They were responsive and incredibly helpful in sourcing physical samples of all the new colours for us to choose from. It lacks the last two stars because - well, we don't have our door. Sorry to all the staff and the owners for the administration. It must have been a tough decision.
I'm slightly hopeful - one has to grip onto that last thread of hope don't they! Our door was due to be collected a few days after the administration. Is it possible that the fitters have collected our door or are we able to collect our door? If the answer is yes, then we would only need to try and claim back the cost of the fitting and pay the fitters again or an independent fitter to fit the door? We paid with a debit card, so probably no hope of getting our money back. It took us a long time to save up to replace our broken door. So if there is a hope that we can get our door and sort out alternative fitting please do let us know. It would be appreciated.
Where is my door?
Hi, my door was due to be ready on the 7th October for the fitter to collect then get in touch with us to arrange the date for it to be fitted. Yesterday I email to Yale Door for any update. No Reply. Which was strange as they usually reply on the same working day.
I started to get worry and start goggle for their review and was shocked to found out they have gone into administration.
Since my door was due to be ready on the 7th October and they have gone into administration on the 4th if I'm correct, does that mean my door is reday somewhere in a warehouse or something? Is there any chance of someone to collect it and come to my house and fit it?
I have paid in full with the debit card. If the door is unable to be collect and fitted, how do I get my money back?
Thanks in advance.
Martyn
Very Unhappy Yale Customer
Received my door and fitting on 4th October, the day it was fitted the lock would not open properly and is really cheap and not Yale! the door has some light scratches, some paint damage on the locking mechanism, silicon sealant around the glass is shoddy and the door draught excluder makes the door even harder to open and close with the lock issue, with this the fitter told me i had to contact Yale direct which i have been trying to do since the 4th with no luck! i have now seen that yale have gone into administration and i have little to no hope of the door being replaced or at the worst fixed. thank you for nothing Yale this is so poor that you've taken peoples money and either supplied nothing or supplied substandard cheap worthless doors, for what its worth please do contact me to organise a refund :-(
Very Disappointed
Firstly, for those that have ordered a door and paid by credit card then you should be able to get your money back - Contact your credit card provider and tell them what has happened. You should get a refund under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.
Your card provider may wish to have proof that Yale Door has folded, if so contact the company looking after the administration which is:
Corporate Financial Solutions (CFS-LLP)
Church House,
13-15 Regent Street,
Nottingham,
NG1 5BS
Tel: 0115 838 7330
They will register you as a creditor and will send you a letter. I have done this and have been promised the letter within the next few days. You need to tell them the registered company name is Castlegate 597 Limited (Yale Door is the trading name)
If you paid by debit card then I suggest you still contact CFS-LLP and register as a creditor but whether you get anything back is debatable, I think when a company folds all the creditors join a queue for any money left in the pot and that is behind the tax man, vat man and banks.
Like others on this forum I feel sorry for the people who have lost money and the employees who have lost their jobs. From what I can determine Yale Door has nothing to do with the actual Yale Lock company that is so famous but the logo is the same and I thought this was illegal under 'Passing Off' and trademark laws, I am surprised the real Yale never picked up on this.
I am sure there will be a report produced by CFS-LLP at some point on the reasons for the company folding (I hope so) and that should detail whether this was through mis-management or bad luck.
Help! Are there specific contact details for the insolvency company?
Whilst I am very sorry to hear about Yale Door - the people I spoke to since dealing with the company were always very polite and helpful - we are a small business that made payment in full by debit card (almost £3500.00 in total) but have not received our doors.
Our bank has advised that they are unable to assist us under the circumstances and that we will have to deal directly with insolvency company - we have not received any communication from Yale Door or the insolvency company, despite the fact that we have been chasing for update on our order continuously for the past two weeks.
We only became aware of this as a result of the third-party installer making contact with us. I would be extremely grateful if anyone is able to provide us with direct contact details so that we can attempt to recover the money that our company simply cannot afford to lose.
Sad and Frustrating
Firstly, my thoughts go to the employees of Yale Door. Samantha in particular was always helpful and friendly and I'm sure she will be in a new job very shortly. On the other side, I am very frustrated by the fact I spoke to the MD, Michael only a few weeks before the company entered administration and despite discussing delays with the production of the door and a request for a refund, I was assured that my door would be fitted. I will never know for sure if Michael knew what was happening, however I do feel betrayed and frankly insulted by the business practices which seemed to have affected a number of customers/creditors/installers. I hope that I will be able to get my money back due to using a credit card however, none the less it's something which could have been avoided if only the management had stopped taking orders and wrapped up the company in a controlled manor.

No contact, no door
Having read about the company going into liquidation and seeing the statement given by Yale door I have yet to receive any contact from the cfs company that has apparently taken control. I paid upfront by debit card for my door and don't believe for a second that the company didn't know it was going down the pan. Taking money that I knew it couldn't deliver on!!
The replys from Yale door on the reviews clearly skip around any solution for people paying by debit card and garuteed I will persue this case until I get what I am owed. Castle gate 597 ltd should take ownership of this and give people what their hard earned money paid for.
For the sake of a scum company like this I hope other people that have been scammed persist and get what their owed.
