Disappointing content and refund promise not honoured
Unfortunately, my experience with seb.ai has been very disappointing.
I initially purchased the “Complete Vault”. Given the name and positioning, I reasonably expected it to contain the complete offering, only to discover that the Hedge Fund OS had to be purchased separately. In my view, calling this the “Complete Vault” is therefore highly misleading.
I subsequently purchased the Hedge Fund OS as well. The overall structure and organisation are interesting, but the actual investment content is far too superficial for what I expected from the positioning of the product.
For example, the equity section covers only a handful of indicators despite the extensive academic and practitioner literature on hundreds of equity factors and signals. There is very little on constructing institutional long/short portfolios or managing exposures to value, momentum and other style factors. Important areas such as VaR, stress testing, scenario analysis and more advanced risk decomposition are largely absent. I also found the coverage of asset allocation, benchmarking, fixed income and equity portfolio construction far too limited.
In short, I found a nicely organised framework, but not the depth of content I expected from a product presented as a comprehensive hedge-fund operating system.
Most disappointing, however, has been the refund experience. I specifically requested a refund and was initially told that it would be processed, with the explanation that it could not be done immediately because the online store would not allow it. After further exchanges, the refund was subsequently challenged rather than simply processed as I had understood was promised.
Based on my experience, I would therefore be very cautious about relying on the refund promise when purchasing.
I am sharing this review because I wish I had understood both the actual depth of the material and the refund process before buying.
