Title: Paid $5 but balance stayed at $0

I signed up to Minimax to test their API and charged my account with $5. The payment history shows the recharge as Success on 2026-06-28 09:18:07 UTC, amount $5.00, but my effective balance is still $0.00.

I contacted support about this issue, but I have not received any useful response or fix. I only paid a small amount to test the service, but if the balance does not update after a successful payment, it makes the platform feel unreliable.

Until this is resolved, I cannot recommend using Minimax for API testing or production.

I tried the Minimax M3 agent through…

I tried the Minimax M3 agent through the Claude CLI and it has been far below my expectations.
The model often fails to understand my problems and rarely provides any useful or concrete solutions.
I frequently have to repeat the same requests several times to get even a partial answer, which makes it very frustrating to use.
On top of that, it keeps suggesting that I “wrap up for the day” instead of helping me move forward with my work, which feels completely inappropriate for a coding assistant.
Overall, the experience has been a disappointment and I cannot recommend this product at its current level of reliability.

Absolute garbage

Absolute garbage, freezes mid-session ALL THE TIME, stops responding, forces me to restart opencode only for it to freeze AGAIN a minute later

Substantial improvement in quality

Yes, they charged me for a year instead of on a monthly basis like I requested in their form, this is wrong and their customer service is useless.

I have to admit that the quality of the model has increased substantially lately, even before the launch of M3 and M3 is really a noticeable improvement. I have to say that I'm actually very impressed with the model now. I'm using it heavily, so I'm around 0.5-1 >billion< tokens per week, so it's outstanding value for USD 400 a year.

I hope they will keep it going like this, this is outright impressive.

Can't sample it without selling your soul (i.e., your Google account access)

I want to test MiniMax AI because it had a good review on YouTube. But I can't even test it without signing up, and I WILL NOT give you my Google account info so you can sell it to some marketing twit who will sell it on to countless other creeps who will spam me from here to breakfast time! I just want a test, and if it works I'll buy a subscription. Why do these AI companies not realise they're shooting themselves in the (digital) foot, with their parsimonious behaviour?!

Fantastic thing... for small projects

Minimax is one of those that look to be able to give you the world (that's just my feeling as it looks so capable on the surface) but well into your build, you're going to see that it's as flawed as can be like the rest of the coding AI/Agents out there. They are great for "build me a landing page for..." or some small SaaS, but as soon as you want to add on those projects, you better just hire a team of coders and continue from there: basically, good for a startup, really bad for any additions. If you don't stop with the "proof of concept" project you started out with and try and move further with some addons, you are screwed, it's basically FAFO territory after that. You'll be constantly fixing, finding errors which it will finish but it'll add some new feature or change something that results in yet another break down of your project, you'll be constantly plugging wholes, getting nowhere. So safe money and buy the cheapest version if you need to use Minimax and run after you have your proof of concept design, don't let it lure you in with any new features.
