Am not even sure this company exists

I arrived at my appointment at 167-169 Great Portland Street. I pressed the button and was asked to go up to level 5. There was no plaque with the name of that company, and the place looked as if it was an office space rented by various people. I was asked to go to the waiting area. 10 minutes after the time of my appointment I asked at the reception where my host was, and was told that they were delayed -- nothing more than that. I called the number of the company, and there was no reply. After 15 minutes I left.

4.5 hours after my appointment I got a phone call from a US number, and was told they were calling from my appointment. When I said that nobody was at my appointment, they hang up.

I lost 4 hours from my life, but I now worry what kind of scam that could have been.

I visited Hearing Services in Kingston because I was seeking independent specialist advice regarding my age-related loss of hearing, wax removal and the options for maintaining future hearing health.
In previous years I had visited high street outlets offering little time for discussion or advice. In contrast, following a comprehensive hearing test at Hearing Services Kingston the clinician Alexandra spent time with me discussing the degree of my hearing loss and my personal requirement for improvements within different environments going forward.
Based on the clinician’s appraisal of current day hearing aid options, my selected aids are discrete, state of art models with AI sound processing that fit comfortably within the ear. Hearing Services also follow up with regular consultations on hearing aid performance, maintenance and ear wax removal.
The Kingston clinic is welcoming, clean, quiet and easily accessible by bus or car

Alexandra considered all options to resolve my hearing issues and stepped me through them sensitively. She followed up to make sure that everything was ok and it was.

Great service, expert approach and wouldn’t hesitate to go back

I was made welcome on arrival - the service offered was professional and I was given as much time as I needed to talk through the reason for the appointment and my personal concern and I certainly left feeling I had been treated well on every level.

Appointment was easy enough to make. Staff were great, they helped explain the process. Got my ears cleaned - i can hear much better now!

I am very happy with my hearing aids! The difference they’ve made in my daily life is incredible. Sounds are so much clearer, conversations are easier to follow, and I feel more connected with the people around me. They are comfortable to wear, easy to use, and have given me such a boost in confidence. I’m truly grateful for the improvement they’ve brought to my quality of life.

Excellent service and professionalism. The audiologist carried out a thorough hearing test and spent plenty of time explaining all the results and recommending the best hearing aid from all the major brands of hearing aids that they offer.

I had wax removal . Highly professional and efficient . I would recommend.

Unreliable, unprofessional and difficult to deal with.
I booked an appointment to have ear wax removed for 9.00 am on Wednesday 8th January with their Kingston Branch.
It was booked well in advance and a £25 deposit was paid through Paypal.
Two days before the appointment I got a call from a very flustered lady asking if we could move the appointment to 5.30pm instead (with no reason given) which didn't suit me.
We then agreed that I would move the appointment to the 9th at 9.00 am instead.
I changed my plans to take time off work on that day instead. The night before I got another call asking if they could delay my appointment again, with no reason given, I said it wasn't convenient and pointed out that I had already been messed about and changed my plans and would prefer to stick to the 9.00am booking. I was told this was fine and "see you in the morning"
It was a cold frosty morning and I stood outside the practice for 10 minutes, rang the bell a few times but no one answered as the building was empty.
At 9.05 I tried ringing the number that had been calling previously and simply got an answer phone so I left a message asking them to refund my deposit as there was no one at the practice to see me and I had lost faith in their professionalism.
A couple of hours later I got repeated calls asking me to rebook, offering reduced prices and explaining that the audiologist was late as they had a long way to drive and couldn't make it for 9.00am - Incredible.

It now makes sense that they were trying to push me to later in the day rather than get out of bed and come to work at a reasonable hour!

If this had been explained I would have at least asked to cancel the appointment previously, rather than take an hour off work to attend an appointment that they clearly knew they were unlikely to keep!

The lady was insistent that I rebook rather than take a refund of my deposit and genuinely didn't recognise their lack of professionalism.
She couldn't fathom why offering discounts would make up for such shoddy service or that I was reluctant to have someone who is unable to get to work on time go rummaging around in my ears with suction tools.
Eventually a few calls later it was agreed that a refund would be issued through Paypal, it never appeared, another call and it was promised, but by today had not appeared.
I have now raised a dispute with Paypal and wasted more of my time due to this clinics unprofessional and unreliable timekeeping.
Paypal settled immediately.
So, if you have nothing better to do that waste your time changing dates and times in your work diary, standing around in the cold and chasing refunds give them a go.
I am sure that when they actually turn up they are probably lovely people.
I however, can not think of a service that I have ever booked where the professionally qualified person AND the receptionist failed to turn up to work in time for my appointment.

Review for The Hearing Service – Wood Green Branch

I had an ear microsuction procedure at The Hearing Service’s Wood Green branch on Monday, November 12th 2024,and it was the worst experience I’ve had with ear care.

During the procedure, the specialist seemed to remove some wax and mentioned there was only a small amount left, saying it wasn’t enough to be concerned about. I told him I had a follow-up ear irrigation appointment scheduled for next week and asked if I should cancel it. He recommended that I keep it to ensure my ears were 100% clear. Trusting his advice, I left, expecting only minor wax remained.

However, soon after, I began experiencing severe discomfort, a persistent muffled sensation, and noticeable hearing loss. Concerned, I made an urgent appointment with my GP, only to be told by the doctor that my ears were still very full of wax. The doctor suggested my discomfort was likely due to an incomplete microsuction procedure, which would require another appointment to finally remove the wax.

I am extremely disappointed with The Hearing Service. The lack of thoroughness and professionalism has left me with ongoing pain, wasted time and money, and more frustration than before. I genuinely regret choosing this service and would not recommend it to anyone seeking reliable ear care.

Kingston branch is newly opened; I would highly recommend! I went for a check up and found the appointment thorough and fascinating! The audiologist Nikki (Ms Najafova) was excellent, very patient and thorough and did extra tests that went into further detail to ascertain my specific issue, which a well known high street brand didn't bother with at all. Also really excellent value for money! I would highly recommend and will be making sure my family and friends go too!
