This kit is the XRP's hardware pillar. The SparkFun XRP Controller is significantly improved over the Beta XRP Controller! It features a Raspberry Pi® RP2350B dual-core processor; 16MB of flash and 8MB of PSRAM; low-power accelerometer + gyroscope 6-DoF IMU (LSM6DSOX from STMicroelectronics®); two Qwiic® connectors for easy integration of sensors and accessories; two dual-channel motor drivers for four motors total; four servo headers; a user button; a full-color RGB LED; 0.1in. headers for electrical expansion possibilities, and more. Wireless connectivity is available via a Raspberry Pi® RM2 radio module, enabling 2.4GHz WiFi and Bluetooth for remote control and IoT projects. The plastics and chassis have also been significantly enhanced over the Beta XRP! Improved snap-fit components and optimized 3D-printing compatibility make assembling the XRP remarkably easier. Thanks to improved durability, a redesigned battery holder, and versatile mounting options, the XRP has also become more robust and user-friendly. The kit also includes an ultrasonic distance sensor, a line sensor, two motors with encoders, one servo motor, sensor cables, two wheels, and two casters. The robot is typically powered by 4xAA batteries (not included in the kit), but the barrel connector supports any supply up to 11V. The XRP is programmed using a USB-C connector (cable not included). Its for my grandsons birthday which has`ent happened yet !

We have started a junior robotics program. They are using the XRP kit to learn to build a robot and learn the functionality of drive and servo uses. We are also using the Blocky environment and getting prepare to use Python for programming. The students are able to successfully complete build and programming tasks due to the XRP Kit.

In general, the product lives up to my expectations. With one small exception each kit came with all the correct parts. Assembly was straightforward. I managed to bend one of the pins, but after straightening the pin the bot worked correctly. I have found the wifi functionality to be unreliable, especially when trying to connect to a wifi access point. I attribute that to the pico, but more testing is needed. And I think the software libraries could use some more polish. Despite these complaints, I am very satisfied with the product. And I look forward more Sparkfun XRP accessories.

To be honest, I haven't used these kits yet. I purchased them to give to kids that were involded in our afterschool robotics program. However, I have researched them and excited to provide them to the kids and see what they come up with.
