The CS19D128B is a high quality magnetic rotary encoder from Cooka. This is a low friction 'smooth' rotary encoder with 128 pulses per revolution and no indentations. Pressing in on the encoder closes the built-in switch. Unlike mechanical variants, the internal mechanism is magnetic based allowing the encoder to withstand a tremendous number of rotations before the encoder begins to experience slips. The SparkFun version of this encoder is unique in that it can be powered from 5V or 3.3V. The shaft is 6mm and is not recommended for use with 1/4" knobs. Reading 2-bit quadrature output (A/B square waves) from the encoder is commonplace for most microcontrollers and an example sketch is available to get you started.

Honestly, I would have just moved on, but you asked. I was REALLY excited about incorporating this encoder into a project I am working on. It worked great initially (2 days), but quickly presented quality issues when the back cap popped off pretty much as soon as I got it. The push button/switch seems to rely on that to be in place. As much as I wanted this to work, I was disappointed in the quality and resorted to cheaper standard encoders as 'good enough'.
