The course was delivered by different tutors across the three modules, although their teaching styles were broadly consistent. Tutors were approachable, receptive to questions, and demonstrated a strong understanding of the subject matter. Sessions were delivered online in intensive blocks, which can be challenging for those without prior experience in finance, or other demands on their time (missed sessions were not accessible retrospectively/repeated).
While the concepts themselves were not particularly difficult, the volume of information required was substantial. This can quickly lead to information overload for learners who are new to the subject.
The course content closely followed the CeMAP / LIBF manuals. In some instances, sessions felt like guided readings of these manuals, which limited opportunities for meaningful interaction. No additional learning materials were developed to support the course, apart from a reprint of the official manuals. To aid learning, practice questions were completed in group sessions with tutor support. While this was somewhat helpful, the approach did not significantly enhance what was already available in the manuals. Furthermore, few of the practice questions aligned closely with those in the actual exams, so high mock scores may not be a reliable indicator of exam readiness. I found the LIBF online learning resources to be more useful in many respects.
A key limitation of the course was the lack of supplementary learning materials. Requests for recordings of live sessions were declined, and learners were not permitted to record discussions for note-taking purposes. In one case, a tutor used a PDF with highlighted content, but this was not shared despite a request. As someone currently working in higher education, I found that some of the teaching practices did not align with best practices for supporting diverse learning needs.
E-Careers employs a support team to monitor learner progress and encourage exam completion. While this could be perceived as intrusive, I found it ultimately helpful in keeping me on track—I completed the course & exams over 18 months, delayed largely do to personal commitments. The support encouragement to complete the exams was beneficial in my case.
This course may be suitable for those with existing experience in the finance sector, as it can help build confidence ahead of the CeMAP exams. However, for learners without prior knowledge—such as myself—more tailored support would be beneficial. I rated the course three stars: it is functional, but there is considerable room for improvement.
