Travelling through the Alps on the Bernina Express is a wonderful experience and was the highlight of our trip. Tailor Made Rail did a great job advising and organising.

We had a European rail trip organised by Tailor Made Rail from 12 - 23 May. Overall we had a very enjoyable trip, with a week in Brunate above Lake Como in a quirky boutique hotel. We had first class Interrail tickets and it was worth the extra for the more comfortable carriages. We travelled through France and Switzerland to Italy and a highlight was the train on the Bernina World Heritage route. Our return was more direct through Germany and France. We were very pleased with the hotel in Brunate suggested by TMR. We also found their documentation comprehensive and the Interrail booklet very useful. On the downside we found that communication could have been better. We were originally listed as being on the Bernina Express but our final itinerary was on other trains. This turned out to be better, in fact, than the Bernina Express (fully booked) as our trains were quite sparsely populated in comparison, giving us better views. It would have been helpful to have this explained in advance. Also our original booking confirmation showed a direct train from Paris to Basel but our final itinerary showed a train to Strasbourg and a local train to Basel, presumably because the original train was booked. Again this should have been explained. There was also a mistake in our booking from Paris to Strasbourg, with our seat reservations being for the previous day. We had a frantic race across the station to get new reservations, just catching the train with five minutes to go. Despite these relatively minor negatives we had a great experience and would certainly use Tailor Made Rail again.

Fantastic train ride with beautiful scenery. Pity the refreshments on board the Bernina Express were very poor. No coffee for the whole trip.
