Ailsa Black trained at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen where she studied Graphic Design and Illustration. Today she works from a seaside studio in the tiny Scottish village of Carsethorn in Dumfries and Galloway. From her studio she observes and captures the daily comings and goings of village life. Today her art appears in galleries and on an extensive and growing range of gift ware available both in the UK and abroad. Ailsa has exhibited at the Royal Glasgow Institute and Paisley Art Institute. In 2017 she was listed as one of 25 top UK influential art brands to watch by a panel of over 200 retailers and business people by Licensing Biz. In 2018 her RSPB Year Planner was voted Best Charity Calendar in the UK Calendar Awards.

I LOVE this artist's work
I LOVE this artist's work! I did first did her jigsaw puzzle 'No Ball Games' and what a joyful experience it was! My partner then bought 'Puffinry', which we hope to do soon. I had to have 'Fluttering Along' because the image is so delightful and we'd both enjoyed the quality of the first one a lot. I've not yet started this puzzle but I did open it and look at all the pieces, which look like the usual high quality cardboard and colours. It does come with a 13x13cm visual reference card, but I find that a full-sized or nearly full-sized poster is what I (and most of my puzzling friends) want to have. So, a bit of disappointment there. The card makes it difficult to see the details of the larger puzzle. Also, the drawstring sack that the puzzle comes in is too narrow/tight for my likes. I'd have preferred a wider storage sack or better yet, a sturdy box which would also hold any poster included (and also hold the puzzle pieces in the protective bag!). So, while it's obviously a quality puzzle and I know I'll enjoy doing it, I give it 4 stars because of the storage issue and too-small reference card.

Bright, heart warming 1st painting purchase!
I have previously purchased Ailsa’s gorgeous bright greetings cards and been very happy with them. Along with my card order this month, I have also bought my first watercolour painting by Ailsa! ‘A round of robins’ is a delightful and cheery colourful painting which is just the job after an awful 2020 and what seems like a long winter. I chose this pen and ink painting in a double mount and will choose my own frame after I have decided where to hang it. Over the moon with this gorgeous painting, Ailsa is a very talented artist!
