Røde are a solid manufacturer and brand who make hardy and reliable microphones. The NT series are great, with the NTR a standout, and so I thought I'd check out the M5s. Sure, these are not Sennheiser or Neumann, but they're not meant to be, and for the price you really cannot complain, and the Røde fidelity to price ratio is very, very good. While certainly not good for everything like the sales spin tends to tell you, with a bit of tasteful subtractive EQ you can bring the M5 comparatively close to the sound of even the $6k mics. Ultimately it's how well you drive them and how well you treat them, much like any other microphone. I bought two sets and don't regret the purchase.
