Castro and Rameri

Castro and Rameri, Dec.22, 2018, appear to be the same person. I think it was nice of 4ocean to respond to one, but I don't believe 4ocean owes them an explanation. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being "for profit" while helping our planet. If you weren't, you likely would not have the resources to do what you are now accomplishing. Your financial data, as you state, is no ones business but your company. Small minds = small people, with nothing to do but complain about successful individuals. It's called JEALOUSY!! Those than can "DO" - Some that can't "COMPLAIN." Keep up the good work ...more appreciated than not. I WOULD SUGGEST that Trust Pilot add a button so that readers can respond to writer comments directly,

Great cause, and great customer service. I ordered a bracelet that was mishandled by the post office This was not the fault of 4 Ocean ,but they responded in minutes and had two on the way to make up for the hassle. good job!

its ok the make money while supporting a cause

from reading reviews and research it looks like a worth while cause, im a diver and anything that cleans up our oceans is important.
to everyone complaining thats it a for profit company, I have no prob with it, if you look at non profits so many of them 25cents on the dollar goes to charity and the rest is administrative cost so whats the difference? it makes you feel better if it says "non profit" ???

as long as they do what they say great keep up the good work

Want to believe in the mission but worried

I am interested in 4Oceans from an environmental perspective. I am an ocean scientist and I am definitely very worried about the fate of plastics in the ocean. I received a bracelet as a gift from a friend which made me curious about the company. I have asked some probing questions through the Contact Us section of website. They provided a very prompt answer but it actually didn't answer my questions which have to do with HOW the recovered plastics are actually converted into the bracelets. I tried again but haven't received any additional answers. Which ocean debris plastics can they use for the bracelets? What industrial process do they use to make the beads? Heating plastics can cause harm to the environment too through release of dioxins etc. I appreciate the intent of the founders and removing plastics from the ocean is definitely a worthy cause but I am hoping that more harm isn't being done. Why not make the bracelets out of wood or other less harmful substance and just use the profits to remove the plastics and somehow remove them from circulation entirely (bury them)?

Private for Profit Org vs Not for Profit

I researched org to determine whether to donate: Below saw 4Ocean's reply about reasons for remaining private for profit organization: "We are a private company rather than a non-profit because we want to maintain a sustainable business model that’s going to last through many economic recessions, as well as doing a great job cleaning the oceans all around the world for a long time to come." As an accountant I want to let the principals know although there are reporting requirements associated with formation as a Not for Profit Not for Profit status in itself would not hinder corp. ability or longevity.

Love the bracelets and the cause

Love the bracelets and the cause, only wish they held up a little better, I’ve now had 2 break, the first had a knot fall to pieces and the second the string snapped in the middle of the beads both in under a year, so sad, but love the company and will continue to support.

Profit for a good cause.....

I gave this company a middle of the road rating although I have no experience with them at all except seeing their advertisements on you tube. I was intrigued and began the process of ordering a bracelet. I read the reviews here and, although there are not a significant number of negative comments, I began evaluating the company more once I saw they were a "for profit" company. For $20, I can receive a bracelet that cannot cost more than $0.50 to make. The only commitment the company makes is to remove "1 pound" from the beaches. It appears they gather volunteers for this, so I suspect the cost for this is also not that great. It would seem to me that, if this project is the passion of the founders, they would become a qualified charitable organization spending almost all of the proceeds to further their mission. The principals can still take very nice salaries, but they would do more to accomplish their goal. Maybe this forum is a good place for those principals to disclose salaries and the net profit they generate. We all like transparency when giving our money to a cause. While I support causes like these, I wonder if we would not do more if we all contribute $20 and pay people to clean up the beaches. Just my opinion.

