🚩AVOID 1800RESPECT

They demand you retraumatise yourself before you speak to someone you feel safe with.ive got over 70+ recordings of them demanding i go into detail about pedophilia, rape, attempted murder and incest, and then hanging up on me when i said i didnt want to retraumatise myself.their complaints department is shameful.they do not monitor, look into, or reprimand their staff for discriminatory behaviour toward women with brain damage from dv.they do not even comprehend that they need appropriate training. Im going to sue them. Ive never used such a disgusting, disgraceful, narcissictic service as this one. They are on recording, and in email, attempting to use narcissictic tactics! Youre better off calling lifeline than this number. I guarantee its run by abusive women that gaslit their partners.they offer little to no support, and what they do offer, its more toxic than your abuser.AVOID🚩🚩🚩

Just terrible

Just terrible, cold hearted, never again will I ring the service or recommend it to others. I have experienced two years of stalking by a neighbour, I am having a very bad day today. In the past the call takers allowed me to talk things through based on the fact that stalking, intimidation and feeling unsafe can happen outside of the family unit. I have had some very good call takers in the past, I felt supported and grateful they simply let me talk but not today, I was immediately shut down and left feeling isolated and rejected even more and with no other options but Lifeline to ring. The call taker afterwards in a condescending manner said she would let me talk through my experiences with stalking after initially and abruptly shutting me down, I said no, I do not wish to continue this conversation afterall and I hung up. Awful and isolating experience.

Disgrace

Just read an article about a rape victim who, in trial, her phone call and conversations with 1800RESECT were given to the accused rapist to read in court. These conversations should be private and confidential. What a disgrace.

DISAPPOINTING SERVICE - TURNED AWAY

I don't know what has happened with this service but they have changed so much recently, and not in a good way.

I called up to speak with a Counsellor about concerns I had about my child due to domestic and family violence, and within the first two minutes of the call, she had decided for me that I didn't need their service and instead, gave me the numbers for two other services.

She completely missed the reason why I was reaching out for support, even though I clearly informed her I was concerned about my daughter who is a victim of family violence, and was in need of counselling, advice and support, none of which I received.

This woman didn't even think to first ask me if it was okay with me for her to give me the names and numbers of other support services, which made me feel that I was simply being rejected by this service and passed onto somebody else.

1800 Respect states the following on their website: 1800RESPECT is the national domestic, family and sexual violence counselling, information and support service.

I am a victim of domestic violence, and my daughter is a victim of family violence and I was contacting them for counselling, information, and support, yet I feel I was shunned and turned away by the very service I believed could help me.

What has happened to this service? It's so disheartening for me to think that a service I once heavily relied on and admired, is now treating victims and survivors in a similar way to their abusers - by not listening to their pleas for help and making them feel isolated and alone.

Well done - nice job. I know now I won't be relying on this service for counselling, support or information anymore. Those days are long gone.

Oh my.. no thank you

Oh my... I gave them 2 chances, so have 2 experiences to rate. 1st woman hung up on me after she argued with me and invalidated me experiencing domestic violence. How rude!? That is not their job to insult and judge. I was shocked. So I bravely rang back and I got someone who said " I've been a social worker 30 years" and started rattling off services I didn't ask for in a passive aggressive tone. Care factor zero. Just the attitude 😒 🙄 YUCK. Avoid. Also I couldn't find anywhere else to rate them - not on google reviews - found that interesting. I just lost my Mum and they advertise they give grief support. They don't.
