Staff were friendly and kind. The rooms were alright besides the fact that our fan kept breaking and there were no replacements (besides a tiny desk fan that didnt work well) so it got quite hot. The shifts were scheduled at good times to prevent heat illnesses and there was plenty of free time to explore. Would recommend to others, was a good experience! Just be warned that the cycling to certain beaches can be quite long and uphill from the Svoronata site especially if you aren't particularly fit. Not sure this is included in their description but it is true!!

The programm was a chanche to not only to get in touch with magastic sea turtels. The programm also provided insights in research and conservation work. Everyone was welcomme no matter what age, nationality or knowlege. I had such a wonderful time and I will probably do it again

I volunteered for wildlife sense in lixouri, kefalonia, Greece. At 5.30 the cycle or walk would begin they can be from half a hour to a hour long. Once you have arrived at the beaches you would look for tracks left from the turtles. If any were found you try to understand what happened and how far they got into laying the eggs - if it was unsuccessful or not. Reporting all this back so the data can be written up. There was mid day talks and afternoon shifts to sign up for as well. My favourite was definitely the night shifts where you leave at 8.30 to begin at 10, for these shifts you walk up and down the beach the whole night on lookout for any turtles coming up to lay. It was such a beautiful experience to see it happen in person and doing the checks on the turtles shows you their strength and size. You learn so much on the job. Before we arrived we had a Facebook group where you got in contact with others before you left which made you feel part of a group already. Once there you get shown around and immediately make friends. You get taught everything you will need to know and they will answer any questions you have. The staff were all so lovely and the evening activities brought everyone together. I loved playing card games and going on boat trips with my friends on my free time. The room I had was perfect as we had a kitchen and bathroom while other rooms had communal kitchens and bathrooms. For future volunteers you will absolutely love it just get stuck in and get to know everyone even the leaders your time there will go very quickly so make the most out of it. I plan on going back to see the hatchlings next.

It was amazing, the people I was with were amazing, we all clicked and got along together really really well instantly, we all had each others back and it was just a beautiful vibe we had created. The beaches were beautiful, the sea amazing, the turtle shift we had was by far the best one when we saw the baby turtle hatchlings which was so precious and sweet. The staff were also very kind, welcoming and accommodating, put all of our fears at bay and just made us feel at home. The location of the house was perfect, the place was beautiful in a gorgeous wild garden that was honestly such a rare beauty.

My daily role included monitoring turtle nests, recording data, protecting nesting beaches, and speaking with visitors about the importance of conserving loggerhead sea turtles. The most memorable part of the experience was seeing fresh turtle tracks on the beach early in the morning and knowing that our work was helping protect this amazing species.
