99Bikes - where every bicycle comes with a free course on Australian Consumer Law
I purchased a bike from this store and the handlebars fell off within a month while I was riding. This constitutes a 'major failure' under Australian Consumer Law and entitles the consumer to choose between a refund, replacement or repair. The sales staff at the store lied to my face and infringed upon my consumer rights by telling me that their store policy does not allow refunds after 30 days, and offered a replacement.
I wasn't aware at the time that this was a complete lie, and accepted the replacement.
Within another 4 months, the back wheel of the bike fell off causing another fall. Again they refused to give me a refund, and offered a replacement infringing upon my consumer rights a second time. They rescinded their offer for a replacement when they realised the bicycle was scratched and they could not sell it to another customer (the managers actual words - wtf). Instead they offered a repair which I refused.
I went and studied Australian Consumer Law and discovered that this mob engage in shady and borderline illegal behaviour, and must give you a refund if your product suffered from a 'Major Failure'.
Further, according to Consumer Affairs Victoria: "Signs or store policy that state 'no refunds' are unlawful, because they imply it is not possible to get a refund under any circumstance - even when there is a problem with the goods or service, like a defect or lack of due care and skill.".
After dealing with this s**** show for months, repeated visits to the store and disrespectful back and forths with their customer service - I sic'd Consumer Affairs Victoria on them and they quickly capitulated and offered me a refund.
I would be very wary purchasing a bicycle from this store. They were willing to take a faulty bicycle that I was returning and put it back on their showroom floor and sell it to another customer. They will trample on your consumer rights and do their best to make your life difficult so you back down and don't pursue your legal entitlements.

While I’ve had a number of challenges with my bike across different stores, I want to give credit where it’s due — Alberto from Airport West has been absolutely fantastic. His customer service, communication and willingness to help have really stood out. Much appreciated!
Customer experience was poor.
Bought a bike from the website (it was a good price) so I was ok with that part of the experience. The payment was taken. I received an email saying your bike is ready for pick up in store. I arrive and the bike wasn't ready. The sales person was messing around with the gears, shaking his head, then there were two of them. After about half an hour of waiting around I said, "I would come back", they agreed. I came back a few hours later and the shop was busy, the salesman looked at me and then proceeded to serve several other customers. I waited another 10-15 minutes before I needed to go. I did not get to pick the bike up. I emailed them and explained I was disappointed about not being able to collect the bike and would they be willing to deliver it (which I believed was fair given they wasted my time). No reply. Two days later I had an opportunity to drop by the store, I was then asked a million questions - who is the bike for? Has it been paid for? Mate, I am not a criminal, just want my bike. Customer experience was very poor, I had questions but felt like they weren't interested in answering them so I wont be going back there in the future. Airport West Store.

This time I purchased the headphones that play through your cheek bones so you can still hear what's happening on the road. Bought my own birthday present so they're still in the box for a couple more weeks.

I took my giant mountain bike in for a simple gear adjustment they told me I needed a new chain new cable and new cassette and to do this I had to get a $160 service as well so I agreed as I want to keep my bike perfect after picking the bike up I rode about 50 to 60m before the chain flung off and jammed between the front chainring and frame it pulled the rear derailleur up and bent it to the side of the frame.i returned the bike to the store where they attempted to get away with pulling the chain out and giving the bike back damaged so I complained and they then claimed to have replaced the damaged parts and repairs the bike but not the scratched paint on the frame "or replaced the skin that was ripped off my leg from falling off the bike when it jammed" so I took the bike home and sure enough first ride the chain came off again on thoroughly inspecting the bike I realised they had lied to me and not replaced the damaged chain or rear cassette and the rear derailleur had just been bent back.i contacted the store and told them I wanted a refund for the faulty service and the damage to my bike paid for the manager said no and that he would sell me another bike with a discount.unhappy with this I contacted VCAT and was told yes the store is liable for all damages to the bike caused by poor workmanship and I am entitled to a full refund of the new parts I paid for as they are now damaged and unusable due to the faulty service.nim the store manager then changed his offer to a free bike of the same price and specs as my giant talon unfortunately when I picked up the replacement bike it is of poor quality is no where near the same specs as the giant and the forks are jammed in the locked position so I was swindled by taking his word over the phone that 99bikes would replace the damaged bike but I was given a piece of junk and most likely it's a bike another customer probably returned on warranty.....never buy or deal with 99 bikes again.

Put my daughter's bike in to have chain tightened. Staff member noticed the cable had become disconnected from gear selector, so asked for that to be attended to as well. When I collected the bike, the chain was fixed (and at a VERY reasonable price, thanks), however the staff member pointed out the loose cable and told me he couldn't reconnect it. Huh? Bike mechanic? Feel that someone should have called me to either explain this prior to collection or if they were unsure to go ahead with this additional repair, someone could have checked with me. Otherwise nothing but positive experiences when dealing with this business.
