A great way to invest in councils and help communities deliver on their climate change targets whilst at the same time receiving a low risk return.
Abundance Investment is a great platform for socially responsible investments and they help bring together great projects with a like-minded investment community.

No longer suitable for small investors

I been an investor with Abundance for many years, but an investor readiness test has just been introduced, which I have failed 3 times. Although the largest amount I have ever invested in any particular project is £100, and I am prepared to lose all my money if a particular project fails, I am still not allowed to invest because I have not passed the test. The test is targeted at large investors, and I understand it is necessary for them, but I really do not want to waste any more time on this and am withdrawing the cash I hold in my account.

Hi Elizabeth,

We do have a questionnaire that you need to complete before making a new investment, to ensure you understand the type of investment and risks involved. You don’t have to take the test every time you invest, but we may need you to occasionally retake the test.

The test is a requirement from the Financial Conduct Authority as part of the regulatory rules that apply to the types of investment we offer, and it applies to all investors no matter how much they are thinking of investing. Unfortunately we therefore can’t let you invest without passing our investor questionnaire.

We appreciate it can be frustrating to fail the test, particularly if you are only looking to invest a small amount and feel like you understand the investment. We are strong believers that you should be able to invest no matter how much money you have to invest, which is why we have a low minimum investment of just £5, however it’s important to make sure you understand the key features and risks of our investments before you invest, no matter how much you are considering investing.

I will follow up with you by email to see if we can do anything else to help.

Kind regards,
The Abundance Team

Investing in a council feels good

I have made a number of investments with Abundance in recent years, most recently investing in Southwark Council. Investing in a council feels good -- putting my money to good work for the community and environment. The Abundance customer service team have also been very helpful - thanks!

Trustworthy, profitable and green

I've invested on multiple occasions with Abundance, always had a positive experience and fully support its green ambitions. Most recently, I participated in the funding round for Hackney council, and hope to invest again in future. Strongly recommended.

A crowdlending platform on a great…

A crowdlending platform on a great mission, but too many of the investments offered are now currently in default or massively delayed on repayments of both interest and principal. More could be asked of the due dilligence it seems. For people with a higher riskappetite and climatefriendly investment profile, Abundance might be a good platform to invest in

Council Investment

Investing in councils is so easy to do on the Abundance website and you can feel confident in helping to create a greener future, with some pretty decent returns too.

I love investing with Abundance!

I absolutely love investing with Abundance Investment - it is so much more interesting & satisfying investing when you know where your money is going, and in particular, knowing that my money is supporting projects that are actively aimed at doing good in the world. I have been an investor for many many years and I have invested in lots of amazing projects, and more recently, the lower risk Council Green Finance projects which support Council's sustainability agenda. Of course, one does have to understand the risks of investing in this way; and Abundance do a good job in helping you understand the risks.

USED to be solid; NOW you might as well put your money on a horse

USED to be fairly solid solar farm etc investments, with pretty solid due diligence and a pretty nifty M'my account' system; NOW a load of duff investments that they don't properly do DD on, loans to councils that aren't really any better than a one year cash ISA and a new awful web system. They can't even seem to load text based updates from the MANY defaulted investment updates - A4 PDF on a smartphone screen anyone. Have seriously lost their way.

Save your money - stick it in a cash ISA and do something useful with the money that you won't lose.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're sorry to hear you've had a poor experience investing with us.

On Abundance you can choose to invest in higher risk investments from companies, or lower risk investments from councils. You can read more about Abundance’s role in relation to our company investments here (https://help.abundanceinvestment.com/en/articles/3947968-our-role-over-the-life-of-an-investment) and our role in relation to council investments here (https://www.abundanceinvestment.com/legal/loan-disclosures).

We have always maintained rigorous due diligence procedures to ensure that the investments offered on our platform meet the highest standards of transparency, legality and financial sustainability - that level of due diligence has not changed. Our extensive due diligence is done in advance of a company raising funding through Abundance and typically takes months to complete. However our due diligence process does not mitigate the risks that can affect any of the investments available on Abundance - so we make sure there are clear risk warnings throughout the process of choosing to invest on Abundance.

Our council investments are a lower risk investment and therefore the rate of return will typically be lower than our company investments - you can learn more about the lower risks of our council investments here: https://www.abundanceinvestment.com/councils/risks-of-lending-to-councils.

In terms of updates provided to investors from the companies or councils they have invested in, we typically provide these in the same format that they are given to us by the companies/councils - to ensure we maintain their formatting and branding where applicable. This means they can sometimes be PDFs for longer updates, but where they are shorter we do post these on the platform as simple HTML text. We will take on board your feedback though and see if there is a way we can publish updates in a format that is more mobile friendly.

Update from my earlier review after Abundance reply...

The reply is almost word-for-word the bland response I mentioned in my review. Nothing has changed and the new website and customer interface is still a big backward step
