04909 SCALE 1:144 HEIGHT: 775 PARTS:82 Apollo Saturn V At 0932hrs on 16th July 1969 the giant Saturn V rocket was launched from the launchpad at Cape Canaveral on the most important journey in the history of mankind. The giant Saturn V consisted of three main stages, was 110 meters (361 ft) high and weighed 3,000 tons. It could carry a payload of 50 tons and reach a speed of 11.2 km/second (25050 mph). The 394,000 km ( 244,800 mile) journey to the moon took 72 hours. After achieving low Earth Orbit, the upper assembly with the Apollo Capsule received a final push from the third stage rocket thrusters to achieve the speed required for its flight to the moon. Later the Apollo module broke away from the rocket, turned and pulled the Lunar Module from its protective covering. Coupled together like this, the combination eventually reached the Moon and entered Lunar orbit. After several Lunar orbits the Lunar Module with the astronauts N. Armstrong and E. Aldrin on board separated from the Command Module in which only the astronaut M. Collins remained. With two firings of the retro rockets the Lunar Module commenced its final approach into the " Sea of Tranquillity". This historic event will be remembered for eternity. Fun and quick build into an enormous model. Makes a change from hyper detailed aircraft. Simple to build and then easy to assemble the rocket stack or display as separate stages.

Have started construction. It is a massive kit for the price, but does seem to be quite an old mold. the rocket itself is mainly white plastic, with engine parts molded in silver colored plastic. The base is very nice and is made from a grey plastic with a nice texture. The kit has a lot of flash that is easy to remove, and the fit is pretty good, but the halves do require sanding and I wouldn't be surprised if I need to use filler later on. The decals look very nice, and the modular design means you can take each module apart to see the internals. Overall, a great kit, especially for the price, but I would only recommend to those who are more confident and have the right tools.

Have not constructed yet, but looks well detailed, although 1:144 scale is still a very tall model, small figures to give you some idea of the scale of the real article.

Haven't had a chance to build the kit yet, but on first impressions the moulding is good with a good dry fit, no problem with flash. Will make an interesting display
