I attended ACES today at Milton Keynes to undergo YAG laser treatment for my cloudy implants after cataract surgery a few years ago.
The care and attention was excellent and the results were truly life changing and immediate.

I had my operation at the Wisbech clinic. From the start of the process to actually having the cataract operation was extremely swift which is so unusual with the NHS these days. The staff were all very helpful and supportive and the service extremely professional.

I had a pre operative assessment at Wisbech and found staff to be polite, helpful and knowledgeable. I was given all the information i needed and more.
Time frames between being referred and being contacted for an appointment was just a few days. within a month of referral i will have had both cataracts removed and corrective lenses fitted. Very quick service.

My optician referred me to ACES Wisbech 11th August 2025, on the same day I received a phone call to book my pre-op assessment. This was on 20th August, I had my first surgery on 25th August and my second surgery is booked for 15th September. The clinic is easy to find, and has a good size carpark. The clinic itself is clean, tidy and well organised. My overall experience with ACES Wisbech as an NHS patient has so far been exceptional. The staff have been very professional, helpful and caring. Each process is carefully explained and questions answered in detail. I would highly recommend this team

At yesterday's appointment, I was told that the doctor always required vision checks, even though my referral was for an examination and opinion on the lump on my lower eyelid. The referal was made by a Specsavers Optician, who together with his team, had carried out these using far more superior equipment. However, these pre-checks were carried out quickly and efficiently on my arrival. We then had to wait well over an hour to be seen by the doctor, Mr Jakary. During this wait, my husband and I saw 4 members of clinic staff, sitting on the reception desk, chatting and wandering, it appeared, aimlessly from room to room, giving the impression that they were busy. One appeared to be chewing gum. Overall, the front of house presentation was unprofessional.
When I was eventually called in by the doctor, Mr Jakary ( who, I later discovered, does not feature on the clinic website, he didn't shut the consulation room door, so there was no privacy. He didn't use gloves or wash his hands prior to or after handling my eyelids. His desk was covered with other patient's paperwork, which, had I done so, I could have read. He was very slow at writing up my notes, using 2 fingers on keyboard and making many mistakes. He didn't make it clear that the consulation was over, so I had to ask if I could leave.
Having experienced excellent and professional care for an optic nerve tumour with 6 weeks radiotherapy and follow up appointments for 10 years, with Addenbrookes Hospital and ongoing checks with Cromer Hospital Eye Clinic, we have lots of experience in how clinic care is carried out to a high standard. In addition to this, we are both ex-long standing members of the NHS ourselves.
I will NOT be persuing his onward referral to his ACES Dermatological colleague, as we are appalled by our experiences at ACES Eye Clinc, Fakenham. I will discuss my ongoing care with my GP and Cromer Eye Clinic, due to my concerns about the appearance of the lump on my eye, will have to opt to go privately to mitigate any further .
delays. I also plan to inform Specsavers of the poor service I have received at ACES Fakenham.
The optician referred me for cataract removal(both eyes). Prelim appointment was within a week and first appointment a couple of weeks later.
ACES (Wisbech) team were all professional and informative. On surgery day everything was done to put me (and the others) at ease. The surgeon sat with us and was most reassuring.
The operation was amazing and included all the high tech. Very little discomfort. I am gradually 'seeing the light' and detail. The other eye cataract will be removed at the end of the month.
Thank you! 😊

I went into ACES in Exeter today with my Great Nan for her YAG procedure. The team was very helpful and friendly and made her feel very relaxed. It was a real “first class” experience as my nan put it.
Paul did her surgery and she was very impressed with his bedside manner and how relaxed he made her feel. He explained everything so well and the surgery was over so quickly. We were out within an hour.
Absolutely recommend ACES Exeter to anyone currently on an NHS route.

I just wanted to thank everyone at Aces because i didn't think there was anything wrong with my eyes ... just perhaps a little milky ... : O
Now I've had both eyes done ... and been looking around at home ..... its a modern house with brilliant white utilities ... but this is what I've been seeing all this time ...
everything in the house looked like a mustard/cream colour ... like a heavy smoker's house ... but I don't smoke!
So, just trying to get my head round everything being brilliant white ... it's like someone has snook in and replaced everything in the house!!! oh my!!! My world has changed!!!
Thank you all so much for your kindness and restoring my eyesight to something from the far distant past!
Warm regards from Mrs Booth!
ps: If i could have given 50 stars i would!!!

This was a pre appointment and the nurses Hannah and her blond colleague were very professional and empathetic when I told them of my previous bad experience elsewhere for my first cataract operation which was painful! They reassured me and spoke me step by step with what would happen for my next one! So now have no fear at all! All staff friendly and clinician very professional and kind!

I wasn't impressed with the admin staff at the Cambridge clinic. They didn't appear professional and when I initially arrived for my pre-assessment I was told I was too early even though they asked me to go 30 mins early (which I did). I was sent away for an hour. I then was kept waiting for about 2 hours and overheard a patient being told they were running late. Why didn't anyone have the decency to explain this to me? Overall I wasn't impressed. Before this my appointment had been rearranged a couple of times. Three days before my surgery I was told, again, it had to be changed. I decided to have my surgery elsewhere via a different optician.
