Not a great site

Not a great site. They seem to require auto renewal on their memberships, don't cancel when requested, then claim you don't get a refund from an auto renewal account. They won't reply to questions about it either. Really expensive, not worth the cost. Total ripoff, better off elsewhere.

Used to be good but for the money I'm not sure I get value and the royalties paid are a joke and they are unable to explain why the royalties paid are so bad.

Still fine for the community and the odd post but not worth investing money in.

500PX USED TO BE GOOD BUT NOW UN-ETHICAL WITH NEW FOREIGN OWNER.

Use to be a great website now absolute horrible when they sold it. Now without tell their customer they jack up the Pro price from $4 a month to $119.00. I only spend less than 2 month out of a year on the website and it is worth $119??? Thier business practices now feels really un-ethical. It is really disappointing. I discontinued my account with this awful company.

If I could give this review zero stars…

If I could give this review zero stars I would.
I had an annual pro membership and they set it to automatically renew. I had decided that it was no longer worth keeping the membership, especially at their expensive renewal rate. When I got the notice that it was going to automatically renew, I attempted to follow their instructions to cancel the renewal. However, even though I was logged in to my account, it was showing that I only had a "Basic" membership (free) and therefore would not give me the option to cancel the renewal. The only options I was given were to upgrade to a different membership. This occurred on a Saturday. Their support is only available on weekdays. Then my account was charged the full renewal fee on Sunday morning.
I contacted them immediately to report the problem and request a cancellation and refund. They replied on Monday and stated that everything was working on their end and since I failed to cancel before the renewal, I was not eligible for a refund.
I do not wish to have a Pro membership anymore. I tried to cancel. Their system failed and now they have stated that they are keeping my money. This is extremely unethical.

Stay away

Stay away! I decided to upgrade from ”awesome” to ”pro” when only 3 months into my awesome sub. I the noticed that they’ve changed too many things in the pro tier, and wanted a refund. They did refund the charge for the upgrade, but me ”awesome” account was deleted, and the USD 50 Value remaining in my ”awesome” tier they kept in their pockets, and I now have a free account, even if I paid.

Unreliable and shady

Unreliable and shady.

Don't expect to be able to grow on this platform. They lure you into it by giving you a free pro medal for the first weeks or something, and when it's no longer valid your engagement falls drastically. Their "pulse" mechanisms is biased, the editors are biased, they promote each other and very specific types of photography that are hot atm. Beautiful woman models always seem to make it before anything else in the editor picks. This platform stinks badly.. Sorry!

Fraud company

I have used 500px for more than 5 years and I decided to subscribed to Pro membership with the discount. However, like many other subscriptions, I always disabled auto renewal right away or added into the calendar to remind myself to unsubscribe. However, they automatically enabled it without my knowledge and had never sent any reminder that the auto renewal would be coming up. Yesterday I woke up with the horrendous service fee of $120 for a service that I have not used for many months. Usually merchants would gladly refund within a day of charge but they arrogantly sent me an email berating me that it was my fault to agree to the charge (that I never accepted to). This company is a fraud and their service has been degrading greatly over the year. Now they are overrun with weird creepy people that sent inappropriate messages to me and their licensing process is a joke. I'd rather have my own website that I license and sell my photos directly. I've talked with my bank to dispute this charge and if any victims would like to band up to file a suit against them, I'd be glad to do join.

500 px d*ck move

Like the other comments, first, you have a nice discount (50-75%) so you want to try just one year to see. BUT, they keep your credit card number. One year later, SUPRISE!!!!! 55€ for me (110€ for some other people) disapear BECAUSE THE ANNUAL RENEWAL IS AUTOMATICALLY ACTIVATED!!!

You can guess the next, they refuse to refund the customer because it's write in a tiny sentence of the terms of use. BREAKING NEWS! Nobody on the planet have the time to read them! (even South Park did an episod on this subject)

It's call "Thief" on my planet and we are on the same.

Avoid 500px like you would a plague

My credit card was suddenly charged $119 without warning and without my permission, at the worst possible time. I politely asked if I could be charged monthly, otherwise I could not afford a membership. They refused so I deactivated the account. They still refused to give me my money back and when I complained they said I am now "banned" from their site. I now have to dispute the charge with Visa and possibly file a police report. A website subscription is certainly not worth $119 per year. Their customer service is, obviously, pretty awful.

Poor platform, dismal support

Had been a free user for years and never took things any more seriously than that. During covid-19 lockdown I decided to upgrade and pursue my interest in photography more so paid for their Pro version.

First round of images went up and I enjoyed the notifications of views and likes, and checking the stats. That was great. Uploaded more and surprised to see how long the Pulse ratings lasted and stayed high, and how images were viewed several days later too. All great.

