This is a SCAM going on in many countries around the world (Australia, Denmark, Hungary, New Zealand, Romania, UK, etc.) since at least 2012. There are almost no real people that you can get in contact with, not to mention "academics". The bogus company under which they operate is BE2 registered in Luxembourg. There is no use in trying to contact this company because you will get no answer. They charge you a small fee for the first month and, starting from the second month of subscription, they take many time more than the fee you agreed to open your account on their website. Recently, they have changed their MO and now retrieve large sums of money from people's bank accounts, even multiple times a month. Once you register, they have your credit card data and have access to your bank account until your credit card expires. You simply cannot end your subscription. Under no circumstance should you send them a request of ending the subscription, sign it and give them your home address. They will start sending at home letters from a so-called "debt collecting company" in order to intimidate you claiming absurd amounts of money. Do not pay them anything, the debt collecting company is just another scam, don't fall for that. They are doing this illegally and they know it, they simply rely on the fact that people scare off easily and pay when they receive such letters. The police or consumer protection cannot do anything because these guys cannot be located anywhere, they operate internationally. If you happen to have registered with "academic singles" or "be2", contact IMMEDIATELY your bank and request the bank to DENY the payment of your money towards the company Be2 because you have been defrauded. Provide the bank proof of the fraud. If you announce the bank in due time (there is a maximum number of days from the day of the payment to Be2 until you contact the bank) they can initiate procedures and get all your money back. If you exceed this period, the bank cannot help you and banks are the only ones to be able to do something. Until you solve this issue via your bank, if you cannot cancel your credit card immediately, set the payment limit to 0. The scammers will try to withdraw money from it every month until it expires. Hope this helps. Beware of any automatically renewable subscriptions, they are extremely tricky and dangerous!

What a rip off. Not too much chance to interact. Default e-mails when someone sends a message. Based on algorithms, not people. A complete waste of time - all they want is your money...

Stay clear, as many said before, they advertise lies and they try to delay your cancellation and keep charging you. They lied about not receiving the cancellation when in their previous email they asked me to confirm it. I will report them to consumer protection.

This website delayed cancellation on purpose ,they advertised lies ,I subscribe for 1 month only ,cancellation was a nightmare sies ,they resply with attitude.They make sure cancellation tap is removed to delay cancellation now they wanted to debit R1197 from my bank acc

If your thinking of joining, be aware that this is a scam site. To leave you have to send them a signed form, which I did. Under their terms you are allowed 14 refund, which I did.
All my mails were ignored. Now I am receiving dodgy requests for further payment or being sent to a debt collector. It’s now with trading standards and visa fraud

I live in South East Queensland and all of a sudden just about every match came from Bangaroo or The Rocks. Checked my profile and found out that it said that I came from Bangaroo even though that was not the area I nominated. I was getting messages from people in Sydney but none from my local area. Lot of scammers on this site who want your email address or phone number.

**Scroll down to the end for THE solution to difficulty cancelling subscription/membership aka the entrapment—a little something that is build very much so into their business model.

1.Very misleading with regard to subscription-related method of payment, for example, monthly or annually direct debit; it advertises that there is a choice yet they debited my account the entire cost of my six monthly subscription after I had chosen, or *thought* I’d chosen, direct debit on a monthly basis.

2.They make it almost impossible to cancel your subscription. They did not accept my notice of intention to cancel my subscription which I could 0NLY communicate via email as I don’t own or have access to either a desktop computer, laptop, air printer or scanner, three of which you need to successfully cancel your subscription (sounds CRAZY cause it is! (More on this later). I know this because I got a reply from the same email address I’d send my intention to cancel email within the required timeframe, so, I know, for sure, that they received by email in time.
Also, I couldn't deactivate my membership on their website as I needed to cancel my subscription!! (They tell you this on the weirdly constructed “membership” page where it says you can deactivate and cancel your subscription). My email re notice of cancellation was to the same customer service email address (see below) and well within the required timeframe, and I expressed to them in that email that this was the only way that I could communicate with them/cancel my subscription, i.e., via email. My email contained, very clearly, ALL of the information they ask for (which you can see on their Cancelation Form on their website) and my email also included by signature. (Luckily, I very recently received an Apple Pencil as a gift! Phewww!)

THE PROBLEM: if you don’t have a desktop or laptop you will need to print out their Cancelation Form either on a tablet or smartphone but ONLY if you have an Air printer as that’s how you print from the latter devices. THEN, you need to scan it (if you have a scanner) and email the scanned form as an attachment (only three file formats accepted) to their customer service email address. The form must include your own signature and be done at least fourteen days prior to end of subscription/renewing subscription.

Otherwise, load up that Cancellation Form if you have a desktop computer or a laptop, use a standard printer to print said form, fill it out and sign it, then scan it and attach to your email and send to same email address (the customer service email address).

