Afterplay is shaping up to be a great one-stop shop for retro game emulation. It is actively developed, unlike a lot of other web-based offerings which are "finished," released, and then never touched. The developer, Patrick, is responsive on the app's Discord community for troubleshooting and his constant work to add new features and expand the service makes his passion for the product clear.

The monetization model is fair, given the active development and frequent updates, and the free offering is expanding over time.

The app certainly has growing pains, and it doesn't work perfectly all the time. But the rating is based on my experience with it and the potential I believe it has.

Afterplay.io is like if Apple had an official emulator for iOS. I’ve messed around with trying to sync game libraries and saves manually on PC and android and it can be done but on afterplay it just works seamlessly.

The dev is continually updating afterplay with new features and performance enhancements. Premium unlocks DS, genesis and NES emulators and is totally worth it.

It’s still under development so it may be a work in progress on some features but it still doesn’t change my review of 5 STARS. This is a MUST HAVE for any iOS user.

I’m currently traveling on an extended basis and got the idea to play some classics on-the-go. after some research, I came across afterplay. I only have an iPhone, with no access to any other technology (consoles, tablets, PC), so options that don’t require jailbreaking and odd workarounds are highly limited. Upon downloading (at no cost, mind you), I was immediately impressed with how little setup was required on my part. I’ve been able to play Gameboy Advance and Super Nintendo seamlessly. I was initially inclined to give a 4 rating “room to improve”, but the pace at which changes are being released and receptivity from the development team on the discord convinced me to give a 5 rating. I’m looking forward to future releases, as well as, hopefully, being able to play PlayStation and Saturn on my iPhone. I’m also using the Razer Kishi v2 - and that makes it all the better.

Premium services is a complete scam. Half the premium-only emulation services don't work, load, or just have an unplayable amount of bugs that most emulators have already solved. Support doesn't even answers any of your questions, or just ignores you once you've stumped them. Don't waste your money on their premium service.
