1899 along with its sister companies…
1899 along with its sister companies 18866 and 18185 have been providing cut price telephone service in the UK for many years. I have accounts with all three companies lasting for more than 10 years - each month the charge has been debited from the registered credit card in arrears.
Recently the company decided to insist on direct debits because of the 'significant number of defaults on credit cards'. My credit card payments have never been subject to default.
Nonetheless this change was not presented as a request but as an order with a general accusation regarding credit card defaults.
Today I finally wrote to the company about this and received an impolite reply saying 'you don't seem to understand that we are not taking credit card payments anymore'.
But of course I understand perfectly that this company wishes to simply take a very high-handed attitude - customers could be forgiven for looking for better deals elsewhere.