Hi there Terry,

While 4ocean does offer community cleanup opportunities in which volunteers come out to hosted events, we employ over 250 folks full time in 3 countries to date. We also own and operate 21 boats, including a 135-foot vessel capable of pulling over 300,000lbs of trash in a single trip. To date, our employees have pulled nearly 3 million lbs of trash from the ocean and coastlines and are hoping to grow that number exponentially in the coming year as we expand our presence into other high impact areas. We are a private company rather than a non-profit because we want to maintain a sustainable business model that’s going to last through many economic recessions, as well as doing a great job cleaning the oceans all around the world for a long time to come.

Lets spread the knowledge of 4Ocean across the world

I ordened my two bracelets just before Christmas, and it took approx. 2weeks to ship to Denmark. However I love my bracelet and I am happy to give the other bracelet to my friend! Your cause is totally worthy, no matter where the trash is picked up. Hope you find a partner once in Scandinavia/ Europe to help you distribution/sell your bracelets and further your cause. Will ordre again... and when I go to Thailand/ Vietnam next month I will have you in mind

So Glad I Found this Company

Simple to use website. Ordering the bracelet was easy. I immediately received an 'order confirmation' email followed by a tracking link for shipping. It arrived about a week later. They were fast and efficient. Glad I found them and have one of their bracelets!

Ordered 2 bracelets and the first…

Ordered 2 bracelets and the first loosened up almost immediately and can't be tightened. So not great quality on the bracelet. But hopefully the company does good work and that was the incentive to get the bracelet.

Great bracelets, great organisation!

I love the cause and the limited edition partnership with organisations that help the planet one bit at a time. I usually don't buy stuff from charity organisations/companies because I don't know how much I can trust them but 4ocean has the average of a pound a bracelet and recycle plastic and glass into the bracelet, organise beach clean up and team up with different organisations each month. This makes me feel safe that my money is going to help somehow (and I get a cute bracelet too!). 4ocean isn't a nonprofit organisation though but this doesn't bother me because of all the stuff they do with the money.

I've already bought the shark, sustainable fishing and dolphin bracelets. The bracelets themselves are really well made in my opinion and the adjustable tie doesn't come loose. I'm not sure but I think the bag it comes in says that they're handmade in Bali and not cheaply in some factory.

The costumer service is incredible! My sustainable fishing bracelet got torn off by my boyfriend's five year old and within the hour of me tweeting them, they replied and shipped a new one to me.

If the organization is legit

If the organization is legit, I think it is a good cause. However, I found the bracelets to be very cheap looking and where not adjustable for sizing. I ordered one for my husband, who is a large man, and the bracelet would not fit. It was too small On the other hand, the one I ordered for me was too big and unable to be tightened. My suggestion is to use a stretchable band so that one size can fit all.

Hi there Kathie,

I'm so sorry to read the bracelets weren't adjusting as they should. That's certainly not the 4ocean norm. There are a couple of options we have. https://vimeo.com/303577998/88873f09e3 This video will show you how to tighten and loosen the slipknot if that doesn't work, we've found soaking the bracelets in warm water for a few minutes will generally loosen the knot just enough for the adjustment to be made. If that still doesn't work, please don't hesitate to reach out to us at info@4ocean.com and we'll be happy to have replacements sent out right away.

Love this company

I received my bracelet as a gift from a friend who knows my passion for reduced plastics and ocean clean up. I love it! I haven't taken it off and so far it's held up wonderfully. I'll be purchasing them monthly to help this cause and the others that they give to.

As for profit vs non-profit, I will say that I support their mission and ideas so I am okay with the fact they are for profit. As long as they maintain their promise to clean the ocean and coasts, I'm not going to complain that they make money at the same time. So many companies do nothing but make more trash/plastic pollution and they profit from it; 4Ocean has a minimum donation and it helps know they are still helping.

I suppose it's ok. Seems like a good enough cause, even if it's not a non-profit. I'm all for capitalism, as bad as it is, beats all the alternatives. BUT, still haven't received my items. In this day and time, there is simply no excuse for this slow shipment.
