Very heavy, very dense. Deadens sound tremendously. Combined this with an engineered wood floor, installers were very impressed and said it was head and shoulders above other material they have put in.
We purchased this product expecting it to eliminate the sound transmission between floors. We are in a multi-story building and we installed the 10mm underlayment below the new luxury vinyl flooring. It does stop some of the sound transmission (foot traffic) to the condo unit below but it does not eliminate it. I'd say its a 40% reduction.
Works great, very heavy and did wonders considering it was only 5mm thick
Used on a large scale train layout and it really helped lower vibrations that would otherwise echo through the benchwork. Plus 75' ships UPS, saving a couple hundred dollars in shipping.
Easy to install. Perfect underlayment for LVP.

The underpayment met the condominium association’s requirements. The delivery was quicker than planned which worked well. Laying it and taping the seams took the installer more time than expected. The overall floor came out great. The underpayment provides nice cushioning.
AMAZING! We have an "upside down house": living and kitchen on top floor. We needed a way to significantly reduce the sound of foot falls, dogs running and kids bouncing around making its way to the bedrooms below. This product is fantastic. After we ripped up the existing engineered wood flooring that transmitted sound like a giant drum, we installed the Iso-Step over the standard sub-flooring. Iso-step is dense and REALLY heavy. It cuts best with a sharp utility knife - change blades often. Then we installed Mannington's ADURA®Max Sausalito over the top. The results are fantastic! I'm not sure you could find a 5mm product of any kind that would provide this much sound transmission mitigation.
Work as described
Installed floating floor in 2nd floor condo. Installed this + 1/2" cork + 1/8" felt insulayment, and then the flooring. Neighbor downstairs is thankful, and I'm glad I didn't have to put in carpet with padding.