Then I uploaded some new images. Hadn't expected much of them. But instantly views and likes start to happen again. The following day I half-excitedly checked to see how many more likes they had had - and zero. In fact number of views were zero. My photos were not being shown or viewed to anyone - not my new ones, not the older ones. Nothing.

Contacted support - they told me it was nothing to do with them, it was all based on popularity and what their users wanted to view. They ignored what I had to show them that demonstrated photo views stopped suddenly (all photos) and how even recent photos were popular in those first couple of hours - but the stopped being viewed dramatically. Basically their response was "nothing to see here - our users must not want to view your photos". Which was patently not true.

They wasted my time so I posted what I thought of 500px in an image - at which point they decided to eventually provide the refund I had otherwise asked for, and deleted my profile. No word yet from them about whether they will be providing me with copies of my images to ensure none are lost forever.

What a dismal service, and even more dismal support team.

Was keen to share my photos on here but…

Was keen to share my photos on here but wish I had read these reviews first. Managed to get couple of images uploaded and thought I would sign up for their discounted membership - tried for a couple of days but simply couldn't get onto the log in page. Customer service implied it was something wrong with my computer and/or me. Glad to see someone else described them as arrogant. No option but to ask for my account to be deleted.

Just looking for the money, they have lost their touch

I have been happy for 2 years with 500px till now. I subscribed to a Pro account and recently I checked all my subscriptions as they continue growing and I cancelled several. Unsure about 500px, I received an email saying my subscription was about to renew, so I logged in the day I was about to be charged (still not charged, though) and I saw in my account that marked my account as "Free". So I thought, "ok, I actually cancelled it" and logged off and didn't give it more thought until the night, where I saw that I had been charged for the full price of the full year. Funny enough, there was a promo in the same page of your settings that offered a 60% discount (that was not applied to me, of course, ok, fair enough). Immediately, I contacted support to inform about this issue, and their response has been that, as I had auto renew, not only it could not be modified, I was not entitled to a refund even if I wanted to cancel my account. Now, if you have 500px, go to your account, to your settings, and look for the cancel account. IT IS NOT THERE. You can only deactivate the account, but it will not cancel it. It will remove your photos from the page but they will still keep them. I still did it, of course, and now I will be charged for the full year even if I only used it for several hours. HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED, look for other, more honest services.

500px has went to hell in a hand…

500px has went to hell in a hand basket. You can still post photos and I do but the stats have been broken for a year now they cannot or do not want to fix it. It is kind of sad I posted a lot of images here on 500px and used to enjoy it. Their support team has always been very poor but I am not sure but I think they have all folded up shop and left.

I use youpic now for the last year and a half and like it much better and since the stats do not work anymore there is little value to me to keep posting on 500px anyway and I have forty thousand likes and have been a very loyal poster and follower. Whoever they sold it to does not care about this site or the user experience and it shows. Flickr is going away I am not sure what site will form to pick up the slack but it would be nice if someone did.

Used to be ok, now just terrible community and service.

Sad to see how this site fell from grace. And when I tried to pull out, I found I can't download my images in bulk. So I'm basically a hostage to their site. While I have most of my images elsewhere, there are a few I don't and I figured to be safe I would download all, but I"m finding out my photos are not my photos. There is no easy way to get my info off the site. That is truly mindblowing and a good reason for me leaving....I can try to license them all and then download one by one, but that's 350 clicks...not a fun day.

Seriously fed up. Moving on, not going to deal with them any more or recommend them to anyone.

Not sure if they know what they are doing!

Sent in 6 pics and all were rejected. Although the ratings for these pics averaged 90 out of 100 I was not good enough. I proceeded to not join. Since then, I have been receiving emails from them. When I try to unsubscribe, they want me to sign in but I can’t because the account is closed. Aside from not knowing a good photo from a bad photo, they cannot even run a website!

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY

BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY. 500PX HAS NO ETHICAL STANDARDS.
I originally subscribed 500px for £37/year to try the pro-platform. I've never made any money of the photos I uploaded , neither made useful contacts, so I stopped using it. I wasn't aware of the auto-renewal, and a year later I received an email that my subscription has been renewed for £102!!!!!!!!

I emailed them to cancel my renewal and to request the refund, but they denied it, claiming they sent an email of reminder 7 days prior of the renewal, however I DID NOT receive any email from them regarding the renewal, only marketing emails, and I'm not alone. They are lying!!!

In this strange times of lockdown, most of us are out of work, with no prospect of work for the next 4-6 months. What 500px is doing is imoral and dishonest.
