SyncBackSE Review: Product & Customer Service

While not an IT pro or a programmer/coder, I have been building my own Windows computers for about 20 years, so not a newbie – and I am compulsive about backing up everything – from files and folders to full system.

I'll first address the software, then customer service.

The Product:

Once set up, it works really well and fast used manually and via schedules. I'm impressed. However as others have stated online, it could be more user friendly:

-- Creation of backup profiles is clunky: one has to browse for every single directory one wants to backup. It would be much faster through drag-and-drop, like the freeware Cobian backup has done since 2000.

-- By default, each profile does a “automatic slide-out” which one has close before running it and tell SynchBackSE to not do again. I don't know the purpose of this and my guess is that most people don't need or know what it is either.

I can be nerdy and work through such things for I deal with professional audio and video software that are rather complex.

But for the general consumer such setup hurdles for a backup program may be a bit confusing and frustrating.

So while it works great once set up, these issues resulted in my giving this review 4 out 5 stars.

Customer Service:

Due to some occasional instability with the full system image backup and restore program I have been using for many years, I looking into alternatives. ChatGPT and other sources seemed to say that SynchBack could do this also.

So I assumed the PRO version of SynchbBackSE would provide this and so I paid for the upgrade only to find out I was misinformed:

-- 2Brightsparks unfortunately does not included any system backup and restore software, be it via SynchBack or otherwise.

So I contacted the company within an hour or so of my purchase to inquire if any refund was possible. Response was fast and I was refunded within a day as a “product not as expected.”

This is rare as far as I know. A lot of companies won't refund any online software download purchase. So they were gracious. That matters IMO.

ChatGPT doesn't know everything

I was having problems with Syncback throwing errors on files with strange directory names so of course I asked chatgpt. We went back and forth for days trying various things and I was ready to trash Syncback. Then I checked the 2 BrightsSparks website for an answer and didn't find it, so I sent a message to their tech support people. They knew the correct answer and gave it to me quickly. Should have started there! Now I love Synchback!

One of my prefered software

Using the free version for more than a decade for all my backup activities, there is no equivalent. I had an issue recently connecting with a cloud service, the support was so reactive with perfect communication (to investigate a problem which was not on their side). Happy to buy the pro version now.

Very happy with SynchBack pro support

Very happy with SynchBack pro. Because backup is very important and often the saving angel, support is therefore very important. Needed support twice and within a few hours a solution was given / explained in detail how to adjust the setting to our wishes. If you need a reliable backup program with, if necessary, a sea of ​​extras and support, SynckBack pro is the best choice.

The support from Swapna was very…

The support from Swapna was very helpful. Incredible Swapna was online on new years eve and the yew years day also. With this Information I got SyncBack Touch running.
I using for many years SyncBack Pro for Windows.

Issue Resolved

I have had the program for several years and it is relatively bulletproof. On the rare occasion I have an issue, the support team responds quickly and resolves my issues immediately. It’s my understanding and settings that causes the issue-not the software. Great product and great service.

Must have software for all users

Two Things make this company top of its game. First the software SyncBack Pro is brilliant and performs the job its designed for magnificently. The software and its flexibility of options will suit the novice user right through to the most critical professional. The second is the people behind the company. From sales to support. Especially those in support are super helpful, very professional and extremely competent.

The perfect utility: Great functionality, great support, great value

Necessary information:
Bought first PC in 1983. From MS-DOS to Windows 11, it's been my hobby and profession.

Those who live this journey know how important utility programs are to your daily IT operation. And since 2003 when it was launched and I chance-discovered it, SyncBack Pro has been a cornerstone of my backup strategy. And not just backup, but "data management" may be a better term. I run three desktops and two laptops (and heap of test physical and VM hosts) - with three NAS boxes. Naturally I share data across them, and SBP does that for me. (Yes, I use four cloud providers, and SBP also helps keep them honest).
Here's the thing: I use backup applications too, but proprietary backed-up data can never be as nimble and quick to recover with, as copied data. So all my hi-priority data gets the SBP treatment, and I can quote many instances of where it has proved a lifesaver.

This current review was triggered by a support request - and let me quickly say that over the years, SBP support has been so efficient, quick, smooth, that you almost forget how good it is. That's the best kind of support.
Before I stop, I must give SBP a plug in an unusual area because of the relevance here: My support request was not for a problem with backup, but because I find that I use it even for a non-backup, standard, copy operation - especially when the copy needs to be selective. I usually would PowerShell it - but SBP has a great UI, it allows a test "simulated copy", and it gives me a log report of the operation. In other words, it makes a great one-off Windows file copy utility.
(I had a question about filters, hence the support request, answered within hours)

I willingly accept that I am a SBP fanboy... umm.. fanman. But that is because it has hard-earned its spot in my very top utilities of the past four decades of PC-work.

The best backup software for Windows

I think that SyncBackPro is the best backup software for Windows out there.

There is no subscription (the software is one-time purchase style, with the option to buy an annual maintenance plan), it is rich of features and its help file contains everything to learn the usage of the software.

The support is very responsive.

Top Support and best backup software

I have been using Syncback for many years and have always been very happy with it. I find it to be the best backup program for Windows and I use it for both my PCs and those of my clients. The free version has some limitations in its functionality but for home use it is fine. For office use it is much better to use the Pro version.
The assistance I asked for was about the possibility of sending logs via a personal Microsoft account. I had the answer and the resolution of the case in about an hour. So very quickly. Top Support!

Following a modification by Microsoft

Following a modification by Microsoft, an error arose with emailing log files in SyncBackPro software. I raised this with 2BrightSparks as a new issue and after supplying additional information to 2BrightSparks, a few days later, they sent me a Beta version of the software to trial a fix for the issue. I installed the trial version and it was successful and the error has gone.

I've been a customer of 2BrightSparks and have used SyncBack software for many years and have always found them to be extremely helpful.
