I bought some Whitby jet jewellery at…
I bought some Whitby jet jewellery at one of this company’s other shops based on the same street for my daughter,
I was told if the bracelet was too large to take it back and they would alter it free of charge,
I took it back today but the sister store I bought it from had closed down so went to this store,
I was told they couldn’t do it , it would have to be sent away at my cost and would take 6 weeks or more to get altered also at my cost
The sales assistant seemed more excited as when she read the receipt she knew the guy who had originally served me
All I got was “ oh it’s Paul, I will tell him one of his customers has been in”
Not what I expected, she needs to “tell Paul” he shouldn’t make promises he can’t keep !
Never will I shop here, there’s lots of other reputable jet shops around!

We would really appreciate the opportunity to look into this for you, as your bracelet adjustment may still be covered under our warranty. In some cases, Whitby Jet jewellery needs to be assessed and adjusted by our specialist workshop to ensure the British stones are not accidentally damaged during the repair process. Unfortunately, this can mean the item needs to be returned to our workshop rather than altered in-store.
We are sorry if this wasn't explained clearly during your visit, and we understand how this would have been frustrating, particularly as you had been given different expectations at the time of purchase. Sadly, our team was not aware the company would be going into Administration in January and that the Whitby Jet workshop would be closed when that event happened.

Went to this shop specifically for a piece of Whitby Jet jewellery. They have a wide selection with many beautiful pieces. Mark was knowledgeable, very helpful and there was no pressure to choose quickly. A lovely shopping experience. I'd definitely recommend this shop and they sell jewellery with other stones as well. The amber is worth checking out.

Great service and quality jewellery
I went to the Whitby store in May and was assisted by Kala who was really helpful. I got one ring I was after but the other was out of stock. I ordered the other ring I wanted online after confirming my ring size in store. It was made for me and delivered 8 days later. Emails were clear and helpful. Very happy with my purchases.

Customer service was spot on. Ordered ring for daughters 18th on line, after previous ring I ordered from another company fell through at last minute. They agreed to prioritise it and made it in two days so she would have it for her birthday. My daughter loved the ring saying it was "perfect and what she was looking for". Great Shop, Friendly Salesperson

Had to have a Jet/diamond ring repaired…
Had to have a Jet/diamond ring repaired which I purchased 10years ago. Via emails, Leah was extremely helpful in obtaining a repair price. I posted the ring for the repair and Leah acknowledged receipt imediately. The repair took just a few days, but she arranged for it to be kept safe as I would be away for a few days. As soon as I was home I requested the return, which she promptly did. Very pleased with the repair.
My experience with Leah and W Hamond over many years has been outstanding, and would highly recommend this business.

I had seen a necklace and matching earrings in the shop on my recent visit to Whitby. I meant to go back but didn't get the chance to. I really liked them and a couple of weeks later decided to phone the shop to see if I could ascertain if they were still there. Michaela answered and i could not believe my look as she remembered me. Trying to describe what i had seen would have been hard with so many items of jewelry in the shop. Michaela was so helpful and she even went to look for sets to photograph and to e-mail me as the shop had -had a change around so the set was not in the same place as i had described. She said she would get photos to me over the weekend but bless her she found two sets minutes after my call, e-mailed them and one of them was the set. Michaela was as delighted as I was and I can not thank her enough. Great service and beautiful jewelry.

I have now had a much better experience after Leah contacted me and has rectified the situation and restoring my faith in the company. Thank you Leah for helping us with this situation and I’m looking forward to receiving my newly repaired ring.
Dreadful experience with Hamonds in Whitby. I took my Whitby jet and mother of pearl ring to this store which was purchased from here a couple of years earlier and hardly worn but the pearl had fallen out of it. I left it with them for repair saying I’d be picking it up in a month when I return to Whitby. The woman I spoke to said they would call me back in a week but I didn’t hear anything. I’d already said I be would be able to pick it up when we visited Whitby a months later so then had to call them to ask about the ring 3 weeks later. I and spoke to a sales assistant about why I had not been contacted and asked if it would be ready when we come to get it the following weekend and she said yes it would be and she would ring me if not. No phone call was made to me so we got the bus from our campsite and went to the shop to be told it wasn’t ready and was still in ‘preparation’ or something and due to staff sickness it had not been repaired. When I asked why I hadn’t received a phone call the assistant was very sketchy about why I hadn’t heard back and also told me I would need to pay £7.50 for the ring to be sent back to me. After I protested this charge as I’d been clear about picking it up, the ring was finally sent back to me after they’d had it in their possession for 6 weeks and when I opened the parcel there was no repair! Overall it was an absolutely terrible and disappointing service and after purchasing quite a few items of jewellery from this company I have now lost faith and will never buy anything from them again, shocking treatment of customers. I wish I could give them zero stars. Avoid in my opinion as they don’t care about the customer experience whatsoever.
Ok, I will update this review as Sellers have responded and so far so good. I appreciate Leah’s response to allow them to make things right.

The shop on the Shambles was beautiful and it was a memorable experience. Mark was extremely helpful and friendly. The shop has a lovely selection of amber pieces and it was great to hear Mark's knowledge and passion for amber. He helped me choose an amber ring and pendant and was kind enough to tell me about some of my own amber pieces I was wearing. We will definitely be coming back when next in York
