Overall, I’ve had a good experience with the Photography Institute, but studying online can be quite a lonely journey. I think having a community or discussion forum where students can connect, share work and learn from one another would make a huge difference. Studying on your own isn’t always ideal.

The biggest thing I feel is missing from the course is creative freedom. Many of the assignments feel very technical and focused on getting things “right”, rather than encouraging you to keep creating, experiment and develop your own visual language. I would have loved more opportunities to simply make photographs, take creative risks and explore photography as an art form.

The course is also very technical and places a strong emphasis on photography history and theory. While I understand the value of this, I would have preferred more focus on how photography is practised today. Some of the material can also be difficult to grasp from a neurodivergent perspective, particularly the amount of maths, graphs and diagrams.

That said, the tutors are great and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback. My tutor is also the owner of the course. He can be quite tough on you at times and sometimes approaches photography in a more traditional way, but it’s clear that he has your best interests at heart.

The student support has been the biggest highlight for me. They are incredibly quick, helpful and efficient whenever you need assistance.

The course is value for money but it does not really teach you about manual mode as I had hope.

Overall, I think the course has a lot to offer, but I would love to see more creative freedom, contemporary approaches and opportunities for students to connect with one another.

My experience with the photography institute is that you get out what you put in. All the relevant information is supplied and kept up to date, the tutors are made available, but success is dependent on yourself. It's pushed me well out of my comfort zone which is what I desired from the course, a new set of skills that I wouldn't necessarily chase down by myself.

Great knowledgeable tutor that provided fair remarks and offered helpful suggestions. On time marking of assignments and prompt answering of emails.
This course is not the ordinary stuff... you need to be prepared to put in the extra work.

I’m really enjoying my experience in the photography course so far! I’ve learned so much from the first five modules, and I can’t wait to complete all 12.

From the technical aspects of photography to the hands-on practical exercises, the course has given me a whole new appreciation for the art of photography. I especially enjoy being able to learn at my own pace and go through the lessons from the comfort of my home whenever my schedule allows.

It has been a fun, rewarding, and eye-opening experience so far. If you’re looking to learn more about photography while having the flexibility to study at your own pace, this course is definitely worth trying!

This course is good value for money and has some interesting advanced models to look forward to after this course is completed.

The Photography Institute course was recommended to me earlier this year. I am now undertaking module 6 of the 12 and i am very pleased that I followed up on the recommendation. I have found the easy access to my tutor and really helpful feedback on assignments very beneficial. Whether you are looking to pursue photography as a career or to improve yours skills as an enthusiast I would recommend this course highly.

The course is well structured, easy to follow and contains relevant in-depth content. I love the clear explanations and extra information that is given and also the practical instructions with each assignment. The assignments help a lot to put the theory into practice and after each completed assignment you receive feedback on your work. My tutor (Steven Vote) is always available, and he is kind and gives good feedback on the assignments. He is a great mentor. I am absolutely enjoying this course and learning so much (and being able to do it at my own pace). I can highly recommend this course.

Great resources and information to complete the Modules and Assignments, up to date knowledge of the industry and advancements, really good student support, I would recommend highly especially if you would prefer to study online due to work commitments.

I really learnt a lot from the course. I had a lot of aha moments. The assignments helped a lot to put the theory into practice. It really helped with putting topics into learning order rather than trying to figure it out on my own. I really enjoyed the structure, the breakdown and the modules ranging from camera use to business.

From my very first interactions with my tutor the whole course so far has been amazing. The depth of the modules is perfect, enough to make you work but not too much that it's overwhelming. Highly recommended and the support throughout has been nothing but brilliant.

I've been taking photos for years but never knew a lot about the technical side. I've learnt so much that I'm now confident to go in to manual mode and actually understand it. I like how I can submit an assessment, read the next module and see what the next assessment is so I can start preparing.
