Upper Gauley wouldn't be half te fun without Adventures on the Gorge!

I had an amazing time rafting the Upper Gauley with Adventures on the Gorge and it was amazing! The river guides were highly skilled and super friendly, making a crazy set of rapids an exciting and safe experience. On top of that, the campgrounds at Adventures on the Gorge has something for everyone. Half our group wanted to camp and we got a great site for that. The other half wanted a cabin with heat, shower and bathroom, and they had several choices to choose from. On top of that, AOTG offers several bars and dining options, along with a great swimming pool to hang out after the rafting. I will be back!

First time white water rafting

First time white water rafting. Best time ever! Ask for Derek as your guide. They let you get out of the boat and go down the rapids in some spots. They were all very experienced and professional but knew how to have a good time. Highly recommend Adventures on the Gorge

Story time y'all

Story time y'all. Adventures on the Gorge has been taking care of my family and I for 6 years now and they're amazing. They must wake up each morning and drink liquid excellence or something. So far we have done: Gravity Zips, treetop canopy tour, timber trek, summersville kayaking, new river beginner kayaking, rafting, glad creek hiking, paintball, laser tag, mountain biking, yoga, drinking, eating, and general AWESOMENESS! We've never had a bad time (even when we were there in June and everything was flooded out and rained every day). The food is amazing, especially the Gauley River lunch. Im fat... food good... mmmmmm. The rafting... I can honestly say that although rafting is not necessarily "safe" I have never felt safer on activities, than with AOTG. They're professionals, serious professionals. They go out of their way to make sure EVERYONE is having a great day. On our beginner kayaking trip my 12 year old son and I went, and one guide ended up devoting his whole day to my son, and turned it from a grudge "OK fine! ill go, ugh" day to "OMG dad I had so much fun and Albi was so cool!!!" So seriously, if you're looking for a company to trust with your vacation, look no further, because I'm sure you'll love them like we do!

A dead, rotten tree fell on our tent

I first want to say that the rafting experience was amazing! Our guide was awesome & everyone enjoyed it. The reason for the 2 stars is due to what happened to my family. We were there August 14-16 & live 3 hours away. It was a pretty rainy wknd but the rain did let up Saturday night making it a very nice night to be camping. Myself, husband & daughter were all sleeping in our tent when around 5am we were jolted awake from a tree landing on us, this tree snapped from about 20 ft up & fell directly on our tent. Thankfully my dad was there, I immediately started screaming for him as it was dark & at the time we really had no clue what had even happened. This tree was dead - I have plenty of pics to prove. My daughter was asleep but was knocked completely unconscious, we honestly thought she was dead & I wouldn’t wish that feeling on anyone. we had to shake her continuously until she finally woke up, not knowing where she was, nor what had just happened. Where she was sleeping in the tent the tree hit her on the right side of her head, the bigger part of the tree fell on my husbands leg/knee. I only had minor bruising. Once the ambulances got there my daughter was still pretty out of it, you couldn’t really tell the extent of her damage until we were on the way to the ER. She did not know her name or birthday, she suffered a major concussion with loss of consciousness, shattered her right orbital bone (the bone arnd your eye) plus broke her cheek bone in 3 places. She was transferred to Charleston General Pediatric trauma unit where she had to have immediate surgery. She had 2 tiny plates put in her face & abt 14 screws. She is doing well. This tree also broke my husbands fibia bone in half & completely shattered his knee. ACL was torn, his meniscus & a major lateral tear on the outer part of his knee requiring him to have reconstructive surgery as well. He has been out of work for 2 months already & has been told he will be out 5-7 more months to recover. There were so many other campers there that wknd & many of them heard the tree snap & fall. They say it sounded like a shotgun went off. I am very disappointed that no one from your company has reached out to us, I just don’t see how no one wouldn’t have known abt this accident. The tree was very rotten (I have tons of pics) & thank god we were sleeping on air mattresses or it probably would’ve killed my child or all 3 of us. We are very aware of the risks you take when you go camping, but I feel like as popular as this campground is, there should be constant maintenance on the grounds to ensure things like this do not happen & considering there were several dead/rotten trees in the tent camping area, we do not feel like the grounds have been properly maintained. It was a complete freak accident & maybe y’all didn’t hear about it but I honestly do not see how due to the sirens & all the people who were there camping & who immediately came to help. My daughter is doing amazing & has healed just fine. My husband still has a long road to a full recovery & he will eventually be ok but neither of us will ever be able to forget the image of our daughters body lying there lifeless. Today marks 2 months that this happened. So if you did not know now you do. I also want to mention that Friday night a tree fell & landed on one of your little canvas cabins, I’m pretty sure no one was in there that night & the whole wknd all you could hear at night were limbs & branches breaking off, falling all over the place. Just wanted to make y’all aware of this nightmare we experienced that will be with us forever. Minus the trauma of this horrible accident, our whole family had a great time rafting. Thank you for your time.

Fun experience

My daughter and her best friend went this past Saturday. It was raining but they both loved it. They did have a couple of issues. 1) there was no staff in the concessions stand and they were very thirsty afterwards. 2) There was a potential for eye injury with the zipline gear that could be prevented with a helmet. Communication was excellent and constant. They would definitely do it again.

You guys were great in giving three…

You guys were great in giving three novices their first taste of Whitewater rafting. The introduction, instructions on using the equipment, and things that might be encountered were very helpful. The guide was top notch and gave us what we needed to know about each of the rapids. He told us what needed to be done if we fell out.

We hope to do it again. The whole resort area was impressive. The next time we come we plan on renting a cabin with your company.
