When I moved into Eastbourne branch i gave a 5 star review. The older gentleman on reception was very helpful. Fast forward 6 months, when the introductory rate was ending, i gave appropriate notice and vacated on the final day as arranged. I did multiple trips to my vehicle and two trips to the store, within 2 to 3 hours in the morning. Signed in and out both times, exchanged pleasantries with the unfamiliar bloke on reception and with another staff member outside my near empty unit, as my trolley was blocking his way. As i signed out for the final time i could see the sole receptionist was involved with a customer so being in a hurry, just left. So Safestore decided i hadn't officially ended my contract as i didn't inform reception i was done, as requested in an email sent weeks earlier (i thought they were perfectly aware of what i was doing) and the next day invoiced me for another month. Luckily i had cancelled the dd. Several appeals to their manager got nowhere and i was warned if i didn't pay the invoice within 14 days it would be sent to debt collectors. So I appealed to head office. Their regional manager Hanif quickly got back to me to say he had cancelled the invoice - so I've no beef with Safestore at all, Hanif deserves 5 stars. But this review is about Eastbourne store, and because of the unnecessary stress they caused, i won't ever be going back.

I previously had a very good experience with Safestore and had left a 5-star review. I have been a customer since 2018 and, under Chris’s management, the service was consistently helpful, professional and sensible.
Unfortunately, since the change of management, my experience has changed significantly.
An Evri parcel from the USA, tracking number H04QIA0079964734, was refused at the store on 22 May without any communication to me beforehand. I received no call, no text, no email and no warning that there was an issue. The parcel has now been returned internationally, costing me £52 in return fees.
This was especially disappointing because I was away, the parcel arrived much earlier than expected, and there were practical solutions available. I could have arranged for someone to attend or for the parcel to be placed into my unit. I also understand that other parcels were kept while I was away, so I do not understand why this particular parcel was refused without contacting me first.
As a long-standing customer who has at times had several units costing close to £1,000 per month, I expected better communication and customer care.
My previous 5-star review was based on the service under Chris. Sadly, that no longer reflects my current experience. I have raised a formal complaint with Head Office and am now considering alternative storage options.

I did a quick quote for a friend, who thought it was too expensive. I have been bombarded with calls and emails ever since, even though I am clearly not interested. Very, very pushy and annoying.

Really friendly staff at the Eastbourne depot. Ben, Chris and Gab are really good fun to talk to and very helpful.
The rooms at first are not easy to locate, but I was given a map on request and it was made even more easier. The rooms are also secure and you get to keep your padlock on departure!
Going to miss the team, we got on really well and was not just a customer; Chris often talked to me about his love of motorbikes!
Very good value and easy to move around inside the depot parking space too.
Thanks again and might pop in for some more water! haha! :)

Be aware of the terms for ending a storage unit rental with Safestore we felt it was misleading. Said 14 days notice then became 20 days (although staff did not seem to be sure about this recently notified change). When we have notice we were told because the notice period fell within our last month’s direct debit we would be charged the whole month. It is practically impossible to work out giving notice at a time to avoid paying a month’s notice in effect. After some emails to the branch and us chasing for a response the area manager finally agreed to only charge us 20 days notice and refund the balance of the final month’s advance payment. So be careful not to get caught in this trap feels like Safestore work on the principle that people won’t query it and they make a lot of extra money and do not uphold their stated terms.

I was in desperate need of storage as we had to leave our home quicker than we expected. Safestore Eastbourne came up with the goods and we had 8 weeks at half price which helped us immensely whilst we were sorting out our new home.
All the staff at Eastbourne are very helpful and any requests I made were handled professionally and with great courtesy.
I would recommend Safestore Eastbourne to anybody who requires any form of storage as they have never let me down.

I've spoken with Safe store twice now.
Both times, I've been greeted and helped in a very positive manner, this has been a relief to be treated with such kindness and empathy during a stressful time. I can'r remember the name of the man who helped me the first time as I was on the road, I think it was Chris Young. He was so nice to speak to that I remembered to phone back. I then spoke to Jason White who ammended my original booking due to changes my end. He was also super helpful and promoted a 'can-do' attitude which has put me totally at ease that the provision at safestore will be perfect for my need. He provided me with information I didn't even think to ask for but was so good to know (such as access, choice of locks and trolleys for use) Because of this friendly and positive impact both times, I have not even bothered to search a secondary quote.

In a nutshell: DO NOT get an online quote from this company - unless you're okay with being spammed every day with calls and emails! It's genuinely on harassment levels at this point.
--
I only got a quote to compare prices and weigh options. I did not choose this company in the end and gave no further indication I would be pursuing them for my needs.
In an attempt to be constructive, my advice to Safestore would be to either leave things there, or send the max of ONE follow up; because further contact as you have done MULTIPLE times isn't (as I perceive) 'good customer service' - rather it's wasting time, as well as being plain irritating and straight up an annoyance. Harassing through contacts given just to get a quote has driven me away permanently - I don't need the headache when I'm moving home in future and need to store things temporarily, whilst work is getting done.
I have already made use of another company - and even now, I am still getting (now junk) emails because Safestore won't quit bothering me.
I've also had to block their number for the same reason - but they still keep leaving voicemails. This is a problem because if I'm going through my voicemail for people I DO want to hear from, Safestore is cluttering up half of it. It's absolutely unnecessary!

Thank you to Chris, Jo and Ben at Safestore Eastbourne from the family & executor for their efficient and professional service. Our uncle passed away whilst storing his stuff with Safestore and it got caught up in probate. The staff were kind and always happy to help. Whenever I called, they knew the position immediately, because his file notes were kept up to date and as none of the family are local, this was essential. Thanks again, Kate
