IF you need legal help from small claims but can’t hire a lawyer

It is not in my DNA to be succinct but I will try to be in this, and my deepest apologies, if I am not. First you do NOT have to be a resident of Canada to hire him although he only works in Canadian courts but he CAN represent US citizens for cases in Canada.

I would highly recommend Troy as there are not many cases that you can hire a lawyer for small claims as the whole point is not to have to hire a lawyer but the number one reason is if you do need a rep which he can do as a paralegal, is he CAN represent you and he is a damn good litigator, he had a client who was sued by a contractor who ran off with the client’s deposit before he finished the work and had the audacity to sue him for the rest of the money owed but the court not only found the client not liable but refunded half his money! ( i would be a plaintiff but the person he represented was a person he defended.) You think it would be open and shut but as I found out the hard way if you don’t know your way in court you may lose even if you are in the right.

But most people don’t have extreme cases like that but they don’t want to spend a lot of money but may want someone to file the court papers and represent them in case the other party does not settle (he will try to settle first.) He is highly ethical unlike the only other lawyer in BC who works on small claims (that client complained about that lawyer stretching out the case) as he charges a flat fees upfront which are listed on his website so no worry about billable hours.

What I like about him is his integrity and ethics, sometimes he sees clients suing and the amount isn’t worth his fees and he tries to talk them out of it, he knows people in small claims don’t have a lot of money and unlike “lawyers” he doesn’t want to make money off people’s misery, in small claims as in my case, he is my last resort. The amount owed me is near the top of the amount I can sue for. His fees depending on what you need done are in the hundreds but if you have to go all the way to have him help represent you, it tops out at 2K., much less than regular lawyers. If you win the case, he knows more than you can usually find out with a lot of work, how to collect ANOTHER good reason to hire him.

I had a hard time finding someone to represent me, as I initially was trying to find a lawyer help me as an elder abuse victim but realize this was a debt collection case not one of defraudment and that made all the difference as defraudment for seniors in not personal loans but against corporations, and even so, very few lawyers help you as they are not allowed in small claims and you can not hire a lawyer so you can only do self service options something as a foreigner as a US citizen I didn’t feel comfortable doing. I was getting desperate and maybe I googled instead of relying on unhelpful referrals, small claims by paralegals or something like that and found his company. Had I had the money I would have encouraged him to franchise. We need a service like that, but unfortunately in most places they don’t, so if you think you might need that, contact him and he will not charge for a consultation. However I think it’s listed on his site, if you need legal advice for your specific case instead of hiring him to do your work he will probably charge you.