Otherwise, you can print out the cancelation form with a standard printer or air printer and fax it or post it to Luxembourg. It’s ridiculous!!!! You sign up on your phone or tablet so you should be able to successfully cancel on those devices! I hope everyone can see how this process is made very hard to ensure they can keep taking your money. It has to be unlawful. My explanation is just about as convoluted as their cancellation process, haha.

3. The technology of their website is pretty poor such that, *at least* half of the time, you are matched with members who vastly differ from the parameters that you’ve specified in your personal search criteria. For example, I set my search criteria to match me with only university-educated men who were within a certain age bracket. However, the majority of matches reached only high school level of education and the vast majority were way out of my desired and specified age bracket! Also, there were plenty of matches from other states of my country aside from Victoria whereas I’d specified men from only Victoria.
Further, It’s also rather buggy! These particular issues were present throughout the entirety of my six month subscription period.

4. Tonight, I did a test for a few hours to test for bots and it appears that the site uses bots anywhere from a quite a lot to A LOT! To be fair and from what I’d say, conservatively, they appear to use bots from a moderate to a reasonably high degree. So, yeah, you may be mostly talking with robots. Great!

ADVICE: Please don’t be fooled by their advertising. It’s bull.... and take heed of my experience. Good luck!!

SOLUTION TO CANCELATION PROBLEM: Don’t bother with the cancellation process unless you have a desktop or laptop, a scanner and standard printer. Even then, beware. Instead, ring your bank to cancel your debit/credit card at least 14 days prior to end of subscription/subscription renewal date. Receive new card in post. They definitively cannot bill you again! I checked with securities with my bank.

Oh, apparently they are a US company so maybe office in Luxembourg to avoid tax?? Phew! Sorry for the length!! Hopefully we’ll all find love before long 😌 & hope this is helpful

Just been scammed by this site. Took £191.76 instead of £6.99. Pure unadulterated theft. I have reported it to PayPal and the police. Impossible to cancel your subscription, so have blocked them on email, phone and PayPal. I want my money back Academic Fraudster scum.

Scam and money hungry. No matches that match my bio. Could not cancel online... Then they carry on taking money when I explained I am having difficulty canceling. They said the cancelation instructions is clear in tandc... Ie, the fine print.

I’m chasing a refund and have done a double stop on my bank, to prevent further charges.
Absolutely no “academic singles” from what I saw. I did see a phd doctor who put up a supermodel pictures and looked in her 20s. Age 48. So I suspect a load of fake accounts to make it look like there is activity.
Shame as the site is designed well, though just seems to lack and honest marketing and as you will read huge hurdles to cancel and many people being overcharged. Even when I called the bank to block them, the lady said she had a friend who had been incorrectly charged multiple times. Seems to be a recurring theme.

Not even one star. They took over $400 out of my paypal account . Not authorized, ( I was going to pay monthly ) . There is no way to unsubscribe so they will try again. And apparently go after you if you dont keep paying, this according to my friend who was also scammed. I think even the people on it are not real. Stick with companies that at least dont SCAM you and you can talk to them if there's a problem. This faceless company has an alias name and is located in Brussels. No chance of getting your money back!

This is probably the worst dating site ever. They don’t check that photos are of the person so there is lots of opportunities for scamming. I’ve been scammed by “Dave” ex us military working as a “contractor “ with the MOD. Lots of global clandestine operations with top military and government officials in Westminster. Who believes this garbage.

They are a total scam with people who are not who they say they are and they take money off of your credit card without your agreement of the amount. I cancelled within the first month which I paid for and then got charged 3 months
for cancelling!!!! Their options are the worst I have ever come across on a dating site and basically they are a scam as they make it virtually impossible to unsubscribe and deactivate... They are just there to take your money and keep on doing so until to block your account or credit card!!! Unbelievable actually!!! They get less than zero as a rating!!!

I just got scammed by Academic Singles. I have cancelled my card just now which seems to be the only way to deal with them. They took £180 before I cancelled it. I wish I'd checked the reviews before subscribing. Live and learn.

AcademicSingles is absoutely fraudulent money-vacuum site that must be avoided like plague! Look elsewhere if you search for relationship. They make money on auto subsciptions and auto-renewals and on making it impossible for people to cancel their subsciption. An old trick in the scam book and AcademicSingles' owners make mulit-million profits out of this trick.

Again one of the services that keep charging your money even though you cancel the subscription well before the deadline. Nothing else but a scam.

I reported this mob to the Luxemburg Government sent in hundreds of horrible reviews of how these robbers are simply getting away with hurting people.....sadly probably Gov wont do a thing about them.........!

The idea of an academic dating site is based on a good premise- academics or those who are otherwise academically inclined to find others like themselves. This website, however, is not at all academic. Ok, some of the men are, but on the whole, many hold college qualifications or less. Many of the men do not have pictures. Furthermore, they are not academically inclined- one man lists his job as 'sex', and has no picture. I asked for my money back on the same day I signed up. They sent me an email back telling me that as I had used their services they were going to charge me- I had used it once on the same day. They further told me as a goodwill gesture, my account will expire in February- fairly sure that that is when it was going to expire anyway. AVOID !
