Product details

Brand: Spitfire Audio

We join forces with BAFTA-winning Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds (Broadchurch, Kiasmos, Erased Tapes) to record an all-star ensemble performing his latest set of awe-inspiring evolutions. The 4,3,3,3,3 ensemble of British players (Violin I + II, Viola, Cello, Double Bass), led by long-term collaborator Viktor Orri Árnason, perform a range of fragile yet warm beautifully evolving phrases, recorded at the world famous Hall at AIR Studios, London. Using our Evo Grid technology, this library makes it easy to create sophisticated chamber strings music from the most simplistic of arrangements - just a few sustained notes is all you need to write inspiring dynamic textures. We also introduce Waves: a brand new innovation featuring notes that move along a wave-like dynamic arc, appearing from nothing, swelling, and then dying away again to nothing. These are accessible via our classic interface, in various styles and lengths.

I love Chamber Of Evolutions, but there are important flaws which I feel like I should mention. Firstly (for context) I am a young composer, henceforth not granting access to big/expensive composing tools. I only use Garageband on an early 2010s macbook. And having old devices, and apps and everything is really a setback to use this library. I have to use Kontakt 7 and it makes the whole thing - almost - unusable. Though the scarce moments I can use it, trust the delight these sounds are for my ears. Secondly I'd like to address how sad I feel towards a lot of the Evolutions not have anything to toggle the release. It is the most important thing in my eyes for the music I make, and with it lacking with the evolutions I see myself quite forced to go towards the Waves. I wanted to bring the good and the bad from my personal experience with this review. I hope it helps !

Some of the best sounds around. Definitely an industry leader

I purchased the Olafur Arnalds library and have to say that I regret the purchase. This was easily THE hardest and most time confusing installation and setup of any vst or library I've purchased. It was basically trial and error. There are many outdated videos online and often the Spitfire guidance did not work either. There are inevitably complexities in working between the different versions of Kontakt and the NI universe, but a product with this price tag should not take 2-3 hours of brain damage and valuable studio time to set up. Still the various sound samples are so I really don't have a way to audition the various sounds through Kontakt without opening each. While I love Olafur Arnalds, the piano plugins (the basic ones) and the caliber of collaboration and sound quality, Spitfire was hands down the hardest and most unwieldy platform to get working. I simply don't use it much (other than Stratus) for this reason. If it weren't for the additional time it would take, and likely the inability to actually receive one, I would have asked to "return" it and get a refund. There are too many NI and other platforms with similar products that are turn key and have better UI's. Stratus was the hardest to get set up, but amongst the OA pack I enjoy it the most and the UI is actually modern and intuitive. But still I would not ever recommend the product based on how hard it was to actually get working (which was eventually successful through basic trial and error).

It's been a while since the instrument was released, but it still presents a good inspiration.

I am a full-time (for more than 20 years) composer and sound designer. From Super Bowl ads to films, documentaries, art installations etc Spitfire Audio has been one of my top choices. Their products are amazing. I can’t begin to count the times they have inspired an entire piece or simply added the perfect final touch. Every product is well designed and unique. I plan to eventually have their entire catalog.

Olafur is an incredible artist. The Chamber Evolutions are an incredible "share" on his behalf !

Like I said with the previous review it's a bit early to decide what my star rating is for this library but after initial experiences i rate it 4 so far.

Good plugin for a nice string bed that doesn't feel like a pad. Nice unobtrusive sound, but needs to be played well ahead of time, which takes some practice but to great effect.

A must have for any serious keyboard player! Sublime on their own and what value for money! Also, used with any other strings or pad they bring real life and expression to live performance.

I should have bought this sooner. It blends beautifully with arrangements, also, I learn a lot when I see the dynamics in action.
