I had an extremely disappointing…

I had an extremely disappointing interview experience with AECOM recently. Despite being a well-known global organization, the conduct of the interviewers fell far short of basic professionalism. One of the managers didn’t even turn on his video, which made the interaction feel impersonal and cold from the start.

Throughout the interview, I was subjected to an intense barrage of back-to-back questions, with no pause or courtesy to allow me to process or respond properly. The tone of questioning was unnecessarily aggressive — as if I were being interrogated for a mistake rather than being evaluated for a potential role. There was no effort made to create a comfortable or respectful environment.

I’ve been in the industry for over 12 years and never faced an interview this mentally draining. I was made to feel so small that I lost confidence mid-way and couldn’t articulate my thoughts properly. The entire session left me emotionally distressed.

Moreover, even the HR representative I interacted with showed little professionalism or empathy. For a Fortune 500 company, this level of candidate experience is completely unacceptable.

Based on this, I’ve decided not to pursue any opportunity with AECOM in the future and will be advising my peers to be cautious as well. A company’s culture reflects in its people — and if this is how potential hires are treated, I worry about what the internal work environment might be like.
