Excellent service and no fee
Excellent service and no fee. I opened an account with Currencies Direct and asked them to leave my money in my account to change from Euros to £ sterling when the rate was good. Anna Jones from their Mojacar office kept in contact with me throughout. They transferred my money when I asked them to and it arrived in my UK account when they said it would. So I would strongly recommend them.

I have a account in Currency Direct and wanted to transfer 300.000 NOK into Euro, and I did think they was competitive, but no. My English bank could do it cheaper for me. Not what I expected. And my English bank also use a Norwegian IBAN so it very easy to transfer and then exchange later or when I want.

an extortion of people's data
an extortion of people's private information, that's their "registration" process. so you just want to know what their rates are, step by step they try to get every piece of your personal information, then when you realise what they are doing it's too late; added insult, you cannot unsubscribe, the button at the bottom of their email, doesn't work. They say somewhere you can email them and ask to be unsubscribed, which I did straight away, their response was: you need to complete your registration, by uploading a photo ID!!!! Please Do not give in to them. Use Wise, it may be slightly more expensive, but in return for a few pounds difference, you get to keep your personal information to yourself, and above all, your rights and your dignity.

Dealing with a large sum of currency exchange is not something we have ever had to do and we were quite apprehensive. Germaine was superb throughout the entire process, professional, knowledgeable and responsive, any time I emailed with any sort of query or asking for a call, Germaine always responded in a timely manner and was patient and thorough when discussing processes with us.We would always want to be supported by Germaine if we were in this situation again.

A data trap! Mandatory app and biometrics hidden until AFTER they capture your data.
After researching currency cards for my upcoming travels, I decided to try Currencies Direct because they advertise their Multi-currency card as a simple, hassle-free "One card for home and away."
The registration process on their desktop website was incredibly intrusive—asking questions more in-depth than opening a standard bank account. The exact millisecond I clicked submit, an account manager rang my phone to introduce himself. When I told him I just wanted to order the physical currency card, the truth came out: You cannot order or manage the card online. You can top-up online but to manage it completely you are forced to download their smartphone app.
Nowhere on their website do they mention that the app is mandatory; they deliberately give the impression that it is a web-based service with an optional app. When I asked if the app required biometrics, the agent confirmed I would have to submit selfies and facial scans.
I immediately refused and asked to exercise my statutory 14-day right of withdrawal. The agent instantly became evasive, sneakily suggesting I could just "close my account online myself." This is a corporate trap—closing an account online leaves your data in their active system, whereas a legal withdrawal unwinds the contract entirely. I stood my ground and demanded a formal withdrawal.
The ultimate insult: Because they trick you into completing registration before revealing the mandatory app and biometric rules, their system runs an invisible background check. Now, their compliance team has emailed me stating that even though my account is closed and I had zero transactions (Nil), they are legally trapping and archiving my personal data for the next 5 years under Money Laundering Regulations.
If you have to jump through more hoops than a standard high-street bank just to get a simple cash card for a holiday, do yourself a favor and open a real account with Chase or Starling instead to get actual banking perks.
Currencies Direct uses misleading practices—presenting everything as nice and easy, hiding the mandatory app/facial scans, and trapping your data for 5 years without you ever using their service once. Stay far away.

I found the process of opening an account easy with the support.
I found the process of opening an account and transferring money quite daunting as I am not confident with digital transactions.
However Megan Lee was absolutely fantastic, she helped me so much by explaining everything in detail. Megan was extremely patient with me and I never once felt a bother.
She waited in the phone while I attempted a transaction a few times and I felt quite relaxed.
I could certainly not have managed any of the transaction without Megan guiding me. Thankyou
